To want the coins first, then the notes

Suspect I'm pissing in the wind as this has gone on all of my life and doesn't look set to change any time soon.

Cashiers, till operators, retail staff. When I'm piled with bags and have my purse in one hand and have the other hand willing, nay eager to accept coins and notes in change - why do you put the note on my palm first and then pile coins on top? This makes it IMPOSSIBLE to tip the coins effectively, especially with a queue champing at the bit behind you.

Please. Coins in palm, notes offered to grasping fingers so it/they can be stowed first. I thengyou.

I sent a cashier into a dither last week by handing her a £10 note plus 20p for a £5.20 item. The look of panic was amazing, as was the lightbulb moment as I explained my reasoning.

Since contactless I hardly ever use cash but I just push the note into a funnel and tip the coins in. I've never really noticed it being a problem to be honest.

YANBU and it used to be the norm.

No, no, no.... Notes first, then coins. I don't want coins first, it makes it too awkward to put everything away. Coins slide easily off the notes into the purse and then the notes can be put into the back bit, if I tried to do the notes first all the coins would drop from underneath. I don't know how the rest of you put money away but coins first is idiotic!!

Coins slide easily off the notes into the purse - they also slide easily off the notes onto the floor.

MrsI
She was, but not school age, it's happened to me several times as I often offer the change, to get smaller notes or pound coins. Just don't think mental maths is some folks strong point.

Coins in jeans pocket, notes in coat pocket. Job done. Grin

Andrewofgg · 11/04/2018 14:00

I prefer notes first but if I get coins first it does not embitter my day!

Thunderblunder · 11/04/2018 14:05

YABU

Much prefer when I get given notes first then coins although it seems I'm in a minority on here!

QuinionsRainbow · 11/04/2018 14:16

It’s not really that hard... the coins slide off the note into the purse

Or on to the floor, more often than not!
