How much is too much to spend

We're planning on going to Bath for a couple of days in the summer (family of four). I have researched hotels to death and have found one that looks lovely for £600 (for both nights) including dinner 😱. So many of them charge literally twice the price if you have children.

Is that a ridiculous price to pay or should we go for it?

that sounds very expensive! are you booking two rooms? is that why?
will you do a family room? how old are your kids? when do you want to go? let me have a google

Merryoldgoat · 10/04/2018 20:48

If you can afford it and want to go, go!

It’s all relative.

Extravagant · 10/04/2018 20:49

No, so few do family rooms and this one is a suite (because that's the only option apart from booking two rooms, which would cost even more). We want to stay just outside Bath in a country hotel if poss. Late July and kids are both under 10.

Bath is expensive for accomidation.

Pinkmexicanskull · 10/04/2018 20:50

You’d be able to get a beautiful Air BnB for half that, and spend the rest you would have spent in hotels on gorgeous food and drink!

Extravagant · 10/04/2018 20:51

I'm just getting confused and have totally lost sight of what is reasonable to pay!

How about this?

MrsHathaway · 10/04/2018 20:55

I was also going to say AirBnB (though get a code from a referring friend to get £20+ off your first booking). When travelling with children it's always worth having more spaces esp a kitchen, somewhere to drink wine sit quietly after the DC go to bed.

TroubledLichen · 10/04/2018 20:58

That depends enteriely on whether or not you can afford it and what if anything, you’d need to go without to pay for it.

For two adults, two kids and including dinner for two nights that actually seems really reasonable to me, especially if it’s a nice country hotel. But it’s all relative as per the PP recommending you stay in a youth hostel. Whatever you decide, I’m sure you will have a great trip, bath is lovely!

firstworldproblems2018 · 10/04/2018 21:01

Totally depends on if you can afford it and at what cost to other things. For four of you in peak holiday time it doesn’t sound ridiculous but is probably more than I’d want to pay.

Extravagant · 10/04/2018 21:02

Thanks all. TroubledLichen, we're talking a nice country hotel and spa, with a discount on their usual rates (usual cost £880!)

firstworldproblems2018 · 10/04/2018 21:02

Just seen it includes dinner. Does it also include breakfast? Use of facilities (eg does it have a pool)?

TroubledLichen · 10/04/2018 21:06

In that case it sounds like even more of a bargain! Don’t get me wrong I love air bnb but you do have to do your own washing up... a spa sounds like a real treat! Providing you can afford it of course Grin

Extravagant · 10/04/2018 21:16

Yes, it includes breakfast and hotel has excellent reviews. DCs can't use the spa facilities but can use the heated outdoor pool.

firstworldproblems2018 · 10/04/2018 21:18

If you can afford it, I’d go. Sounds lovely!

Extravagant · 10/04/2018 21:22

Thanks, I am seriously tempted. It wouldn't mean having to go without something else but I am normally more careful with money (and know it can be done a lot more cheaply, albeit in a less nice hotel).

Apex hotel bath do family rooms

TroubledLichen · 10/04/2018 21:24

Even better than DC can’t use the spa. DH can take them to the pool whilst you relax in the spa Wink

crunchymint · 10/04/2018 21:25

The cheapest air bnb posted on this thread costs £400 for 2 nights. But no breakfast, dinner or pool. I think £600 sounds fine of you really like the hotel. There are cheaper options available, but it is reasonable for what you are getting.

Tinkobell · 10/04/2018 21:27

The B&B's in Bath are very nice and cheaper .....some are really high end actually with organic breakfasts etc....she TA. Many are located on the other side of the hill, so you get a bit of a work-out to boot! I wouldn't personally do a dinner deal, as there are tonnes of great Asian places etc that are delicious & cheaper.

Extravagant · 10/04/2018 21:33

Yes, the Apex looked good but perhaps a bit noisy (reviews said the walls were paper thin and it's by two main roads). I can't stand being kept awake by noise!
