I’m nearly 33 and since having my second child (he’s 3) my hormones have been out of whack, with this has come chin hair, it’s white blonde so i know it could be worse, would probably look like a beard if it was dark! Do you have chin hair? Is this normal for my age? Does anyone was their chin hair or will that pull at my skin too much and make me “jowly?” Would it make it grow back worse? Thanks

I had a few that were so bad I bought an electrolysis kit from Ebay. you have to do it 4 to 6 times, it feel a bit tingly but its not unbearable.

Alpacinoshoohaa · 12/04/2018 14:31

Upstart did it work!

ClipClops · 12/04/2018 14:42

I have an Emjoi Compact Epilator. Had it for over 3 years now and can't imagine life without it. Give my chin and peach fuzz a quick run over and done. Was really cheap too.

This is it www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00008SJXL/?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Says out of stock but I'm sure you could find it elsewhere.

Katedotness1963 · 12/04/2018 15:00

PCOS, peach fuzz cheeks, chin hairs and a mustache that beats my teenaged sons efforts. Hair in the boobs, belly, and pubic hair that's halfway to my knees, hairy toes.

Every time trolls are mentioned on here I wonder how they hell they can see me. Fecking hormones...Sad

UpstartCrow · 12/04/2018 15:57

@Alpacinoshoohaa
Yes it does, it uses needles so its a bit finicky. I whip it out when new ones sprout Grin

Janel85 · 12/04/2018 15:58

Has anyone tried NoNo?

They’re crap, don’t waste your money. And especially don’t be swayed by the cheap counterfeit ones (sub £100) on amazon and eBay.

Janel85 · 12/04/2018 16:17

As depressing and time consuming as it is, it is very satisfying when you have a battle with a particularly short and bristly one and hen you finally manage to pluck it out ha ha. I think I’m going to get myself an braun facial epilator, reviews on boots aren’t too bad. People who epilatw on the face- did it make them come back thicker? Read someone saying that it stimulates hair follicle growth, but then I can’t see how it’s differenr from
Plucking, having said that this would be grabbing a lot more hairs than I pluck so I don’t want all the tiny tiny peach fuzz to come back thicker or I really will be in trouble!

As soon as I see one sprouting, it's shaved off. They never get to the need plucking stage.

SaucyJane · 12/04/2018 16:23

I've nearly bought a Nono before and then checked the online reviews - it gets slated, sadly.

I think laser removal for dark hair and waxing or similar for blonde hairs is probably the way to go.

I found the epilator shockingly painful. And I have a high pain threshold.

ChuffMuffin · 12/04/2018 16:37

I had exactly the same problem, mainly long white/blonde hairs interspersed with thick jet black hairs. Tried literally everything until I started electrolysis last year. It's not fast, and it's not cheap, but it's made such a difference already. Some hairs just don't grow back now, and the ones that do are definitely on the way out, they're so much finer.

The most surprising thing from having electrolysis was that all my chin acne disappeared, I thought it was hormonal like the chin hair, but turns out it was from me constantly touching my chin and feeling for hairs!

hjublen · 12/04/2018 16:37

I brace myself for the first contact with the epilator, after that it's fine and over in 30 seconds.

Fuckoffunicorn · 12/04/2018 16:40

Why doesn’t IPL work on hormonal hair?

LeighaJ · 12/04/2018 16:40

I get hair in all sorts of weird places since being pregnant, I just pluck or use an electric trimmer. Never had hair come back thicker from those methods nor from shaving or waxing, sounds like old wives nonsense. Grin

GREATAUNT1 · 12/04/2018 16:44

First dose of chemo bought on the meno & I thought I was growing a beard. I went to see the Onco who I imagined would fall about laughing & tell me to stop being ridiculous. He didn’t, he said I could well grow a full beard!!!!! Although it was only fine blonde hair, I did not want it on my face. I tried Nair but it burnt my face, then I got the epilator on it. Now I just use a Bic once a week. It serves me right though for laughing at the elderly with hairs on their chin when I was a kid.

DeltaRomeo · 12/04/2018 16:55

Oh dear, Janel, I am sorry to say it may get worse, I am ten years older than you and what started out as a single chin hair has multiplied lots and now I am in constant fear of growing a goatee. Epistick spring thing is ok but U usually just go at it with tweezers.

Mrstumbletap · 12/04/2018 17:00

The lumea is great but the hairs have to be dark. Thin blonde hairs are the worst!

Ahhh why can’t society let us embrace our hair!

TyneTeas · 13/04/2018 01:09

Another one asking why IPL doesn't work on hormonal hair, as hormonal hair is likelier to be darker which is meant to be more zappable.

Surely people with hormonal hair are particularly going to be looking for options, so if I'll won't help, the IPL info should state that?

helacells · 13/04/2018 04:31

Spearmint tea or supplements slowed and reduced my growth immensely

Arapaima · 13/04/2018 05:17

I got my first chin hair at 31 after my first baby. Always the same one that grew back again and again. Then it was joined by friends. And I occasionally get nipple hairs too. I tried the epistick and it didn’t work for me at all - left them untouched. I’m 43 now and I pluck every couple of days. Very satisfying.

cloudtree · 13/04/2018 07:10

Theres a difference between ipl and laser treatment.

I had many sessions of laser. Full body. It worked on my bikini line, it reduced the hair on my legs significantly but not completely.

It worked temporarily on my face to reduce the hair but not remove it completely and after a few weeks it was back with a vengeance. It had an effect on my underarms but not dramatic. Probably a reduction of about a third.

Laser can work. I suspect it works more for people who don't have as much hair. But its expensive and isn't permanent. It needs to be topped up.

CurlyRover · 13/04/2018 07:15

I've got awful chin hair. Only started after I had the mirena coil fitted and unfortunately it's thick and black. I'm 27 with no DC but can only assume my hormones have gone out of whack with the mirena.

I pluck and always seem to miss some.

annandale · 13/04/2018 07:31

I assume I would have a full beard if I left it - dark but attractively patchy Hmm I started shaving a few years ago, I feel I can get away with once a day but twice is better.

I am saving up for a lumea - why doesn't it work with hormonal hair??
