Losing weight

Superlovefuzz · 21/04/2018 02:54

I’m finally losing weight, 26 stone down to 23 so far. BMI out of the super morbidly obese and into the morbidly obese category. Seems a queer thing to celebrate but it’s a step in the right direction. My hormones are going fucking wild. 2 week long heavy period, extreme mood swings. AIBU to be shocked at my body’s reaction? Any similar experiences?

Don't be shocked. Obesity is like a dumpster fire that is destroying your body, and it is going to take a significant amount of time for your levels to normalize. Don't give up because you've already made wonderful progress. You should be proud of yourself.

Superlovefuzz · 21/04/2018 03:09

It makes me sit back and think, wow my body has been under so much strain, it’s all flooding out now. It’s eye opening physically. The hormonal side I did not expect

Wow, well done!

Pleasegodgotosleep · 21/04/2018 04:27

Well done!!

MissCherryCakeyBun · 21/04/2018 04:44

Bloody fabulous.... you should be very very proud of yourself.

Hormone wise I lost 5 stone in under a year about 15 years ago and suffered similar period issues I was told by my Dr as your body stores excess hormones in body fat so you get a drop as you loose weight

If your concerned and feel unwell why not pop and see the nurse practitioner at your GP's

I know you are being encouraging, but 'dumpster fire'??? Geez, man....

JudasPriestley · 21/04/2018 05:01

Well done OP. You're doing a wonderful thing and your body loves you for it. I've recently lost a fair amount of weight and have been fascinated to discover my 'real' body underneath - seeing and experiencing those weird physical changes has kept me going. I never really knew what 'listen to your body ' meant, but now I get it.

Good luck Flowers

L1lacw1ne · 21/04/2018 05:31

That's amazing OP.
It's not a step, it's a leap in the right direction. Got to say I'm thrilled just reading this - well done & I'm cheering you on (6 stones to go here!).

Superlovefuzz · 21/04/2018 11:43

Thanks all

When you lose fat quickly it frees up hormones that result in bleeding - looks like a period. But go see your doctor if you are worried.

ScreamingValenta · 21/04/2018 12:06

Congratulations! Here's to your next milestone!

QueenofSerene · 21/04/2018 12:11

Congrats on your achievements so far. I can totally relate as about 3-4yrs ago I went from about 22st down to 11st and it takes its toll on your body. It’s almost like your body goes into various states of “shock” - like when you see on crap like “the biggest loser” how they make people hike with sandbags on their backs related to the amount of weight they’ve lost and it’s kind of like “how did I carry this around on my body for so many years”.

Speak to your GP just for monitoring to make sure it doesn’t have any adverse effects on things like your thyroid, blood pressure etc. I found when I lost a lot of weight my liver started to go haywire and I developed gallstones which made me quite unwell.

SaucyJane · 21/04/2018 12:12

Yep that's really normal. I lost weight v quickly with lighter life a few years ago, and it caused all sorts of mid cycle spotting and heavier periods. Dr said it was because fat cells contain oestrogen which gets released as you lose the fat.

SaucyJane · 21/04/2018 12:12

Well done!!!!!

GoldenBlue · 21/04/2018 12:26

Yup me too, I had chaotic periods and migraines whilst losing my weight. It has stopped now I'm maintaining.

Well done you are doing brilliantly, don't let this discourage you x

Superlovefuzz · 21/04/2018 17:45

Reassuring to hear of others losing significant weight. I’ll definitely stick with it, have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Losing weight is the only thing I can do to fix it.

Well done and good luck with continuing weight loss!

abundantlyclear · 21/04/2018 17:55

Well done - it's amazing and you must bebe working so hard! Best of luck with the rest of your journey - you are doing a great job Star

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 21/04/2018 18:03

Yay for you OP Grin

The body is a funny old thing and be prepared for more strange happenings

When you change habits after so many years - there is going to be some reaction

Could be period
Could be sleep
Could be head aches
Could be bloating

Be ready and keep going

What’s the eventual target ? And are you saving the money you usually spend so you can treat yourself ?

IveGotaBigPig · 21/04/2018 18:06

No real advice here but I'm in the process of losing weight myself (35lbs down here!) and it is so so hard and takes such a sustained period of motivation, I just wanted to say a massive congratulations for doing so well. You're doing a brilliant thing for yourself in so many ways. Do make sure to find your new favourite body parts as you slim down- they appear in weird places and at strange times (I found a couple of new hollows in my neck a week or so ago- never thought I had a particularly fat neck!) and will help you keep going as it gets more difficult.

You're doing brilliantly Halo I wish you all the luck and strength in the world

ScaredPAD · 21/04/2018 18:06

Well done all of you losing lots. I need to lose lots for health issues too and I'm terrified now. How did you all do it? I've failed every time before and ended up bigger but I really HAVE to now and I'm scared.

kitkatsky · 21/04/2018 18:11

This is wonderful OP. I'm at the beginning of my weight loss journey and need to lose 4 stone so it's fab to see that it can be done. I'm sorry you're suffering at the moment tho. Hopefully you'll pick up super soon x

Treaclepie19 · 21/04/2018 18:51

Well done!
