Yeah, I should say, the only reason I didn't find the AIQ performance in the Canadian parliamentary committee shocking was because I had heard so much of the material before.

If the AIQ really have behaved the way Wylie claims (and the evidence certainly supports some of it), IIUC they may have broken the law in Canada. If that's true, trying to brazen it out would be a likely strategy – no matter how much it stretched credulity at times.

It was very reminiscent of Alexander Nix in front of DCMS...

(BTW sloppily formed questions help the witnesses avoid answering: they can give narrow answers without it being obvious they've dodged an important part of the Q.)

(The real skill in answering questions is to give the answer you want and not necessarily the answer to the question that was asked. )

1/ This new Mueller protection bill contains a measure that would require Mueller to report to Congress whenever “any change is made to the specific nature of scope of the investigation.” This could undermine his investigation.
2/ It’s not clear what a “change is made to the specific nature of scope of the investigation” means, but it could give Congress the authority to learn whenever Mueller investigates a new person or crime, even though Rosenstein granted him broad investigative authority.
3/ It’s common for investigators to uncover evidence of additional crimes and individuals as they investigate, but those investigations are secret for good reasons. If Mueller had to tell Congress what he was doing, it could harm the investigation and others.
4/ For example, if Mueller had to report to Congress that he uncovered evidence of fraud by Michael Cohen, he could have been alerted prior to the search warrant and destroyed evidence.
5/ Leaks from Congress could also alert potential witnesses, who might otherwise have been surprised when the FBI came to interview them.
6/ On the flip side, leaks from Congress could reveal that Mueller has evidence implicating someone that ultimately would not turn out to be true. For that reason, leaks from Congress could ultimately harm people who Mueller is investigating. This provision is a bad idea. /end
