To dress my baby in babygrow a

A few times in the last few weeks I've had comments that my baby must be 'dressed for bed' or 'has nobody got you dressed yet'. My Dd is only 12 weeks old but I don't plan on changing things soon. I love baby grows and I'm pretty sure they must be the comfiest thing around when your little. I've had her in few outfits (mainly just for a photo and to say to people she's worn their gift) but on the whole she's in babygrows/sleepsuits. I don't suppose I'm being unreasonable but am I being unusual? We've got years of choosing clothes and 'matching' things up ahead of us. What does everyone else do?

DD was in babygros for the first 6 months, then it was summer (and hot) so we moved onto romper suits. Babygros aren't great once they are crawling, but that would have given DD a year to wear them! YADNBU

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 18/04/2018 21:49

Lol I think my son lived in babygrows for most of his first year.

Mississippilessly · 18/04/2018 21:49

I love little outfits for babies. They look so clean and pressed and smart.
When they are in the cupboard.

If I have my way mine will be in babygros until they start school!!!

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 18/04/2018 21:50

Mine were all basically in babygros the first year+, the second two a bit longer (early autumn babies and lateish walkers) than the first (late spring baby and earlier walker).

'Outfits' for tiny babies are odd, especially the mini-adult type.

Sassypants82 · 18/04/2018 21:51

My daughter turned 1 two weeks ago & she is dressed in a babygro 50% of the time. Comfy leggings, socks & tops the rest of the time.

Don't mind anyone commenting.

Praisebe · 18/04/2018 21:52

Babygrows sleepsuits and bibs are all a baby needs in the first few months
Im only planning on buying about 7 in each size they'll need until crawling stage when they can switch to joggers with a vest

londonrach · 18/04/2018 21:52

Dd was in babygrows during the day and night to 4 months. Only in the last three months have i put her in pjs at night instead of babygrows. Shes 20 months now. Got a friend whos one year old still in babygrows. She has one chilled out relaxed baby. Better a baby in a babygrow to a silly none practical outfit

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 18/04/2018 21:53

I love babygrows and kept DS in them for months. They’re so cute, comfy and practical. Besides, the babies have the rest of their lives to wear proper clothes!

NoNoCharlieRascal · 18/04/2018 21:53

Ds lives in baby grows, for a bit we did have to swap in trousers as he is crawling and gets his knees up the legs but soon found that corduroy padders hold the feet in place. They just look so comfy and sweet.

WyfOfBathe · 18/04/2018 21:53

YANBU. DD mainly wore babygrows until about 4-5 months, and it was about 50'50 until she was crawling.

BarryTheKestrel · 18/04/2018 21:53

DD wore sleepsuits for months and a vest and leggings if I was fed of up poppers!
She only really wore outfits to get a wear out of gifts before she outgrew them!

TalkFastThinkSlow · 18/04/2018 21:53

DS was in babygrows until he was about 8 months. We just sent him to nursery in them lol. Then I felt bad cos all the other kids were in proper clothes, so we updated his wardrobe. He's nearly 2 and he wears them overnight and if we're not going anywhere during the day.

AdidasGirl · 18/04/2018 21:54

I dressed my DC in nothing but rompers and sleepsuits for months.

Vexatious · 18/04/2018 21:56

Don't worry OP, MN loves baby grows. They positively wince when they see babies in baby jeans or anything of that sort. They fret that the baby is dreadfully uncomfortable.

silkpyjamasallday · 18/04/2018 21:57

DD was in babygrows almost constantly until she started walking at 11 months, just so much comfier than separates. She only wore proper outfits if it was a special occasion. At 19 months I keep her in T-shirt and leggings most of the time still, and they are also often seen as pjs by people. I just shrugged off comments about her being in pyjamas. Babies, especially tiny ones such as yours, should be comfy and cosy - therefore babygrows are the perfect clothing imo.

DunkandEgg · 18/04/2018 21:57

All of mine have been in babygros or pyjamas or romper suits until well past the year. Sometimes beyond that. Nothing rides up the back, no need to keep buying socks or worry about leggings. So convenient the all in one.
There are plenty of pretty styles to choose from, so you can have 'for best ' just as easily as everyday.

PrawnBhuna · 18/04/2018 21:58

I don’t think yabu to put your baby in sleepsuits for daywear, and I’d never judge anyone I met who did, but I was given a piece of advice that dressing in an outfit helps the baby understand day and night - which when you have a nocturnal baby as I did with DD you’ll try anything you can to get them sleeping at night. So I think babygro for bedtime and leggings/vest type outfit for day as part of routine.

Skinnyboneylittlepony · 18/04/2018 21:58

YANBU

Pikehau · 18/04/2018 21:58

YANBU only took ds2 (10m) out of them at 6m as he started crawling and pulling up. Would have loved more time in them

With ds1 weather got warmer i then just used a vest for my 4/5 month old and some all in one shorties...

Also easy to change!

4GreenApples · 18/04/2018 21:59

All my DC were in babygrows for their first few months.

I think we started moving to “proper” clothes between 3-6 months. Babygrows are great for tiny babies, but I found the poppers get increasingly tricky as babies grow and get more wiggly.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 18/04/2018 22:00

Confused at anybody thinking babygros are pyjamas!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 18/04/2018 22:00

When mine were babies they had some babygrows that were for bed and some that were for being seen in. Perfectly normal.

moita · 18/04/2018 22:00

I think I stopped dressing DS in babygrows when he started getting really wriggly - seperates became easier than dealing with poppers. As long as a baby's comfy, warm and clean - who cares.

Geordiegirl79 · 18/04/2018 22:03

Ah, I completely agree with you, OP. Both of mine were in soft, comfy babygrows for as long as possible! I really think tiny babies in stiff clothing like jeans just look so uncomfortable and in babygrows they can stretch and kick about freely. As you say, years and years of 'proper' outfits ahead! The poppers can be a bit of a pain in the arse though, I will admit.

mirime · 18/04/2018 22:06

YANBU. Babygrows just make life easier. And they tend to wash well and dry fairly quickly which is handy when there's been an a-poo-calypse, a fountain of sick or you've managed to drop some of your dinner on them while trying to eat and breastfeed. Or sometimes all three at once.

When DS was a bit older I had some adorable little sets some of which I'm pretty sure we meant to be pyjamas but he wore them in the day.

I saw a tiny baby once in little jeans with little socks and shoes. All I could think of was how annoying that would be when changing his nappy!
