Is this a sad way to spend a birthday?

It's my birthday today but am celebrating with family tomorrow. I hadn't bothered to organise anything for tonight because I was supposed to be at a community activity that I'm involved in and had to miss a few meetings recently so didn't want to miss this one as well (no one there knows its my birthday). About twenty minutes ago the meeting was cancelled due to a key person being ill.

So basically my family won't be around until tomorrow and I've no plans for tonight. I don't really want to make a last minute arrangement to meet up with friends (I don't tend to broadcast that it's my birthday). I'd quite like to just have a couple of glasses of wine and watch telly by myself. Does that sound sad? I've never spent my birthday on my own before?

I think it’s fine too. I’ve realised today that my husband’s favourite band are touring near us on my birthday this year. Tickets released this week. He will be going and I wouldn’t stop him. I will have a couple of glasses of wine and a takeaway in front of the tv too!
For my last big birthday I had to spend the evening in church for my daughter’s carol concert. Was delighted especially as went I til about 8.30 pm. Enjoyed some prosecco and takeaway when I got home tho.
Enjoy your birthday xx

It's only sad if there's no cake - get yo'self a delicious birthday cake and enjoy! Happy Birthday xx

YABU! I think as an adult you have to find peace in solitude, or lack of fuss and company even on special days. Itll happen over the years and no sense moping. Plenty of people have a birthday with no cards or presents or company. You're going to get a fuss and a party tomorrow so it's not bad really! I agree please yourself and relax. And Happy Birthday! Sounds brilliant!

I spent my last birthday in a 10pm conference call with our offshore guys and was mortified and touched in equal measure when the entire meeting sang happy birthday to me. That was also brilliant.

Parties are seriously overrated!

Takeaway ordered, wine and chocs bought, now just have to hope there's something decent on the telly.
