Hi all,
So our eldest DS ( 11 this month )
Has been away in residential this week.
We had a phone call this morning to say they him and 3 other boys were found to have been watching games of thrones and skins on one of the other boys tablets on somesort if Netflix based thing.

  • one of the other mums rand me immediately to discuss what steps we should take to complain this happened ( now it was her sons tablet and account )

AIBU to think she should take some responsibility and actually our sons to.
They were watching it at night time so when on their rooms.

Back to a key question. Were they allowed to take tablets and electronic devices on the Residential? Because usually they are banned for precisely this reason. Inappropriate use.

blackteasplease · 13/04/2018 17:05

I'm sure it won't so 11 yo boys any lasting harm tbh!

AliDran · 13/04/2018 17:08

Amazon prime also have GOT although you pay extra for it

Lizzie48 · 13/04/2018 17:10

I agree, she's completely bonkers. The point is that the teachers were doing their job, they caught them watching that programme, and put a stop to it, then informed the parents. They should be thanked not complained about. Hmm

If something isn’t on your Netflix history it doesn’t necessarily mean they haven’t watched it. You can log into your account and delete stuff.

They probably watched game of thrones on an illegal streaming site. Or paid for it on amazon or similar.

I'd be pissed off with her for allowing my kid access to GoT & Skins!

She ay not have known that he had taken his tablet, but he shouldn't have been able to access the programmes that he did imo.

I'd have a talk to my son about peer pressure & watching stuff he shouldn't!.

BewareOfDragons · 13/04/2018 17:18

I'm sadly not surprised that the parent of an 11 year old wants to blame anyone and everything else for her own child's poor choices, which he had to know were poor.

I see it at school daily.

So many parents really, really suck.

You are doing the right thing: thank the group for alerting you and talk to your boy about how disappointed you are that he joined in on poor behaviour. Talk about how he should handle it in future.

Butterymuffin · 13/04/2018 17:22

So at home, does she stay awake 24/7 to make sure that her son doesn't watch anything like this during the night there? That's what she seems to expect of staff on this trip (who'll be up for crazy hours anyway).

TSSDNCOP · 13/04/2018 17:37

Every single club, camp or residential overnighter DS goes on specifically says no electronics; no phones, tablets or game consoles.

The DM in question is skating on very thin ice of her own melting.

You will annoyingly have to talk to your DS about watching the stuff on the tablet, but it ought not to have been there in the first place.

This 100%, I'd be very annoyed.
