How much is too much to spend

We're planning on going to Bath for a couple of days in the summer (family of four). I have researched hotels to death and have found one that looks lovely for £600 (for both nights) including dinner 😱. So many of them charge literally twice the price if you have children.

Is that a ridiculous price to pay or should we go for it?

The hotel would be part of the treat but we will also explore central Bath. Have realised it is very slightly cheaper than I said - £560 but that includes just the adults' dinners (£7.50 per child's meal so £590 in total).

I think if you have young children and the food is good, eating at the hotel is much more relaxing than going out in the evening.

Woolley grange?

NormHonal · 10/04/2018 21:46

Is it Woolley Grange? That’s v good btw. Excellent facilities for young children (we stayed there ages ago).

sameoldsame · 10/04/2018 21:47

Sounds reasonable
I mean not cheap
But that’s all food and entertainment
Sure you could pay 200 less for something and then what! 2 breakfasts out 40£
Meals out, lunch out. Something to entertain everyone
Roman baths/bath spa 50 p/p
Then drinks and bits n bobs

Sounds pretty good to me

Tobebythesea · 10/04/2018 21:47

We’re going there next month as we have a small child and it’s really good at catering for little ones. ££ though.

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 10/04/2018 21:50

If you can afford it, and the pool etc makes whole trip more fun for the children, and more luxe for you then why not?

However I would say that hotel dinners are sometimes not all that

Extravagant · 10/04/2018 21:53

No, not Woolley Grange, though it looks lovely there too. More along the lines of Bailbrook Lodge but possibly even a little nicer!

Bannantynes Charlton house and spa is excellent if that's anything similar to your hotel

Extravagant · 10/04/2018 22:02

It's Homewood Park :-)

There is a stunning airbnb in Westbury. It is an annex to a house. Absolutely spot on for a family. Very reasonable and just a short ride into bath (recommend park and ride) or bus into town.

YouCantGetHereFromThere · 11/04/2018 03:13

IME the nicest hotel in central Bath is the Queensberry.

Homewood Park looks absolutely gorgeous and worth the money OP. It's in beautiful countryside.

sameoldsame · 11/04/2018 06:43

Looks amazing! Do it

MarkleAndSpencer · 11/04/2018 06:54

Homewood park is nice enough. The spa and outdoor poor are tiny though - have a good look at the photos! If I was coming to the area with kids I'd choose Woolley Grange over Homewood Park for that kind of price - much better facilities.

MarkleAndSpencer · 11/04/2018 06:59

Outdoor pool, not poor.

Extravagant · 11/04/2018 08:10

Many thanks - I'm not familiar with Bath so it's really helpful to hear from people who know the hotels. I did look into the Queensberry but there was a problem (incredibly expensive and/or no family rooms)

Woolley Grange does look amazing but maybe a bit far away (we're not planning on hiring a car as I thought it would be cheaper to get taxis a couple of times a day than hiring a car and hear it's difficult to park in central Bath).

Surely it depends what you want / can afford?

A country house hotel with spa is obviously going to be more than an air b n b or a travelodge. You can't compare them!

I think that's a pretty good price.
