To not be in a frenzy about the Royals?

Kate and William, seem like a lovely couple, happy for them their third child is healthy and named. Think she looked nice coming out of the hospital.

Megan and Harry - happy for them.

But I couldn’t really care less. I didn’t care when Kate and William got married. My mum told me what a misery I was but I was in a state of ‘WTF?’ when I saw the absolute FRENZY the country was in.

I will be the same when Harry gets married.

I was not waiting with baited breath for the new baby name or birth.

Am I misery? On my own? I get it’s all a nice event etc etc but to be honest I find air all a bit embarrassing. Watching ‘the masses’ camping out behind their iron fences hoping to catch a glimpse of their ‘betters’, like they are idols we should all be worshipping. Ugh.

I’m not a misery day to day honest 😂

Yeah, its every day now, one or other of them. Is it just the media, or a continued PR exercise? I even find my long forgotten Republican sentiments bubbling under the surface again.

I've told my mum not to keep reading stupid things out to me from the papers about them. But she continues regardless. A "cease and desist order" may be necessary.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 18:28

They have to do a lot of ‘pretending’ I suppose. Not always but most of the time I bet!

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 18:30

My poor dad has vascular / mixed dementia. He reads the paper every day and the other day he remarked ‘ who is this Harry and Meghan I keep reading about?’ Harry isn’t a posh name is it? Bless him.

BattleaxeGalactica · 27/04/2018 18:41

Several at least are not lovely in the slightest. It's in their interests to look the part but more than a few have or have had a hard time covering up their real thoughts on the hoi who fund them.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 18:46

I bet Charles hasnt much time for most normal people. We have to put our own toothpaste on the brush after all.

BattleaxeGalactica · 27/04/2018 18:49

And don't travel with our own personal toilet seats Grin

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 18:50

Ha ha! No - I take my chances with whatever loo seat is around. Still here to tell the tale

biscuitraider · 27/04/2018 18:57

On the news, there was a man who camped outside the Lindo Wing for FIFTEEN DAYS waiting for the royal birth. I mean, if I were his wife I’d have been fucking livid.

If I was his wife i'd have fucking divorced him.....on the grounds of insanity. What a total prat.

mytittifersungtheirsong · 27/04/2018 18:59

I'm actually amazed that Harry and Meaghan's wedding is being televised. He is now sixth in line to the throne yet there is such a huge brouhaha about it. I can see people being excited about the future king and queen and their offspring (I'm personally not but I do get it).

But all the money and security etc on the impending wedding just seems weird to me. Why not just a normal untelevised wedding like the York one will be having.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 18:59

Biscuit / I doubt his married! Why do this though? Why? ( scratches head)

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 19:01

I think that if their mum had lived the ‘frenzy ‘ about Harry’s nuptials May have been much more low key and not on tv etc.

biscuitraider · 27/04/2018 19:06

A lot of people think it's unpatriotic to not love the royal family. It isn't, and you don't have to drape yourself in a union jack camping outside royal palaces to prove it. All it does is make yourself look stupid. I should imagine the royals secretly look down their long noses in disdain and have quite a few choice words to say about them. What suckers they must take us all for.

Wake up royalists, you're being brainwashed. Grin

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 19:11

Biscuit / they do court controversy don’t they? Start a thread abc you get every opinion under the sun! If there was a referendum on them ( royals in or out?) think it would be close! I have friends who adore them and have camped out to see William get married. See a glimpse of someone they don’t know! They get a kick out of it but it baffles me.

Kettlepotblack · 27/04/2018 19:17

Exactly Buscuit. Being British and being a royalist seem to be synonymous. FFS! Its a massive con/PR exercise to keep the peasants in their places! They've been so clever with their PR of William, Kate and Harry - they are just normal enough to feel they are 'one of the people' but just mysterious enough to keep the fascination. Will keep the family going for years to come.

Also annoys me that people say 'they bring a lot of tourists in' - because no tourists ever go to the USA or France do they?

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 19:19

The tourist argument and ‘ not costing us much’ is always rolled out. Do not believe the hype.

biscuitraider · 27/04/2018 20:53

They love to have us believe the "tourist" crap don't they, to justify their obscenely extravagant existence.

ilovesooty · 27/04/2018 21:02

Can you imagine it?
AIBU to be upset that my husband's hobby takes away family time?
What's his hobby?
I can't say as it would out me.
How much time does it take?
Well he's spent the last 15 days coping outside a hospital.
LTB. I wouldn't stand for that in my house! It's not equal parenting.

BattleaxeGalactica · 27/04/2018 21:06

I've had the tourism argument with dh who thinks they are value for money and bring the visitors rolling in.

All I have to say on it is 'Versailles'.

MillieMoon94 · 27/04/2018 21:09

Yeah the tourist element is rubbish, I live in Windsor and it’s a dead town, all coffee shops or boarded up shops, the decline over the last 5 - 10 years has been shocking.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 21:14

That's sad about Windsor.

IAmMatty · 27/04/2018 21:16

I'm glad I live in Scotland, I don't know anybody who gives a flying fuck about the royals. Unfortunately it's still all over the news Confused

MillieMoon94 · 27/04/2018 21:17

@The80sweregreat yes it is, unfortunately the borough doesn’t seem to realise that the majority of residents aren’t actually “rich” and would therefore prefer a mixture of high and low end shops, but as they have a long list of shops that aren’t allowed in this “beautiful market down” then the number of empty shops will probably continue to increase.

The80sweregreat · 27/04/2018 21:20

That's stupid thinking isn't it? I despair.

HermesAndPinot · 27/04/2018 21:24

It’s utterly bizarre to me how so many people continue to adore the royals whilst living in their own level of poverty.

The British RF can pay for themselves, yet the plebs seem to not have an issue keeping them in their supreme levels of privilege.

Wake up people. They couldn’t give a shiny shit about anyone outside their circle.

It’s astonishing that so many care. They do not care. They milk you all. Whilst keeping you in your place.

The sooner the general public wake up to this reality the better for Britain. it’s 2018. Stop worshipping an anachronism.

Runawaycat · 27/04/2018 21:25

I think Charles is the type who can't be bothered with anyone, unless they can talk about heritage runner beans or something.
I have a grudging respect for the Queen, purely because she's stuck it out so bloody long, doing exactly what she was raised to do, and is fairly unapologetic about it. I don't think her role should exist, but credit where credit is due.

Ann and her kids seem OK.

The rest, especially this younger crowd, are just awful. Smug, shiny, patronising and lazy
