To ask what handcream works!?

My hands are horrendously dry and cracked. The skin feels so tight and it’s split on my knuckle. I’ve tried loads (Aldi, Nivea, Neutrogena, Vaseline) and a more expensive Aveda one which worked brilliantly for a while but the magic didn’t seem to last.

Is there a perfect one out there before my hands turn to dust?

Another for O’Keefes

nonevernotever · 14/04/2018 21:14

Highland soap company organic hand and body cream works best for me. And I love the smell of the lemongrass and ginger one

GraceHelen · 14/04/2018 21:20

another vote for Flexitol hand balm. (yes they are famous for their heel balm but honest to god their hand balm is my saviour!) it really is awesome. i've tried everything i could think of, every recommendation for my cracked split skinned dry painful hands and while some work for a tiny while this works well and lasts.
i find its hard to find, only know of boots or amazon that sell it.

CrackingEggs · 14/04/2018 21:21

The thing tgat wicked for me was to stop using liquid hand soap and only use bar soap. It's difficult if tiure out and about but I keep a bar of soap on my desk for hand washing at work.

Avons glycerine hand creme is pretty good. Not a great smell but cheap and works.

megletthesecond · 14/04/2018 21:24

Lush Helping Hands.
Oily and soothing. Really good at night.

SoulToSqueeze · 14/04/2018 21:37

O'Keefes is amazing. I only discovered it within the last month and its done wonders! My hands are sensitive and it doesn't take much for my skin to get very dry and sore and so far Working Hands has been the only thing to help!

whirlygirly · 14/04/2018 21:42

Clarins is the only one I buy. Leaves my hands super soft with no sticky or greasy feel. Worth the money imo. It lasts ages.

JollyGiraffe · 14/04/2018 21:47

Another couple of votes for O'Keeffe's or Body Shop Hemp

brownelephant · 14/04/2018 21:50

'double' creaming mornings and night.
a moisturiser like aveeno or similar followed by niea creme (blue pot) once that has sunk in.
wearing gloves when cold outside and marigolds for cleaning/washing up

blackteasplease · 14/04/2018 21:52

I use doublebase cream on prescription.

Babybearsporij · 14/04/2018 21:52

I have very dry hands and the ones that work for me are:

Palmers coconut oil one www.boots.com/palmers-coconut-oil-formula-coconut-oil-hand-cream-60g-10197514
Good old Atrixo

A couple of curveballs:
Soap and Glory Hand Food - actually really good
Avon Glycerine one www.avon.uk.com/product/306-346-2691/toiletries/hand-cream/avon-care-protecting-glycerine-hand-cream

I also use Oilatum junior cream before bed, which is for eczema really, but it really moisturises my hands.

fiorentina · 14/04/2018 21:53

Aveeno hand cream for me. Or Body Shop hemp hand cream used to, not sure it is still available.

whensitmyturn · 14/04/2018 21:53

Body shop hemp cream it's brilliant. I tried loads before finding this one! X

whensitmyturn · 14/04/2018 21:54

Sorry about the kiss ShockConfused

flowerslemonade · 14/04/2018 21:56

If you wash up by hand make sure you use washing up gloves (and not thin cheap ones).

Wear gloves outside (maybe not as applicable now).

Soap - wool fat soap

Hand cream - I like nivea soft in the tube or avon glycerine hand cream.

Drink lots of plain water.

Allice · 14/04/2018 21:56

Just before I go to sleep I put a big squirt of Soap and Glory Heel Genius on my hands, it's really greasy and makes my hands much softer. Much better than most hand creams imo

sycamore54321 · 14/04/2018 21:57

Another vote for stop using liquid soap of any kind, and antibacterial gel only if absolutely necessary. Switch back to traditional bar soaps and I almost guarantee an improvement.

Sudocrene and aquaphor as already mentioned work for me

Lucisky · 14/04/2018 21:57

Yet another vote for the body shop hemp hand cream.

Shizzlestix · 14/04/2018 21:58

O’keeffes or anything else containing urea. Heals up cracks.

Tiredtomybones · 14/04/2018 21:59

Garnier Intensive 7 Days Smoothing Hand Cream. It's the business!

Wolfiefan · 14/04/2018 22:00

@dayswithaY never use aqueous cream as anything other than a soap substitute. It's an irritant of left on the skin.
Gloves in a bottle is a good protector.
Lidl Cien SOS Hand concentrate is excellent.

SleightOfMind · 14/04/2018 22:01

Bit of cracked heel (foot) cream before bed has worked wonders for me.
I also use it after my hands have been in water during the day but it is greasy so just a dab.

MonkeyPoke · 14/04/2018 22:02

O'Keffe's Working Hands.

This^

Hands and feet, my dry horrible feet have become flip flop ready in no time at all, so much so I'm not going to bother with a footner just yet!

AnnieOH1 · 14/04/2018 22:06

O'Keefe's by a country mile.

Bunnyjo · 14/04/2018 22:06

Aveeno is good as is the Hemp one from Body Shop. For me the best one I've found is Skin Food from Weleda; it is absolutely amazing. I haven't tried O'Keeffe's, but that appears to be very popular.
