To expect a cleaner to empty bins.

We have a new cleaner and after she left the bathroom bin and waste paper baskets are still full. Surely this is a normal part of cleaning, to take out the bins?

It should be but did you ask for it to be done?

TidyDancer · 22/04/2018 08:45

I wouldn't expect a cleaner to empty bins I don't think.

Aridane · 22/04/2018 08:46

Yes, absolutely would expect, and without being asked

TidyDancer · 22/04/2018 08:46

Hang on though, is this rubbish your cleaner has generated while they've been cleaning? If so that changes my opinion.

peachypetite · 22/04/2018 08:46

Just ask her to do it next time. She's new, you're both finding your feet.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 22/04/2018 08:51

I actually find it annoying when my cleaner empties the bins - she comes the day after bin day so there’s barely anything in there, then puts all the wrong things in the recycling bags and puts them outside, half empty and not tied up so the rubbish blows around the garden! I now tell her to leave them and empty them myself the day before bin day rather than have rubbish sitting around in the garden all week.

trojanpony · 22/04/2018 10:14

This.
All my cleaners have done this without being asked

WatchoutDSisdriving · 22/04/2018 10:16

Mine empties bins.

Just ask her to do it next time. There is always a period of adjustment with a new cleaner and matching up what you want doing with her standard list. As long as you are both clear with each other these things get ironed out pretty quickly.

notsohippychick · 22/04/2018 10:19

I wouldn’t expect her to empty my bathroom bin. That’s gross and not part of her job.

WeAllHaveWings · 22/04/2018 10:19

If she worked the full time booked and left my bathroom etc sparkling clean I wouldn't mind the two minutes it takes to empty a bin. Maybe she just forgot?

RosieWoodCelt · 22/04/2018 10:24

I think it is part of their job. They are paid to clean and deliver that service. They should be grateful to work and earn. Would tell them politely but if not done just get rid.

DanglyEarOrnaments · 22/04/2018 10:35

We are a mid-sized cleaning service and we do offer this service as part of our standard regular cleans but, at the same time, I have met a few sole cleaners/cleaning service owners who do not offer this service.

It all depends upon what that individual service does include and whether this service level they offer is one that meets you requirements. If not then another service may provide a better match.

In this case, if nothing has been said about not providing bin emptying then she may have forgotten, just due to human error on that occasion. i would just ask 'is emptying bins a part of your service, because I would like that done if at all possible'. If she says "Oh sorry no it isn;t something I include' then you may have to change service providers.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 22/04/2018 10:40

Cleaner here :
Bins def emptied!!

TidyDancer · 22/04/2018 10:48

@RosieWoodCelt "They should be grateful to work and earn." Hmm could you explain what relevance that has here? Should cleaners be more grateful than other workers to the point where that needs highlighting?

ourkidmolly · 22/04/2018 10:59

It's not particularly grim is it? I mean if you're cleaning loos that's surely the worst job. Don't think bin emptying is pretty standard.

jkl0311 · 22/04/2018 11:25

They are cleaners not management level, leave a list for your cleaner of exactly what needs to be done in her time, or you won't get the most out of her.

RosieWoodCelt · 22/04/2018 15:24

Agree with you @jkl0311 Cleaners are what they are - hired hands to do as told. Ten a penny. Easy to replace.

Pengggwn · 22/04/2018 15:34

They should be grateful to work and earn.

Yessum.

melj1213 · 22/04/2018 15:51

I think, if she is a new cleaner, it is just a miscommunication of her "standard services" and your expectation of "standard services". Neither of you are wrong, you just need to ask her to do the bins next time and if she doesn't do that as standard then that is her opportunity to say so.

I used to have a cleaner when I lived in Spain and she would empty the bins. However, that was only because we lived in an apartment building with a rubbish chute down to the communal bins (that the building manager would put out for the nightly bin collections) so she literally just dropped that day's bag in the chute on the way out of the door when she finished, the same way we did on days she didn't work. We had a seperate bin for recycling as it needed to be sorted and taken to the recycling boxes on our street so she knew to leave that one as I would take it out on the way to work every couple of days.

If I had a cleaner now I would not expect them to be automatically emptying the bins as we only have a weekly bin collection and the recycling is fortnightly so it would be a bigger job.

user1487194234 · 22/04/2018 15:55

I normally empty the bins the night before my cleaner comes
But if I don't because I am working late the cleaner does empty them and I would expect that
I always empty bin in teenage daughters 'bathroom as they can be gross

scaryteacher · 22/04/2018 15:57

I told mine to stop once we moved, as the recycling rules are different, so it is easier for me to do it and get it right. I don't then get the red hand of shame ( a sticker in the shape of a red hand) showing my recycling skills are less than exemplary!

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 22/04/2018 15:59

They should be grateful to work and earn.

Stands for all jobs surely?

sarcasmisnotthelowestformofwit · 22/04/2018 16:01

Mine does. All the bins. Has never had to be asked.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 22/04/2018 16:01

hired hands to do as told. Ten a penny. Easy to replace.

😂😂😂

I’m turning work away. I do as I like.

Puffycat · 22/04/2018 16:01

Emptying bins is a very basic thing, I would definitely expect my cleaner to do it.
Ask her to next time, if she looks shocked or surprised,
Get another cleaner!
