To say no to this party invitation

SIL has invited DD (4) and DS (1) to Knowlesly Safari Park for DNiece's birthday. Which is a great park from what I remember visiting from many years ago, BUT - it's 200 miles away from where we all live. SIL included.

This has annoyed me more because SIL recently had a strop about my DD's party, it's after school in a place 1 mile from our house at a farm park. Her DD's School doesn't finish until 15 minutes after the party finishes and is 30 minutes drive away, so she can't really make it. It's a joint party with someone else, at one of those places where you get free entry all day. The reason me and the other Mum decided to do it after school was because we figured we didn't want to take up people's whole Saturdays, and the place shuts at 6pm so no dragging kids out when they can still see their friends playing. SIL tried to persuade me to change to a Saturday but it was already booked.

But now I have to give up a Sunday to do a 400-mile round trip for a 6th birthday party? She is begging and saying no one else can make it so if we don't go then DN will have no guests there. We're not busy that weekend, we just can't be bothered with the time or expense. AIBU?

Blairdrummond is a safari park and has a drive through section. It's really good for a day out. Loads of animals including sea lionshow and falconry displays.

hellsbellsmelons · 27/04/2018 14:40

A quick google and YES, Blair Drummond safari park is a drive through.
Not all of it by the looks of the pics but certainly some of it.
I hope you've said NO in no uncertain terms by now?

hardtoplease · 27/04/2018 14:40

It's a baby rhino at Knowsley isn't it, not a polar bear?

MsMarvel · 27/04/2018 14:55

Blair drummand is surely a lot closer if edinburgh zoo is nearby...?

MsMarvel · 27/04/2018 14:56

Yes blairdrummand is drive through. Then a section at the end whrre you can park up and look at the other smaller animals etc.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 27/04/2018 14:59

Thanks all, I will drop her a text and suggest it!

If you can go to Edinburgh Zoo it only takes me an hour from there at the most to Blair Drummond.

I would not drive 200 miles to any bloody party and back again!

We did a fab party with my friend at Blair Drummond. Adults paid a group rate of about £7 and birthday girl's mum paid for the kids. We had a great day out. We all Car shared too.

HuckfromScandal · 27/04/2018 15:06

I came on to say Blair Drummond
And it has a high adventure playground etc.
There is just no way on gods green earth would I be travelling to Preston from Scotland for a flipping safari park birthday party fri a 6 year old. Madness

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/04/2018 15:13

Blair drummond is fantastic!! It's 4 hours from us but we still go a few times a year!! And camp locally too! Don't miss the birds of prey show outside!

Lifechallenges · 27/04/2018 15:27

Insane ridiculous idea

RideOn · 27/04/2018 15:34

No that is ridiculous, I'd love to go but so much driving on one day!

Iggiattheend · 27/04/2018 16:20

Blair Drummond has a little boat trip too and playground and you can see some animals while walking and others in the car. —quite scary—
Polar bear cub is in the Highland wildlife park.
