This is a total non issue, and I guess this is lighthearted, and I know that but I’m eager to see who the MN Jury think is BU.

Dp and I have managed to accumulate a huge collection of bags for life, some I gathered from awesome places like a 14 year old shopper, that is GINORMOUS and came from my first foreign holiday, and another small tote I got when I gave a presentation to a cross party parliamentary commission (one of the things I’m mega proud of!) and some are your run of the mill Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and ASDA.

Dp has been getting increasingly mardy about them and he threw them all in the bin, even the ones I’ve kept for years because of their significance. He also kept four shit ones, whilst throwing my favourite ones away, and feigning ignorance to their whereabouts.
It’s bin day tomorrow and as I was taking the bins out I noticed that my Houses of Parliament and holiday bags were poking out the bin liner, so I brought them inside. Which sent DP mental. I suggested we trade them for the Asda bag under the sink so we still only had the same number. But he has told me I’m being rediculous.

So who is being unreasonable- can you have an emotional attachment to a bag for life? 😂

are you a hoarder? be honest.

TERFragetteCity · 17/04/2018 19:14

Isn't the point that you reuse them until they wear out, not just get chucked out?

I use my old ones to stash used compost in. I even grow things in them. I'd never chuck them out.

MrsLemonadeBrain · 17/04/2018 19:15

alfie Not a hoarder, but I could definitely do with a declutter/spring clean
I just feel like I’ve got no time 😂

I keep our hundreds of bags for life in the car boot. At least they are out of sight.

Snausage · 17/04/2018 19:16

I could have written this. I have a LOT of bags for life and DP is always taking the piss. He does sneakily throw the odd one away but knows not to do that with the more 'special' ones. If he got rid of all my bags I'd probably shit in his shoes.

MrsLemonadeBrain · 17/04/2018 19:17

Thank you TERF
They’re bags FOR LIFE.
Not bags until you decide to throw them away Grin

Also I’ve got a system of folding and storing them in the cupboard that means they take up hardly any room, and are easy to access and DP just screws them up and chucks them in.

MrsLemonadeBrain · 17/04/2018 19:19

@snausage I’m glad I’m not the only one with special bags for life Blush

araiwa · 17/04/2018 19:21

Why do you need more than a few if theyre for life?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 17/04/2018 19:22
Grin

Doesn’t he realise the clue is in the name?? They’re in your lives for life! He’s never getting rid of them. Grin

DairyisClosed · 17/04/2018 19:24

My DP keeps buying these for life bags. We have well over a hundred. I could kill him sometimes.,

MrsLemonadeBrain · 17/04/2018 19:24

Accidental accumulation @araiwa
To be honest i think I’ve ended up with so many is because I’ve remembered I need to take a set of kids books home to mark and have realised I’ll never be able to carry them without a bag so I’ve popped to Sainsbury’s or borrowed one and just kept them Blush

OP posts:
KickAssAngel · 17/04/2018 19:24

So the point of bags for life is that you only buy the amount you need, not loads of them. So YWBU to accumulate so many of them. But he is then BU for throwing them out. Do you actually use them, and never get plastic bags? If so, they will eventually wear out, and at that point you could throw them out, rather than getting another one and therefore adding to the demand for them.

You say it's lighhearted, but my DH (who is not as saintly as he could be) would know better.

Lethaldrizzle · 17/04/2018 19:25

Dh going mental over a bag for life sounds like he's got bigger problems to deal with

MrsLemonadeBrain · 17/04/2018 19:25

@dairy you’re joking
We had a dozen and DP couldn’t cope

OP posts:
RosaRosaRose · 17/04/2018 19:25

Grin I think the point is that you're meant to re-use them until they're ready for the great-bag-for-life-park-in-the-sky. The special ones should be well knackered by now. Or framed or storing stuff.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 17/04/2018 19:26

OP do you have one of these bags to store them in and take them to the shop in?

AIBU or is DP
BrazzleDazzleDay · 17/04/2018 19:26

YAbothBU, it's only shopping bags, but he was unreasonable to chuck out your favourites Grin

I rarely reuse the bags, stash them in a big bag til the cupboards bursting and take them all to the charity shop.

MrsLemonadeBrain · 17/04/2018 19:27

Tbh I was gutted he binned my holiday bag and my Parliament one.
They’re from landmark events in my life. Anc I know they’re only bags but I really like them! 😂😂😂

OP posts:
DontCallMeCharlotte · 17/04/2018 19:28

Well I would keep your sentimental carrier bags in your wardrobe or something as you presumably don't plan on using them and they'll be safe there.

(yes I did just type that out loud)

MrsLemonadeBrain · 17/04/2018 19:28

@zibidoo
I do not. I’ve made a cardboard grid so they all have a place Grin

OP posts:
ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 17/04/2018 19:31

Grin brilliant!

MrsLemonadeBrain · 17/04/2018 19:31

@dontcallmecharlotte
You’ve made me realise how mental I sound

I do use them.
The holiday one is brilliant size for fitting pet food in. (The 12 or 18 can trays) and the other one is about a4 size and thin calico so it folds perfectly to pocket size and I just right for a loaf and some milk!

OP posts:
RosaRosaRose · 17/04/2018 19:35

brazzle does your charity shop recycle them? I've been guilty of always virtuously asking for a bag for life, again and again. Loads of the fuckers. Now (smugly proud) I never leave home without one of those plastic woven, recycled, proper handled jobs. Neatly folded into my handbag. In case I need to pick up a bit of shopping. Had to get a bigger handbag. Weighs on my shoulder.

GrannyGrissle · 17/04/2018 19:36

I understand OP and it is mean of him to chuck your stuff out. Bin afew of his treasured items and plead ignorance.

RosaRosaRose · 17/04/2018 19:42

mrselemonade you are not mental. I have some super size Lidl bags that I got to move me out of a refuge to here! They are majorly special and used to store all kinds, in cupboards. Each season I pull them out, I remember how lucky I am! Go life bags with imprint
