wwyd? spa day and bleached swim suit.

Went to a spa day, had a lovely time but when we left we realised our swimwear had been bleached by one of the chemicals in either the pool or steam rooms.

I contacted the spa and they immediately offered to refund the cost of new swimwear, very good of them.

This is my issue, my replacement would be £80 ish, my friends would be £40ish. The spa day was £59 each.

My swimming costume is about 6 years old, but was a seafolly one I bought in the sale, it has worn really, really well and I love it. They still sell it, but only in black (mines grey) and it's £80.

What would you do?

Nicknacky · 26/04/2018 22:20

I’m not getting it, what’s the issue if they are replacing it and they still do the style you like?

MaxPepsi · 26/04/2018 22:22

I don't understand the issue?

Tell them the make of your swimsuit. Show them how much it costs to replace and ask for the money??

MyotherUsernameisaPun · 26/04/2018 22:22

Presumably the spa are offering to return you and your friend to the positions you would have been in if the bleaching hadn't happened so I don't see why it matters that the costumes are worth different amounts?

NapQueen · 26/04/2018 22:22

What do you mean?

You send them the links to the swimsuits you own and need replacing. They will then either purchase new or write a cheque.

FairyCustard · 26/04/2018 22:26

What's the problem? You could just get the black sea folly one??

Wellthisunexpected · 26/04/2018 22:31

Sorry, I was unclear. I feel uncomfortable claiming for more than we paid for the spa day. I'm considering suggesting they just refund the £59 each?

Nicknacky · 26/04/2018 22:33

No, claim for what your costume cost. Don’t be out of pocket!

Boredofthisnow86 · 26/04/2018 22:38

Claim for the cost of the costume bevause thats what was damaged. Not the spa day.

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 26/04/2018 22:40

Chemicals left around that are strong enough to bleach clothing sounds a health hazard. Don't feel bad about asking for the full amount- it may prompt them to be more careful in future and stop someone being hurt. It could have got in your eyes!

MNscum · 26/04/2018 22:40

You’re lucky they’re refunding.

I’ve had two swimsuits including a brand new £79 one ruined at David Lloyd gym and they refused to pay out.....said unless my swimsuit was chlorine resistant on the label they wouldn’t pay.

MNscum · 26/04/2018 22:41

Oh and apparantly they have to use that many chemicals as otherwise they can’t keep the bacteria levels low enough.....that’s what they told me! I don’t use the jacuzzi anymore.

Kezzamo · 26/04/2018 22:42

Are you crazy? I'm sure they are extremely grateful neither of you suffered any skin issues/breathing difficulties etc from their negligence.

Wellthisunexpected · 26/04/2018 22:43

Kezzamo they did also leave an open pot of chemicals (the crystaline type) next to the water fountain. I sniffed them to work out what it was!

NapQueen · 26/04/2018 22:55

They ruined the swimsuits. They replace the swimsuits. Cost is irrelevant.

MumofBoysx2 · 26/04/2018 22:57

I'd be more concerned about being in a pool with chemicals that strong. Normal pools don't bleach costumes. Take it up with them.

NoSquirrels · 26/04/2018 23:04

£80 + £40 = £120
£59 x 2 = £118

It doesn't matter either way, surely? Except that your friend would get more, and you'd get less?

OlennasWimple · 26/04/2018 23:06

Just tell them what your swimsuits will cost to repair and go from there

AnitaLovesVictor · 26/04/2018 23:17

Very good of them. They've offered to reimburse you the cost of your new replacement swimsuits - which is £80. You're quite reasonable to claim this.

They could have offered to reimburse you the cost of the swimsuits that were were ruined, in which case it would be £59.

arethereanyleftatall · 26/04/2018 23:19

It's nice of you to be so considerate op.
So unusually considerate in fact that the first few posters didn't even understand.

I would probably feel the same as you, and would accept a lower offer due to it being six years old.

AnitaLovesVictor · 26/04/2018 23:19

Sorry I'm confused. The cost of the spa was £59.

OP - the compensation they have offered you is because your swimsuits were ruined at their spa. The cost of spa day itself has no bearing on this really.

Buckingfrolicks · 26/04/2018 23:32

Was it a Champneys spa ?

StayingAtTamaras · 26/04/2018 23:33

I would take the refund!

Wellthisunexpected · 27/04/2018 08:17

Olennas they aren't repairable.

arethere that's what I mean, my costume was 6 years old, and yes it has lasted well, but I wear it for a week a year or so. I didn't pay the amount it would cost to replace, and if I needed to replace it for another reaosn I wouldn't spend £88 on a new one.

Bucking no it wasn't. It was an independent.

OP posts:
northbynorthwesty · 27/04/2018 08:20

If you feel uncomfortable with taking £80 then ask for a refund of the spa day (or a credit note for another day). Although when you go to choose a new costume if it is more than £59 you can’t complain and do a AIBU post :)

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 27/04/2018 08:37

They’ve made a serious mistake with the amount of chlorine. As someone else said the chlorine is not meant to be at a level to bleach costumes. It’s lucky it wasn’t your eyes and skin that were injured. Just take the cost of replacement costume.
