To not bother wearing a bra?

lots2doooo · 10/04/2018 15:29

I personally find them uncomfortable. I don’t like how they dig in at the back and the straps annoy me.

Obviously not having a go at people who prefer to wear one, but is it ‘wrong’ to go without?

I'm a part time freeboober, depending on if I am home (60%) or out in public wearing a big coat (20%) or in public in warm weather (20%).
First two, freeboobing, third, bra time

I’m so jealous of whoever can gonwithout a bra. One thing I love about winter jackets is that I don’t have to have a bra under them. But I always, always get the peanut effect without padding, they sometimes show through padded t-shirt bras as well.
I rip them off as soon as I get in the house.

The thing is that studies have shown that breasts retain their shape more over time when they're not in bras, so I certainly don't buy the whole sagging thing.

PrettyLittIeThing · 10/04/2018 16:49

I can't get away without wearing a bra unfortunately. After bf 4 children mine are round my ankles.

Sallystyle · 10/04/2018 17:01

I only wear them at work, because my nipple piercing shows through most clothing and I get cold quickly.

I might wear one when I am wearing certain tops. I am small chested but some tops won't look right without one and will hang at the chest area. That isn't often though.

I need to find a crop top with enough padding to cover up nipple. I keep meaning to look but never seem to get around to it.

Bras are horrible and being small chested means I can mostly get away without wearing one.

GerdaLovesLili · 10/04/2018 17:50

Interesting 2nd post OP.

MagneticMan · 10/04/2018 18:25

Reminds me of Sid the Sexist in Viz - tits oot for the lads.

Wear one or don't, it's just another piece of optional clothing. As long as you have a top on who gives a shiny shite.

crumble2 · 10/04/2018 19:42

How can it be 'wrong' to go without? Just do what you like.
lljkk your post appears very insensitive imo.

sameoldsame · 10/04/2018 19:45

I wear these everyday, just in case I fancy a snack

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 10/04/2018 19:48

I wear crop tops, because they don't dig in, they're cheaper and I can buy them off the peg, unlike a 40AA bra.

KatharinaRosalie · 11/04/2018 13:03

The thing is that studies have shown that breasts retain their shape more over time when they're not in bras

Studies have not shown such a thing. There was one study where they compared the sagginess of boobs of people who habitually wore bras with the ones who often went braless. They did indeed find that braless people were less saggy - but didn't take into account the boob size and the fact that people more likely to walk around braless are also more likely to have smaller boobs. So what the study really showed was that bigger boobs tend to sag more than smaller. I could have told them that Grin

speakout · 11/04/2018 15:30

What a strange thread

flowerslemonade · 11/04/2018 16:07

Umm... actually yes, studies have shown that:

www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/259073.php
www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/no-bra-day-special-are-bras-bad-you/
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/9987571/Research-suggests-bras-do-no-good.html

You might be referencing a different study possibly, I'm not sure. A direct quote from him is “Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra"

Anyway, anecdotally I've found a massive improvement since I stopped wearing one, which I didn't think was possible. My back also hurts less which has been amazing. Irrespective of that study (and I'm aware it has limitations - as does pretty much every piece of research) I'm going to go by my own experience and what's worked for me! :)

Nettleskeins · 11/04/2018 16:28

I think if you don't wear one you start standing a bit better, and you start subconsciously using the muscles in your back and torso that support your breasts. And various other saggy bits.

I don't wear one much

KatharinaRosalie · 11/04/2018 17:36

Umm... actually yes, studies have shown that

You talking about 'studies', which ones? All your links talk about the same single study of 330 women, where crucially, as I said, women's boob sizes and the reasons for not wearing a bra were not taken into account.

The bigger the boobs, the less likely a woman, on average, is going around braless, would you not agree? So the fact that 'women who never wore bras had nipples on average seven millimeters higher' does not show bras cause sagging. It shows that women with smaller perkier breasts are more likely not to wear bras.

Nobeachbody · 11/04/2018 17:40

You are lucky to be able to get away without wearing a bra. I have got massive tits, (38G), and there's no way I could go about without wearing one. Not that I'd want to either, it would be so uncomfortable!
SomeKnobed what size are you?? Would you wear a t shirt without a bra? I would look HIDEOUS, and wouldn't contemplate it if you paid me!

Even if I were flat chested I don't think I'd feel comfortable with prominent nipple reveal a la Trinny, (she of Trinny/Susannah fame) who has small boobs but has v prominent nipples. Find it a bit off putting and distracting tbh, so god knows what men must think. Still, each to their own.

villageshop · 11/04/2018 18:00

The whole 'I don't wear a bra' thing is quite annoying for those of us with enormous boobs. I am so envious.

I am slim overall (size 10) but my ginormous breasts make me look much bigger than I am for my small 5 ft 2" frame and there's no way I could go without a bra outside the home. I take off my bra as soon as I get home because the straps make deep indents in my shoulders but it is quite dangerous at times like when they swing about and catch on door handles (ouch!) and that's wearing clothes. They also get unpleasantly sweaty underneath. I have thought about a reduction but it seems wrong to go through surgery for something so superficial in the scheme of things.

So yes, it is mostly women with small breasts who go braless which certainly skews any data there may be.

SomeKnobend · 11/04/2018 18:07

Villageshop last time I bought a bra it was something like a 36F or G. I am 5ft. Some of "those of us with large breasts" don't wear a bra. You can, in fact, go without a bra outside of your house. Have a go. I promise it is physically possible. I do it aaaaaall the time. What you mean is, you'd rather people didn't see it, or that you give a shit that perhaps they would rather not see it. Doesn't mean it doesn't or shouldn't happen. I put my comfort above other people's opinions of having a brief view of my clothed body as we go about our day. If they even give a shit, I certainly don't.

immortalmarble · 11/04/2018 18:07

If it enhances your life it isn’t wrong.

Huskylover1 · 11/04/2018 18:11

Only acceptable if your top is thick enough so as not to reveal pointy nipples, imo. Any time I see a woman who is obviously bra-less, I presume she's done it for male attention.

Dionysus78 · 11/04/2018 18:11

I'm 36G and find bras extremely uncomfortable. I am much happier without one, but don't feel confident enough to not wear one in public. It's a ridiculous societal expectation.

GinAndSonic · 11/04/2018 18:16

I'm a 34J. I'm 5ft 1. And I'm fat. And on Friday I'm going out in my size 22 skinny high waisted jeans and a cropped t shirt with no bra. Bras are optional.

GinAndSonic · 11/04/2018 18:17

husky I can assure you that literally nothing I do, including having nipples in public, is done in order to attract male attention Hmm

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 11/04/2018 18:22

I am far less sweaty when braless.

Nobeachbody · 11/04/2018 18:35

Ginandsonic of course bras are "optional". But i simply couldn't imagine going out of the house not wearing one. Not just because of what other people think - though think i would be mortified by the inevitable disapproving stares - but the discomfort. I like my knockers securely strapped down in place, with no unncessary jiggling or swinging left, right and centre!!!

i think you should post a pic of yourself in your gladrags, you sound fantastic!
