to think that there are no good nappies

i've tried every brand of nappies going and always had a problem. i was using asda's for a long time as i found them the best until they started splitting and leaking gel all over the bed in the middle of the night.

i thought i'd have better luck with a big brand so bought pampers. first night last night and it split and leaked in the night. tonight dd has had it on 1 hour and the elastic has snapped round the legs Angry

has anyone had any luck with nappies for night time that can hold a lot of wee or do i just have to do a change every few hours in the night?

Ah wow impressive op! Size 5+ sounds about right then! My Ds is 24lb and in size 4 or 5 depending on brands, and the + should be more absorbent... I hope you get it sorted. I've never heard of nappies splitting before. Try pampers premium?

EnglishRose13 · 22/04/2018 21:22

We are having this problem too. My son is 2 but is really small (still in 9-12 clothes). We've tried size 4 and size 4+, Tesco, Pampers, Superdrug (I think, MIL bought them) and all are leaking, especially at night. He does drink a lot. We are currently trialing Pampers AirPods 4+.

It you find any that work, please let me know!

BikeRunSki · 22/04/2018 21:23

These bamboo nappies are superb. They are costly, but extremely absorbent, I never knew one to leak or split and last happily all night.

HJ40 · 22/04/2018 21:23

Apart from Pampers and Tesco ones, I think the rest of the supermarket ones are all made by the same company anyway (the clue is where they are made, Pampers in Manchester, Tesco in the US)

If they leak, try a bigger size. If the split, phone up and complain and that's not right.

HateSummer · 22/04/2018 21:25

If the sides are leaking and splitting then you need an bigger sized nappy. There’s nothing wrong with going a size up, even if your baby isn’t that weight. I always used Asda nappies for my son who wee’d a lot. I went a size up after advice on here and it worked really well.

jorris · 22/04/2018 21:28

@EnglishRose13 i'm glad it's not just me, i was starting to this dd has acid wee that's ruining nappies!

i'll try the next size up. i have been complaining about the ones that are splitting and have got refunds so that's good at least. the gel is an absolute nightmare to clean up though as it's so wet and sticky Envy hopefully a bigger size will sort it out!

From what you've said, I'd give size 6 pampers pull up nappies a try.

HateSummer · 22/04/2018 21:35

Yeah, the fact that the gel is being saturated with wee shows you need more absorbance. Give the bigger ones a try and see. Some children just wee more. Ds drank loads of water and milk.

jaseyraex · 22/04/2018 21:35

Definitely try a size up. Pampers baby dry have always been good for us in the night, both nappies and pull ups. Never had a leaky nappy yet with my almost 3 year old!

Mammatron · 22/04/2018 21:36

Pampers premium protection (yellow ones) are the only ones I've used that haven't resulted in any night leaks at all (other types of pampers have). Does she wear a vest? I've also found that if the vest is getting a bit tight it can stop the nappy expanding properly and then cause leakage.

Petalflowers · 22/04/2018 21:42

It’s a shame that Huggies don’t exist in the U.K. anymore (I think). They seem to suit babies which didn’t suit pampers.

Years ago, they sold separate nappies for boys and girls.

I sometimes think I should sue nappy companies as the adverts always say they are new and improved with better fit etc. Were the ones my dcs had years ago not fit for purpose then?!

rach01pink · 22/04/2018 21:44

Babies 5 months and wear size 4.

Asda own rubbish
Tesco own rubbish
Pampers excellent
Lidl good
Aldi good
Wilkinson good
Morrison's good
Co op good
Sainsburys good

Never had a nappy break at all

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 22/04/2018 21:46

Sainsburys all the way they are literally the only ones that last out the night from baby to toddler. Pampers are the worst.

PoorYorick · 22/04/2018 21:48

Pampers are the worst. No idea how they cost so much and have such great branding. They are the absolute worst of any I've tried.

Tesco own brand is great.

Mathbat · 22/04/2018 21:50

We had overnight leaks too. Solved the problem by moving to Huggies pull-ups. They do special ones for overnight which are extra absorbent. Waitrose sell them.

Lana1234 · 22/04/2018 21:51

I’ve been surprised at how rubbish pampers have been for my 7mo DS. Thought big brand would be best but not at all. Best ones I’ve tried are aldi and Sainsbury’s own. Currently using Sainsbury’s though and not had a problem at all.

Zanta · 22/04/2018 21:53

Pampers pants are good as they always avoid leaks because of the fit

Argeles · 22/04/2018 21:56

Tesco have been the absolute best for my DC’s.

Waitrose nappies are also good.

Pampers are good, but not worth the extortionate prices.

Lidl were awful! Everything leaked all the time, and I was forever soaking shit out of clothes and linens before hot washes in the washing machine. They may have been cheaper nappies, but the cost in detergent and running the washing machine has more than outweighed any savings. They gave my youngest nappy rash too.

Welshmaenad · 22/04/2018 21:57

I used cloth on both my kids, however have been unable to convince my sister to try it, so she uses spouses. My DN is a heavy wetter and DSis really rates Ocado own brand nappies!

HateSummer · 22/04/2018 21:58

Pampers were shit for all 3 of mine. They gave them nappy rash and leaked. I don’t know how they are a leading brand either. Only their newborn nappies are worth the money, that mesh lining is really good.

JustMarriedBecca · 22/04/2018 21:59

Cripes. My son is 18 months and we've just moved to a size 4. He is dinky mind.
No leaks. Aldi here. Similar 'softness' to pampers but cheaper.
Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons I found felt plastic.

villainousbroodmare · 22/04/2018 21:59

I always change DS as I'm going to bed, otherwise likely to leak. I don't bother moving him or wiping or anything (never dirty, only wet).

TipTopTat · 22/04/2018 21:59

You need to go up a size or two or use the + version. My 11m old little boy (he's massive who am I kidding) is in size 7 nappies now of a night. And 6+ during the day.

Ignore the sizing on the front and go with what takes the flow. They shouldnt be tight enough around the leg to snap at all. The elastic isnt supposed to be tight. It's there to shape the frills which hold in poo blowouts.

n0ne · 22/04/2018 22:01

They're not cheap but I love Naty, never had leaks

Kpo58 · 22/04/2018 22:02

You have made sure that the clothing around the nappy is nice and loose? I have found that if it is not loose enough the nappy cannot fully expand and then leaks.

I also recommend the Waitrose own brand nappies.
