Couldn't watch this but looks like it was fun

Mark Zuckerberg has refused three times to answer MPs questions. Will Facebook's CTO Mike Schroepfer have the answers they need? Watch live in parliament now...now..now...

Fundamental disconnect going down. @DamianCollins: voters have "complete lack of protection" voters from highly targeted political ads. Facebook CTO: you can click a button if you don't like ad "& very soon you will have an actual product experience" that is more helpful to you
Did Russian IRA use custom audiences in the United States? Facebook CTO: "I didn't come prepared for that question."
Facebook CTO: "We found £1 worth of spend by the IRA in Brexit." @DamianCollins "That doesn't mean they couldn't have found another way." Facebook CTO: "I can't prove a negative." This is going well.
This session sums up the whole Facebook problem. UK parliament wants to understand the threat to our entire democratic structure. Facebook sends techie-in-chief who talks about details of automated systems. It’s just another sign that Facebook doesn’t get it. [I'd say they're intentionally stalling but defer to Carole's expertise!]
Ooh good question from @JoStevensLabour. Why did you send legal threat to @guardian when you'd previously relied on the organisation to bring the previous breach to light? Facebook: "We were correcting certain facts".
And another good question. @JoStevensLabour "Did you inform the Information Commissioner when you found about Cambridge Analytica having this data in 2015?" Facebook: "We did not."
And another good question. @JoStevensLabour "Did you inform the Information Commissioner when you found about Cambridge Analytica having this data in 2015?" Facebook: "We did not."
Here it comes. When did you find out Kogan's business partner, Joseph Chancellor, actually works for Facebook? "We only found quite recently. We are investigating this now."
A LOT of qs for Facebook here. They didn't even know that @AleksandrBKogan's partner worked for Facebook?? They didn't ask if he still had data? This was this rigorous investigation they undertook after @guardian article...& refused to answer journalists' qs about for 2 years

Facebook CTO just mislead the committee. Facebook would have learned of Chancellor at the latest Nov 2016, not "last year". cc @carolecadwalla @HNSGR*

True. @HNSGR you told them, didn't you?
Brilliant from @julianknight15! "Are you going to apologise to @guardian** for this bullying behaviour? Sending a legal letter to try and shut this story down" Facebook: "It was our understanding that this is normal practice in the UK." !!!
Wow. MPs are now going for it. @julianknight15: "Was sending in your people to Cambridge Analytica's office an attempt to pervert the course of justice?" Which - FYI - is criminal offence.
Phew. @CommonsCMS is scorchio! "Bullying journalists, intimidating academic institutions, impeding legal inquiries...there's a pattern of behaviour. Is Facebook a morality-free zone?" Facebook CTO: "Great things are happening every single day on our products."
Oh look! Well spotted @podehaye. Now confirmed by Facebook in written evidence to parliament. Cambridge Analytica & AIQ = "billing & administrative connections".

Facebook floundering now. @JulieElliottMP: "How many UK Facebook users were targeted by foreign entities in EU ref?" Facebook CTO: "I don't have that analysis" "You must have that info otherwise you would not be complying with UK law. It's illegal for foreign entities to do so."

@podehaye
The facts of #surveillancecapitalism is that there is no escape from the past collection of historical data. The data is there and can harm you in the future. Facebook now has all the data, but its CTO is always tiptoeing, minimizing harm of looking back to his company.

How many companies gathered Facebook friends' data? How many times were people's profiles harvested? Where is that info now?
OMG. Facebook. Just. Doesn't. Get. It. Paul Farrelly,MP: "You're a player in this. Accept it. You're not a neutral platform." Facebook CTO: "We try to offer advice to any customer of ours who wants to use our product better." The whole problem. In one q & a, right here.
