To ask about prison?

Hello everyone.. Just started watching orange is the new black... Me and my husband love it!!!

I've always been pretty fascinated by prison whenever I come into contact with anyone who has been inside I'm immediately interested and always ask what was it like? My own mum was born in Holloway in the 70s as my nan was in there for a string of petty crime.

So my question is have any of you ever been to prison? What did you do? And what was it like?

I know this is a weird question but it's a genuine post. I told my husband the other day that doing time is on my bucket list he thought I was crazy and he is probably right. I think its because prison hasn't changed much in the last 50 years and i am always really interested in anything that has remained the same. I remeber when i started high school it was the same school my dad had attended 25 years before it was the same apart from a few licks of paint he once came to a parents evening and he was pointing to classrooms and certian areas in the corridors and telling stories about his school days i thought it was amazing.

ps Custody Visitors are members of the public who volunteer to carry out spot checks of police custody suites and speak to those in custody, ensuring they are being properly treated. I used to do one visit per month

GirlsBlouse17 · 22/04/2018 15:45

What do you plan to do to get into prison OP?!

The actual Piper from OITNB has dedicated her life to prison reform. That tells you all you need to know about prison.

Grin Everyone knows that sadistic brutal serial killers have a large very soft side to them that only a woman who loves them can see. 😁😁

The word "large" just appeared there....I didn't type it. 😒

As a former prisoner, I can tell you as mamy others have, it's not as depicted TV.

If you want to read how it is in real life, go to the Crime section and read the "What to take to prison' thread. It's about a mother whose daughter went to prison and the journey from the mums point of view.

There's a fascination with women in prison from society. Obviously as your grandmother was in prison, perhaps look back at your history and take it from there.

As for doing time, I wouldn't recommend it.

If you've not seen you need to watch PCBH
Prisoner Cell Block H. You'll love it. The acting is a bit shit, but The story lines are good. It's like a bleeding holiday camp though. Youll wanna book yourself a fortnights break in there. Grin
It's avaliable on YouTube.

I visit prison regularly as a defence agent. Not much fun and even less so for those I visit. Some people DO prefer prison however as they can't cope with outside life. Many try to get convicted of silly offences around Christmas because they know they'll get 3 meals and a bit of festive cheer. Sad, really.

I've visited cat a and cat c prison as a visitor and let me tell you it's scary.
Even though you know your leaving there's a tiny part of you that thinks what if I'm not.
There's photos, fingerprints, x-ray machines, scanners, pat down, sniffer dogs plus about a dozen doors locked behind you.

I will never step foot in one again.

Being a visitor to prison and being an inmate are really not comparable.
