To think that 13 is not an adult

TUI class 13 year olds as adults. AIBU to think that as a 13 year old can't drink alcohol that they shouldn't pay the adult price for all inclusive (NB booking is for 2 adults and a 13 year old so not making up a second adult)

I feel your pain. Just looked at domomh plans for Disney and child seems to stop at 10.

UrgentScurryfunge · 11/04/2018 23:14

They occupy an adult size space in a plane/ bus transfer/ bed. (Most 13 year olds are bigger than me). They are likely to have an adult sized appetite. Not all adults drink alcohol anyway.

BusyBeez99 · 11/04/2018 23:17

Mine doesn't at all. Hardly eats a thing. He won't have changed a bit in another 6 months. Just miffed that says 3xadult when he's not 18. They should say child is 3-12 and then have a 13-17 price for teens.

Busy they can't price seats according to the size of your child Grin As Scurry says, many are huge these days! My DD"s 13 and in her class, she is the shortest at 5.2....her mates all tower over me and I'm 5.6.

nancy75 · 11/04/2018 23:23

If it goes on size I want to pay child price, I’m only 5 foot so not taking up the space of an average adult!

Glug44 · 11/04/2018 23:24

It’s from airline rules which are crap really; all children above 1 year old should have their own seats and pay full price. A seat’s a seat.

AjasLipstick · 11/04/2018 23:25

*Nancy but they have to average it out....and you could be 5 ft and 15 stone! If they made 13 year olds children then there'd be plenty of 6 footers ganneting adult size meals and taking up all the space.

Tantpoke · 11/04/2018 23:26

My DS is 12 and 5' 7, taller than me and eats and drinks loads, god knows where he puts it, he is a slim athletic build.

TinWhistleTunes · 11/04/2018 23:28

A growing 13 year old can put away twice as much food as most adults...

Carboholic · 11/04/2018 23:29

When my DH was 13, his appetite was such that no all inclusive would have let him in! So you have to average it out.

I agree about them saving lots on alcohol though.

SparklyLeprechaun · 11/04/2018 23:29

I don't drink alcohol either but I don't expect teenager price for all inclusive.

Zoflorabore · 11/04/2018 23:32

At 13 my ds was around 5ft 10/11, built like a rugby player, started to shave and had size 12 feet.

He's now 15 and could pass as my husband if I put sunglasses on and hid under a blanket

To be fair though it should be priced differently, babies/children/teens/adults.

The ones who are actually 18 and able to vote.

Usertwo · 11/04/2018 23:34

Passengers aged 12-15 don’t pay APD tax so you’ll save around £78 per ‘youth’ at least. Or you should if that saving is passed on.

Also please note that nearly every airline in the world files child fares up to and including 11 years, after which adult fares apply. It’s not just TUI.

Some Caribbean destination carriers accept children fares up to 16 years however.

BackforGood · 11/04/2018 23:38

What Urgent said in the first reply.

Most teenagers eat far more than your average adult.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 11/04/2018 23:38

I’m not quite 5ft, can I pay a child’s fare?

OP. Seriously? Come on. It can’t be the first time your child hasn’t qualified as a child as far as pricing goes?

Aprilmightbemynewname · 11/04/2018 23:41

Tried to book a camp site in UK that classed from 10 as an adult!!

Marcipex · 11/04/2018 23:47

I pity the all -inclusive feeding my two, or their friends, at 13 onwards.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/04/2018 23:47

I think for an AI its fair enough. I don't really drink but my teenagers could win gold medals for eating. But in general the policy of age does frustrate me. Things like the cinema for example. A seat is a seat, you don't get more of a seat as a teenager than you do as a child and mostly you have no independent income so why does it cost more to watch the movie? I had an argument with our local sports centre about a similar issue. They have child prices, teen prices and adult prices, students get a discount which means they get in for less than a teenager....but a student has an opportunity to earn as well as study, the average 13 year old doesn't and so therefore you are essentially just charging parents a premium. Again they don't cost any more in the swimming pool or tennis court than a child. I got nowhere and yet they moan that there is a childhood obesity crisis, especially amongst teenagers.

Foslady · 11/04/2018 23:52

Try holidaying as a single parent - everywhere is based on two adults sharing, I’ve been paying for dd as an adult since she was 6......

Mydoghatesthebath · 11/04/2018 23:55

All my kids were bigger and taller then me at 13! Are for England too. I am 5 Foot 1 and 8 stone :) tbf I can drink loads of wine so evens out.

BackforGood · 12/04/2018 00:27

Thinking about it, as dc and as teens, my dc have always drunk loads more throughout the day than I do. Their 5 x lemonade or whatever is going to cost more than my local glass of wine.

ThistleAmore · 12/04/2018 00:33

38-year-old, 5'8", 70kg me eats considerably less than 13-17-year-old me, who competed in a number of sports at national level, while growing at a ridiculous rate.

I'm still astonished that my not-very-wealthy parents could afford to feed me: I could easily clear a fridge at one sitting, and then go back for more.

I can only assume they heaved a massive sigh of relief when I left home.

BusyBeez99 · 12/04/2018 09:48

I think it's the word adult that annoyed me. He's certainly not an adult but a child. Just didn't expect it when they ask how many adults and children and then ask child's age and it goes up to 17.

Am sucking it up but just think their choice of words is incorrect. Should be 0-2, 3-12 and then 13+ including adults

My DS eats like a sparrow so I shall instead ensure I drink lots to make up the shortfall in £ spent!

Jet 2 charged my 9 year old as an adult last year .
