To Book a Holiday when TTC?

BarberellaWife · 10/04/2018 16:47

My husband and i are currently ttc and have been since October. I am currently in the two week wait.

We wasn't going to go on holiday this year as we are trying to save as much as possible but feel we need one last break until we hopefully become parents as it hasn't happened as quickly as we first thought.

We have found a cheap break in turkey for a week at the start of October but I'm worried about flying whilst pregnant.

If i was to get pregnant this month i'd be about 26/27 weeks if we go... would this be unwise to do?

No, go for it! You can't put your life on hold waiting for it to happen

vivavivaviva · 10/04/2018 16:54

Nah, it'll probably be fine and it'll be your last proper holiday for years if you do conceive. Go for it!

EveningHare · 10/04/2018 16:57

you should go - dont put your life on hold, you will be pregnant not dying

Catspaws · 10/04/2018 16:59

Do it! You have to live your life! Get the right kind of insurance just in case Smile

Thiswayorthatway · 10/04/2018 16:59

No risk in flying when pregnant

SecretBum · 10/04/2018 17:04

I really wouldn't.

You have no idea how you'll be. You could be sick, you could have sciatica or high blood pressure or any number of other conditions that get worse towards the end of the second trimester.

I had a holiday booked for when I was 30weeks and had to cancel last minute.

RandomUsernameHere · 10/04/2018 17:04

YANBU, go for it and enjoy yourself! Like someone else said, be sure to check the details of your travel insurance and don't go anywhere with Zika virus.

Thiswayorthatway · 10/04/2018 17:14

SecretBum, or the OP could be blooming! Seriously, don't put life on hold when ttc.

Pinkvoid · 10/04/2018 17:26

Definitely do it. I have been on holiday at 30 weeks pregnant and it was absolutely fine. As others have said, you can’t put your life on hold.

SecretBum · 10/04/2018 17:26

Of course she could!

Or she could not.

The uncertainty for me would make me not plan a holiday 25 weeks + as there's no way to know.

BlueRainyDays · 10/04/2018 17:27

Tbh if I'd done that then we'd have lost a lot of money because I am so unwell in my pregnancies.
You don't know how you would be.
If you can afford to lose the money then go for it, you could be perfectly fine.

SoyDora · 10/04/2018 17:28

I went on holiday in both pregnancies at around 30 weeks with absolutely no issues at all.
You may not feel up to flying then due to pregnant, equally you may not even be pregnant by then! Who knows. I don’t think you can put your life on hold.

mellowyellow2018 · 10/04/2018 17:32

What happens if you’re TTC for years? Don’t put your life on hold xx

Bambamber · 10/04/2018 17:33

You would be able to fly at that stage as long as you don't have any complications and are feeling up to it. You would have to check t+cs of travel insurance to check both you and baby would be covered if you went into pren labour while there, specialist insurance that covers this can be very expensive. You would also have to consider If you did have any pregnancy related problems while out there, would you feel comfortable with the level of care?

All sounds very dramatic and takes into consideration worst case scenario, but I persobally think you have to have all bases covered when travelling when pregnant. I flew long haul at 32 weeks for 2 weeks. Didn't regret a thing. But what would you do if your Dr advised you not to travel? Again not all insurers would cover a cancellation due to pregnancy unless it reasons met very specific requirements. I spend a lot of time reading t+cs when deciding what insurance company to go with Blush

Bambamber · 10/04/2018 17:34

You could always have a look through insurance companies to see if any would cover full costs in case of cancellation due to pregnancy. But I do agree you shouldn't put your life on hold while TTC

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/04/2018 17:35

I wouldn't. Wait till when you want to go then book something.

Pippa12 · 10/04/2018 17:41

I definately agree not to put your life on hold. I went to Santorini with my first pregnancy and Turkey with my second. However i was around 20weeks. I wasn't uncomfortable yet and the tiredness/sickness from 1st trimester had passed. Personally after 25wks the heat and discomfort would put me off. Id 100% go away- but for i think around 20wks is a better time. Have fun!

Yogagirl123 · 10/04/2018 17:41

DH & I went abroad on holiday when I was around 6 mths with DS1, I was fortunate to have a hassle free pregnancy, I and the healthcare professionals had no concerns about me going away. It was brilliant, a really relaxing trip. I hope you get some good news soon. Being a mum is awesome. Flowers

SummerRoberts · 10/04/2018 17:42

I've been ttc for years. If I hadn't been able to let myself have a holiday "just in case", on top of not being able to get pregnant, I think I'd have had a breakdown by now!

SoyDora · 10/04/2018 17:49

It took 13 months to conceive our first, with no fertility issues. It just took a long time. I’m glad we didn’t avoid doing things for that time ‘just in case’.

KhalDrogosBeard · 10/04/2018 17:50

We booked a holiday whilst TTC and I was 26 weeks pregnant when we went Smile

mommybear1 · 10/04/2018 18:24

Book it!!! I spent 7 years ttc and in the last two we booked holidays as we had put everything on hold waiting for a baby but still limited what we did ie no foreign holidays - in 2016 we had a lightbulb moment and thought we were putting too much pressure on ourselves and couldn't keep restricting our lives. We booked a short break for March 2017 found out I was pregnant just beforehand. Good luck OP ThanksCake

cestlavielife · 10/04/2018 18:28

Book a holiday e.g. jet2 or ba.com which takes a small deposit with the rest paid 6 weeks before. That way you can change your mind later

BlueRainyDays · 10/04/2018 19:40

Definitely look into insurance if you do!

ISpeakJive · 10/04/2018 20:09

I’ve had 3 children and have travelled at different stages with each of them from 8 weeks to 36 weeks (which is the cut off). I was absolutely fine.

Good luck with TTC Easter Smile
