Oh crap.

OP posts:
AllNamesTakenhell · 14/04/2018 08:50

Im against chemical weapons but as someone said above these misdles are big empty gestures to just incite more violence. If they want to do something about syria they should stop the double dealing and backhanding of the wests weapons sales which fuel these bloody terrorists.

So called grand gestures do nothing to solve the actual issue or make things safer for the people

Ickyockycocky · 14/04/2018 08:50

FFS, it’s all very worrying. Take the piss all you want but the whole situation is awful.

worridmum · 14/04/2018 09:04

Basically all the rebels need to do now is get some basic chemicals and stage attacks like this last attack most likely was. It was days away from collaspe why risk western intervention.

Look at what each side gains from using chemical weapons.

Assad will lose the war if he uses them (he is already winning btw)

Rebels will get what they want if chemical weapons are used (regime change).

Who is most likely to use it?

Joanna57 · 14/04/2018 09:04

Assad is fighting ISIS.

We are fighting Assad.

Yep, makes perfect sense.

The 'chemical' attack was a false flag. It did not happen.

Fustyoldcarcass · 14/04/2018 09:06

Agree with Cobblers A handful of people have been involved in this decision. I thought we were supposed to live in a democracy? I think she is forgetting that she WORKS FOR US and it's quite scary that, whether you agree with the air strikes or not, that people are happy for decisions to be made like this?

This is more about Russia's involvement than Syria. We've had years to intervene and have done nothing.

If this turns in to something greater how many people will die then? What is the long term plan with this? Our track record of intervening internationally in recent years to bring about peace is pretty shit isn't it?

Cobblersandhogwash · 14/04/2018 09:13

The Chinese back Russia.

And where the feck is all the money coming from for these bombings?

Tantrumschmantrum · 14/04/2018 09:13

I don't think it right that one country has the right to veto the UN. Surely it should be majority vote?

LifeBeginsAtGin · 14/04/2018 09:15

If your child had been hit with chemical weapons wouldn't you want someone to help?

AllNamesTakenhell · 14/04/2018 09:20

No gin, i would want revenge. These misdles dont help. They arent protection, aid or safety. I would be even more worried.

Cobblersandhogwash · 14/04/2018 09:20

Of course I'd want someone to help. Also if they had been bombed to shit as well. Why now? To claim it's all about saving the children is utter nonsense.

This is a sensible article on the debacle that is Syria.

Tantrumschmantrum · 14/04/2018 09:21

Yes, but I would want all the evidence to be verified and correct before a retaliation and wouldn't want that retaliation to lead to a far worse, far wider war which now seems likely.

turnipfarmers · 14/04/2018 09:30

@Cobblersandhogwash Very apt user name!

And where the feck is all the money coming from for these bombings?

Why, the magic money tree of course? Didn't you know? Wink

My inner cynic must be rubbing her hands in glee about having been let loose today.

turnipfarmers · 14/04/2018 09:32

@Pancakebum

This kind of thing has happened before and led to nothing. I'm not hugely worried.

I don't think WW2 was nothing..Hitler gassed citizens of Germany and look what happened then?

spanky2 · 14/04/2018 09:36

How have the government got the money for this when there isn't enough money for the NHS or benefits?

Jannilost · 14/04/2018 09:36

May Has every right and power to launch military action. Yes we live in a democracy, but she has certain executive powers. What do you expect her to do, sit by and watch people get gassed?
We don't know the full picture as surprisingly we don't have security clearance for that, so instead of armchair commanding, why don't we praise the professional troops for the good work carried out today.

Jannilost · 14/04/2018 09:39

There is something called the defence budget. Let's break it down shall we...
Each force gets a certain amount of money to spend on them.
ALL of them stockpile ammunition and buy ammunition with the money they're given.
They get told to do It, so use their supplies Shock.
May hasn't chucked money at them to do This, they already had everything they needed, it didn't cost us anymore money.

Butterymuffin · 14/04/2018 09:40

I'm no fan of May and her government at all, but we do live in a democracy and it's frankly insulting to places like Syria to say that we don't. The electoral system is set up for our democratically elected representatives to make these decisions, and for some of the gravest ones to be debated and voted on in Parliament. The public don't get to individually approve everything and quite right too.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/04/2018 09:40

‘How have the government got the money for this when there isn't enough money for the NHS or benefits?’

Whataboutery at its finest...

CallarMorvern · 14/04/2018 09:42

Interesting read about why this isn't the best course of action...

mimibunz · 14/04/2018 09:43

I support the strike. Assad is a nasty shit.

Heyduggeesflipflop · 14/04/2018 09:44

Callar - do you get all your best links from Russia today...?

Jannilost · 14/04/2018 09:45

As previous poster said, we elected May, democratically to make these decisions.

Cobblersandhogwash · 14/04/2018 09:47

Without Parliamentary scrutiny? To make sure we are making the right decision?

Cobblersandhogwash · 14/04/2018 09:49

Jannilost, if you think May gives an actual fig about the people of Syria and their cruel predicament, then you are crackers. These people have been bombed, gunned down etc. And now they've been gassed, May actually cares? 😂
