To think that if you request a prescription from the surgery

Then don't email it to a pharmacy without your permission. Especially when you've put (in black and white) on the request 'pick up at surgery'.
I would post in legal but I do think that sharing this information with a pharmacy that I don't want to use is, 'Off'/ bad practice/ illegal?
Any ideas?

I don't understand how this could have happened. Why would they send it to a random pharmacy? I also don't understand where you put the note that you wanted to pick it up at the surgery.

SilverHawk · 13/04/2018 21:28

Our GPs allow you to request the prescription on line. Within that request is the place to pick up said prescription.

Why indeed would they send it to a random pharmacy?

Why indeed would they send it to a random pharmacy?

Because people are human and make mistakes sometimes?

SidekickSally · 13/04/2018 21:30

We have the option at our practice to request prescription sent to the local pharmacy or pick up from the surgery itself. Could it have been an error on the surgery's part? Have you asked them how this happened?

SilverHawk · 13/04/2018 21:31

Not good enough.
Especially for medical issues.

OP,
Because some one is crap at their job.

CuntPuffin · 13/04/2018 21:34

Human error.
Most practices can have them sent to the nearest pharmacy, so that you can just go there to collect the medication rather than go to the surgery for the piece of paper, go to the pharmacy and wait while they prepare it. Mine runs a text service to let you know it has been done so I can go and get it.

Is there a particular issue with using the direct to pharmacy service?

Aethelfleda · 13/04/2018 21:34

I supect your records have a “nominated” pharmacy linked to them: if I ask for a repeat prescription at my GPs, it is sent by an electronic system to the pharmacy I usually use as it’s right by my house. The doctors surgery did ask if I wanted this linking though, they didn’t just do it.
Maybe you could go back to the GPs and I expect reception can check your record and remove the link if there is one on there?

SilverHawk · 13/04/2018 21:34

It's in black and white on the prescription request that it is 'pick up at surgery'.
Didn't get a chance, confused until I got home.

nerversaynever · 13/04/2018 21:34

Is there some particular reason why you don’t want the prescription to go to that pharmacy?

Have you requested that your prescriptions are sent there ever in the past? It may have been set as a default in the notes if this is the case. A lot of patients prefer to go straight to the pharmacy rather to the surgery and then the pharmacy.!

SilverHawk · 13/04/2018 21:35

Never had a nominated pharmacy.

OP posts:
EveningHare · 13/04/2018 21:35

Why wouldn't you want it sent to a pharmacy? How else will you get the medication?

ginger987 · 13/04/2018 21:36

You must havr given consent for it to go to that chemist previously though? Once you sign up for elecontic prescriptions, it does it automstically when the prescription is authorised. If you ordered online the message may not have been seen. If you want to remove a chemist you need to speak to someone about doing so, either at the pharmacy or the surgery

Raven88 · 13/04/2018 21:37

Maybe it got put in the wrong pile and a tired over worked doctor in charge of signing it off didn't notice because he was in a hurry to start the next surgery and had to meet the deadline for prescriptions getting to people in 48hrs.

Are you able to get to the pharmacy?

Bigpizzalover · 13/04/2018 21:39

We have the option at our surgery too for the prescription to be sent electronically to the pharmacy or for us to collect the paper.

I don’t see what the issue is regarding ‘medical information’ all they will send is the medication required the same as you would take in via paper form?

I would just speak to your surgery and ask for a note to be put on your medical records also requesting prescriptions to be given to you. Not a great service but sometimes errors happen

Louiselouie0890 · 13/04/2018 21:42

Would you not be going to the pharmacy anyway?

SilverHawk · 13/04/2018 21:45

Never given consent for electronic prescriptions.
It's really because the pharmacy nearest the surgery is the hardest to get to and it's much easier to get it made up in town or near work.

JessicaJonesJacket · 13/04/2018 21:48

So you're complaining about it being 'illegal' when actually you meant it was inconvenient.

Passmethecrisps · 13/04/2018 21:51

I can understand this being frustrating and I could also understand upset if there was a known issue with the pharmacy. It sounds like it is more irritating and easily resolved I would think.

Are you suspicious there is some sort of plan between surgery and pharmacy?

Glumglowworm · 13/04/2018 21:52

People make mistakes. I couldn’t really get worked up about this one. I would expect them to put it right, if that meant them reissuing the prescription to you at the surgery and them contacting the pharmacy requesting the one sent in error to be destroyed securely or returned to them/you.

SilverHawk · 13/04/2018 21:55

Passme I did wonder.

OP posts:
nerversaynever · 13/04/2018 21:55

Assuming that you have never had a prescription sent there before which I think is what you are saying, they appear to have made a mistake.

I think your reaction is totally out of proportion to the seriousness of the mistake.

Laurilee · 13/04/2018 21:56

Don't think I could get worked up about this one either. Why is it so detrimental to you that they sent it to a pharmacy? You seem more annoyed that you 'didn't give permission' than the fact that it's not convenient. What exactly do you think is going to happen?

I really struggle to see how this is a real issue. Go and pick up the prescription. If you physically can't for whatever reason, phone the GP and let them know you don't want this to happen in future and to leave a prescription at reception.

Sorted.

SilverHawk · 13/04/2018 21:57

The obvious pharmacy to send prescriptions to ...is the one attached, in the same building!
