AIBU as pt to request similar to ft colleagues?

I work part time (4 mornings a week) in an office which is open Monday to Friday 9-5. My full time colleagues have just been told the office will close at 4 on Christmas Eve. This might sound stupid but AIBU to request I get to leave earlier as well or is that just my tough luck?

I would say tough luck really

kimlo · 16/04/2018 15:36

though luck, unless they offer.

Situp · 16/04/2018 15:36

If it was a half day maybe, but for the sake of an hour that seems pretty petty.

I'm part time and inevitably miss "extra " time off for bank holidays etc - just tough luck.

Brokenbiscuit · 16/04/2018 15:37

You should be entitled to leave at 4pm with everyone else. If you're scheduled to finish earlier than that, then my feeling is that it's your tough luck tbh. It would be really petty to quibble over the pro rata equivalent of an hour.

shouldprobablysaynothing · 16/04/2018 15:38

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Come on, is this serious?

Brokenbiscuit · 16/04/2018 15:38

What FTE are you?

PinkHeart5914 · 16/04/2018 15:38

It’s just tough luck really.

So you only work the morning but want to leave early becuase your colleague who works full time gets to leave at 4 😂😂 Your Be home well before 4 will you not

Bluelady · 16/04/2018 15:38

Christmas?! It's only April.

Redglitter · 16/04/2018 15:38

I work shifts and we miss out on 2 early closures each week. It's only 9 - 5 Mon to Fri workers who get them

Redglitter · 16/04/2018 15:39
  • each year, not each week 🙄
PinkCalluna · 16/04/2018 15:40

Given how difficult it is to get jobs with hours as part time as yours I think I’d keep very quiet.

The reason people get to leave early in Christmas Eve is so that you can run home to get organised for church/family meals/prep for the next day. You already have afternoons off so don’t need extra time.

Buglife · 16/04/2018 15:40

That makes no sense. They finish early that day because it’s an early closure. You finish earlier anyway because that’s your hours. Are you seriously suggesting you should be allowed to go at 10am or something because they are closing at 4pm?!

BewareOfDragons · 16/04/2018 15:41

I would not be impressed with you at all if you asked to go even earlier.

Brokenbiscuit · 16/04/2018 15:42

Have just seen that you said you work 4 mornings a week, so presume that's less than 0.5FTE. That means you'd be arguing the toss over less than half an hour. Is it really worth it?

TERFousBreakdown · 16/04/2018 15:42

Tough luck, sorry!

It means 'we're closing an hour early - whoever happens to be around needn't stay ' not 'everyone gets an hour off as a Christmas present'.

It's like you don't get to have an extra day off if you're unlucky enough to be ill on a bank holiday (yes, actual staff request; I declined it).

araiwa · 16/04/2018 15:42

As long as you mind people laughing in your face

Springtrolls · 16/04/2018 15:43

That's just how it is when you work part-time. Just like if the management decided to lay on treats in the afternoon, you would miss out.

lindyhopy · 16/04/2018 15:45

tough luck

Hairscarebear · 16/04/2018 15:45

My employer plans well in advance, our staff Christmas night out has already been arranged!

One of my colleagues asked me if I got to leave earlier as well which made me doubt myself. Thank you all for replying.

So you work four mornings a week. 3.5 hours a day = 14 hours per week.

If everyone else is working a 35 hour week, then (as a percentage) their extra hour off becomes equivalent to about 22 minutes for you.

Wanna ask your boss about leaving 22 minutes early "so it's fair"?

Alienspaceship · 16/04/2018 15:47

It’s a good will gesture from the employer. Don’t be ridiculous and ask for an earlier finish - you will look a dick.
If you’re that desperate change your working hours to afternoons instead of mornings. Ta-dah!

SomeKnobend · 16/04/2018 15:48

No, that's tough luck. They get to leave at 4pm xmas eve because it's 4 fucking pm on xmas fucking eve. Get a fucking grip.

RealityHasALiberalBias · 16/04/2018 16:00

They'll all be stuck in traffic for that extra hour anyway.
