AIBU to want a 2nd pushchair?

When I was pregnant I suffered horribly from hg and in a bit of hormonal, exhausted madness I ordered a pram on the internet without looking at any features or comparing with other brands or anything, I bought a cossatto giggle 2 because I liked the pattern - it cost about £700 including the infant carrier.

I’ve been using it for about a year now and it’s ok, but it’s not great. I keep looking at other people’s pushchairs with bigger baskets, hoods that come right down to keep the sun off the baby, off road wheels and that fold up much smaller.

I’ve only got a smallish car and we live quite rurally so something that folded up smaller would be ideal, I’ve been looking at the mountain buggy urban jungle or the mamas and papas armadillo sport, has anyone got either of these and is it worth buying a new one or should I just keep going with the cossatto?

Buy the new one. I hated my first pram but struggled on. Bought a new on I loved for number 2 as needed a double. Got exactly what I wanted rather than the cheapest oh could find. I love the pram and even offer to babysit just so I can use the pram again. Sad but true. Smile

Kittykatmacbill · 28/04/2018 17:42

If your babies a year, I would just get a malaren.

Happygummibear · 28/04/2018 17:56

We have the giggle 2. Both me and my DH liked it (I still do dd is 8 months) all.my DH does now is complain it's too big for the boot.

We were fortunate to get a quinny buzz xtra for free which is alot smaller so great when we just need a push chair in the boot just in case or if we are going on holiday.

remember it's probably one of the main things you use so you need to be happy with it.

BigPinkBall · 28/04/2018 18:04

I do like it, it’s just not perfect, for example I’m very tall with massive feet and a couple of times I’ve accidentally applied the break whilst crossing the road and I have to take the wheels off to fit it in my boot.

I’ve looked at the umbrella fold buggies but I don’t think they’d be suitable for going on country lanes or lie flat sleeping, and they just look so flimsy, they’d probably be better suited to someone who uses public transport.

Got something smaller, travel systems are generating but when they're out of the first car seat all of a sudden you use them less. Our second was a Quinny Zapp and we used it way more than they big Buzz when we were out and about. It's nice to get your boot back.

Scrowy · 28/04/2018 18:32

Just to throw another one into the mix have you looked at an out n about nipper?

I know lots of farming families with pushchair age kids that have them as they are brilliant over rough ground. They fold up reasonably well but the wheels are quite big (but the front one literally just clips on and off)

BigPinkBall · 28/04/2018 19:17

That’s a good shout scrowy I’ll have to make a trip to a big John Lewis so I can compare them this time rather than rushing in!

We live rurally and have the mountain buggy urban jungle. DD is 2.5 and still uses it now. It’s perfect for fields, woods, beaches etc. We do have a bugaboo bee that is used when we go shopping or somewhere that’s small/on holiday because the mountain buggy is quite large when unfolded.

theblacklist · 28/04/2018 19:23

Love my armadillo xt
Got a good deal on it from M&P shop too. IIRC £200 instead of £300

IAmMotherOfDragons · 28/04/2018 19:28

I bought the silver cross 3d when pregnant. ...mainly because it was in the sale! Loved it while it was a lay down pram but it was just so chunky and heavy and I didn't like it once it was forward facing.
I bought a baby jogger city mini and OMG it was love at first push!!! Other parents would watch in awe at toddler group when I lifted ds out and with one pull of a handle it was folded. The hood was big.it was lighter. The basket was big and had another on the back of the seat. And it lasted all through my 2nd baby too.
And it was fab on rough ground...though think baby jogger do similar ones too with bigger wheels if you needed them x

llangennith · 28/04/2018 19:30

Mothrcare’s own three wheeler buggy is robust, easy to push and the handle is higher than most.

Also Mountain Buggy.
I liked the Nipper but found the handle too low and didn’t feel stable pushing it with two kids in it.

Piffpaffpoff · 28/04/2018 19:31

We had a nipper, I loved it! Took it halfway up mountains in Scotland, beach walks, everywhere. Hopeless on public transport because it’s so long but we ended up buying a totally cheap umbrella fold pushchair (I’m talking really cheap, like £20 out of Tesco) for bus trips and holidays.

We loved our Nipper so much we got a double one for when DC2 came along. And they sell on really well on eBay once you are done with it.

tinytoucan · 28/04/2018 19:34

We had a giggle 2 and ended up buying an umbrella buggy (just a mothercare model) to keep in the boot of the car because it was such a hassle to fold away. We still used it when walking about locally.

DS is 2 now and often walks, so I just get the buggy out if we’re somewhere he’s likely to get tired. It lays quite flat so he’s never had a problem getting to sleep, but the basket is tiny if that’s a problem for you.

llangennith · 28/04/2018 19:34

Maclaren MX3 is another good one.

FowlisWester · 28/04/2018 19:37

Umbrella folds are awful. Get a baby jogger or an oyster zero. Decent prams

NotDrunk · 28/04/2018 19:46

Another vote for the Baby Jogger! I love mine still using it 16 months down the line with my son.

I’ve just bought a double Baby Jogger as expecting baby #2 in a few months and so excited to use it. Recommend +++

GrannyGrissle · 28/04/2018 20:01

Out n about nipper. They are the business.

Yura · 28/04/2018 20:08

Mountainbuggy Swift would be great for you. we have 5 buggies - a Mountainbuggy swift at my parents who have small cars and live rural, so we need a small cross country buggy. A maclaren techno (called the mcsh*t) at parents in lawbecause we hardly ever use it and mother in law likes a hard to push buggy. A babyjogger summit for running. A Quinny zap for on planes as it’s hand luggage sized. And a bugaboo bee as my beloved Main buggy. The Bee is the only on3 we got new, all others are second hand. We don’t drive st all, so all ours are used a lot. The Bee and the swift are thenones i can really recommend.

pinklady90 · 28/04/2018 20:13

I've the armadillo flip xt and I absolutely adore it. I got it in the heritage colour navy with the brown leather handle. I bought the footmuff to go with it too. I'm now expecting another baby so I will need a double so we've opted for the bugaboo donkey. Not the cheapest but I need something with decent wheels where we live and I'm not that tall so side by side suited me better

BlackberryandNettle · 28/04/2018 20:42

Baby jogger has served us well. I'd buy a new one and sell the one you've gone off on social media (your local area groups), you'll probably get atwonor three hundred back.

You could even buy second hand from one of the same sites in fact. Your likely to want a replacement for the one you have gone off, possibly a maclaren or such like as well for holidays etc, and if you get pregnant quickly with a second, you may even need a double!!

BlackberryandNettle · 28/04/2018 20:44

That should say two or three hundred! Is there a local parents page?

BlackberryandNettle · 28/04/2018 20:45

On Facebook?

Madeline18 · 28/04/2018 20:50

Maybe a mountain buggy nano if you want a really solid umbrella pram? We have a bugaboo cameleon which I love or the other one I really liked was the mountain buggy urban jungle.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 28/04/2018 20:54

The last time I brought a pram was 2009 but my Phil and teds vibe was unreal. I could fit it in the back of a polo (double seat taken off).

BigPinkBall · 28/04/2018 21:08

@BlackberryandNettle I thought about trying to sell the old one but it’s not a very popular pattern, I’ve only ever seen 1 other person with it in over a year so I’m not convinced it would sell, but there’s no harm in trying.

There definitely won’t be a 2nd baby after my hg pregnancy so I probably won’t “get my monies worth” so to speak but then on the other hand if this is my only baby I may as well have the buggy I want as I won’t get another chance.

@yura my mouth hit the floor when I read you’ve got 5 buggies!
