AIBU to think the press coverage of this case is woeful in comparison to that of the Turpin Family and all these children are Missing Presumed Dead. Its this an example of institutional racism in the media?time.com/5230702/california-cliff-crash-hart-family-child-abuse/

So there is possible abuse background from the SAHM, in that she was the perpetrator? That coupled with the fact that the investigators ignored the child in the naming of the abuser.

That daily mail link is horrible in that it's clearly homophobic and states that S was 'smiling' in the mug shot - ?

What grieves me about the case is the behaviour of the neighbours, who had a clear indication of the abuse that was ongoing within months of the family moving in. I get the feeling that the wife was in a controlling relationship and therefore was stopped by her husband for taking actions further.

If a young looking child knocked on my door in the middle of the night, in a state and said her parents were abusive can she please stay, I'd call the police immediately. But even if I'd been silenced, after the Turpin case, I'd be right on the phone. Turpin case was January of this year.

I wonder if the Turpin case had anything to do with these parents deciding to leave/kill their family.

What I don't understand is how they identified all of the people in the car so quickly but are unable to identify the body recovered because it has to go to DNA results? I do understand that a few weeks in the sea where there are rocks will distort a body. Also. How are the authorities sure the missing three were in the car?

Beyond11cisRetinol · 12/04/2018 13:36

Warning for detail, though I've tried to be careful in my wording...

Elendon, the only reason I can think of why the investigators would be very very sure that the other three were in the car when it went off, is that there was some sort of trauma-induced biological evidence found in the car. Which would suggest they were thrown about inside before being ejected, even if there is no sign of them now.

Beyond11cisRetinol · 12/04/2018 13:37

Even video proof they were in the car at some point (if there is any) wouldn't make them so sure that they were there at impact. Imo.

I think it’s exactly that; Visual ID possible for intact bodies, DNA needed for the badly damaged one.

Beyond11cisRetinol · 12/04/2018 13:41

Not just rocks either, but creatures that scavenge

Battleax · 12/04/2018 13:43

I imagine they’ve got eyewitnesses who saw them together earlier in the journey, and what are the other possibilities anyway? If some me of the DC had escaped or been left behind, they’d have turned up by now. They’re not adults with credit cards and vehicles and generally the wherewithal to fly under the radar. (Why would they want to?) The only other possibility is that they were killed earlier, elsewhere. But then that throws up a dozen other questions. The likelihood has got to be that they were all in the MPV.

Thanks for your replies.

By all accounts there have been huge storms in the area and the most likely scenario is that all have perished and two bodies are unlikely to be found.

It does strike me as odd though that the two who children who asked for help from the neighbours, who eventually contacted CPS, are the ones who are missing and unlikely to be found. But sadly, in this case, I think this is an unfortunate coincidence.

Agree, I found that astonishing. Those poof children.

Poor

I've been following this case. The mum in the cctv footage (Jen) looks nothing like the photos. She's seriously changed and looks like she let herself go. I wonder why the kids weren't wearing seatbelts but mums were. Were they trying to get out? So very sad.

I can't seem to sign out of my Hotmail without another story coming up about a US adopted child being starved to death, this is at least twice a week. There does need to be Safeguards put in place because the system isn't working as it is.
