To have my blood boiling in defence of mumsnet

I'm telling you people, I'm mighty pissed off this morning.

What's getting my plus size knickers twisted on such a sunny Sunday morning? Well, to again have mumsnet referenced as some sort of devious place where women (shock horror) are 'allowed' to talk among themselves about stuff related to them with the insinuation it must be stopped.

Sorry for the language, but Fuck Off.

I've used this place for all sorts of brilliant support, from my daughter being bullied at school, step children challenges, menopause angst, to name a few. I've also been part of the transgender debate and have learnt lots, and challenged other views. It's called debate and discussion.

But someone else has said AGAIN how mumsnet is a dangerous place that encourages violence against people? WTF. No, never, doesn't happen.

What is this about? Why the push to close us down? Approaching sponsors to withdraw from mumsnet? FFS. So so angry about this now.

I love this place, it often keeps me sane.

HANDS OFF MUMSNET TOSSERS

Phew, feel a bit better after that.

AUBU? Hmm

MN is all sweetness and light with only civilised debate and no aggressiveness whatsoever. You’re right. I’m wrong if that pleases you.

I didn't say that.

You made this statement: 'Plenty of other things affect half the population but they’re not debated in the same aggressive way.'

I simply asked where is the aggression and you said that a poster writing the words AT ALL in capitals was aggressive.

Then you flounced Grin

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 22/04/2018 13:34

I’d really like to know how these people are classifying transphobia. Because I think that word is being banded around a hell of a lot when it doesn’t apply - and is thus harming both those being accused of it and also the trans community as a whole as the word is losing a lot of its meaning/gravitas.

FannyHertz · 22/04/2018 13:36

It doesn’t have to be aggressive. I’ve only seen a few threads where it got a bit heated but it’s the ones where ‘terf’ was Thrown as a way to try and shut down an argument that the aggressor was losing. As an aside I’ve always wondered why TRA’s fighting for their rights are ‘activists’ yet biological women fighting for theirs are ‘nazis’?

Mumsnet is a way to debate and get both sides across. Taking away our freedom to talk about things which could have a drastic effect on the way we live would be very very wrong.

MsOnesieOrNOT · 22/04/2018 13:37

I'm very sorry but as a traditional LibDem supporter and Remainer, I am now thinking that the Con party is the only party that doesn't swallow the Selfid bollocks and might very well vote accordingly in a few weeks time.

Caribou58 · 22/04/2018 13:37

Women referencing biology to discuss biological matters that affect women does not make them a terf.

Correct. Nor does asking for a definition of 'woman' (which always results in silence or the amusingly circular 'someone who believes they are one'.)

Caribou58 · 22/04/2018 13:41

The notion that transwomen should be able to compete in women's sport will be - if it continues - the end of women in elite sports. The end of it.

I keep asking the question - why are there separate men's and women's events in the first place? Because that's the issue here.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 22/04/2018 13:42

@MsOnesieOrNOT

I know what you mean. Thing is, they were the ones who started it - I think? But then I wonder if that goes in the same box as when the Green Party proposed sweeping reform to copyright. It was the worst idea imaginable and then after about 2 days of professional bodies complaining, they responded with a sheepish "oh well it was just us thinking out loud..."

I wish politicians would do a bit more planning and thinking instead of putting out an idea and then saying "oh no, we haven't considered at all what this means in practice".

TipTopTat · 22/04/2018 13:43

I want to be known as someone that causes a fuss. I want to be known as someone that wont settle for their own rights to pissed on and erroded by a group of individuals who claim their 'penis' is a lady penis therefor they belong and deserve access to women only areas.

The absolute whoppers on the stairwell need to be sectioned, frankly. Especially the brat shouting about her favoured pronouns Hmm (because that fucking matters in life... of course) And they are doing nothing but alienating themselves...

Actually. Maybe we should let them carry on. Because they'll eventually come across the wrong group of women who wont be polite and just film it. Not every woman is a shy or retiring wall flower or intimidated by cowards.

I will also boycott any company who boycotts Mumsnet.

Jaxhog · 22/04/2018 13:46

Mumsnet is the only place where a reasoned debate is taking place. Why on earth is anyone listening to these Transgender activists, who don't speak for most transgender people and just want to shut down ANY discussion that doesn't agree with their misogynist views?

EasterRobin · 22/04/2018 13:47

MsOnesieOrNot I feel your pain as a staunch leftie remainer. My local Tory MP is actually a really decent guy. But.... But.... Tory.

TerfAndSerf · 22/04/2018 14:08

@MsOnesieOrNOT, it was the Conservative Party that put forward amendments to the GRA and uncritically accepted the unsubstantiated 'facts' the Trans lobby fed them in committee.

pigeondujour · 22/04/2018 18:18

Sorry but it's truly ridiculous to say your feminist principles will have you vote for the Tories.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 22/04/2018 18:32

@pigeondujour

I'd like to hear more of your thoughts because I don't know what I'm going to do at the local elections.

tempted to stand outside and wail like a banshee but all the options in my area warrant that approach!

btw I might not reply till tomorrow as I've got friends coming shortly.

pigeondujour · 22/04/2018 18:48

@SpringNowPlease2018 I'm not the best person to ask really because nor do I - I'm also thinking of The Wail. I can't bear the thought of being someone that doesn't vote but I'm not comfortable endorsing anyone at the moment. The Tories are an absolutely never in any circumstances though.
