for wanting to walk in the park without being bounced on by giant b*stard dogs?

Shouldn't people keep an eye on their fricking dogs and not let them run all over parks and scare the crap out of people? Was subjected to about 5 minutes fending the world's biggest dog off before the stupid bitch of an owner came sauntering round the corner. Don't people understand that just because they think their dog is great doesn't mean anyone else does?

I was walking my dd along the beach top and a bloke was walking a staff, my dd smiled at the dog (she was 18 months old at the time) he let it off the lead to come and see her - from a distance - couldnt shout at him as the wind was too strong. The bloody dog built like a brick wall jumped straight up onto my dd sweeping her off her feet and sniffed her all over - my dd was terrified.

She was so so scared she would pannic every time we passed a dog, so a couple of months ago I took her to see some jack russell pups, she chose one and we took him home, she has watched him grow and loves him.

Some dog owners think just because they love their dog everyone else does too Far from it.

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 16:51

At least they're picking it up!

My next door neighbours have half a dozen dogs (no joke - in a 3bed house with 3 kids awell!) and their garden is always covered in dog shite. They rarely clear it up and I can't sit in my garden for too long because the stench is awful.

Am off to the garden centre next week to buy lots of fragrant flowers to try to disguise the smell

paddingtonbear1 · 11/05/2007 16:52

I'm a cyclist and I find a lot of dogs hate bikes! I don't cycle in parks but along bridleways, I've often been chased. My dad was brought off his bike once by a dog rushing out into the road in front of him.

Hillls · 11/05/2007 16:53

butterflywings you dont live down my road do you?? You have just described my neighbour to a tea

flightattendant · 11/05/2007 16:53

Butterfly, can you maybe complain to environmental health? Might be able to help.

NeverEndingPileOfLaundry · 11/05/2007 16:53

I was knocked over by a "friendly" dog when I was little. Took me years to get over my fear of them, then, when walking to work across a park one day was jumped on by the scariest dog ever, growling, teeth everywhere. Owner didn't even apologise .

Needless to say I am now terrified of dogs again.....

cylonbabe · 11/05/2007 16:55

responsible dog owners command my respect.
i just dont understand why they want to be dog owners in the first place.

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 16:55

Yeah, I think I might have to complain to Environmental Health...
It's a shame because I hate the thought of getting into 'disputes' with my neighbours

Hillls · 11/05/2007 16:55

Oh Paddingtonbear1 I hate bikes down bridal ways, I always stuck to them when riding my horse out as we cant really ride anywhere else due to traffic etc. So many accidents happened with bikes and riders where horses saw bikes at the last minute (being mostly youngsters in training)

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 16:56

It's bloody awful, isn't it Hillls?

I love gardening aswell...

It's Ok, they won't tell them who complained. Worth a try. While being REALLY nice and friendly to them and admiring their dogs a lot to reduce suspicion.

Hillls · 11/05/2007 16:58

It is no need for it.

My dog always wants a poo crossing the road nothing like getting your bag out with traffic queing either side of you

rabbleraiser · 11/05/2007 17:01

Being mounted by a shaggy labrador ....

I should be so lucky (lucky, lucky, lucky).

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 17:04

Ah, I never thought of that flightattendant...

Lol Hills!

Wuxiapian · 11/05/2007 22:13

I went running in the park the other week and this dog, almost as tall as me (a rodesian ridgeback or something), started charging towards me. I was terrified and stopped stiff in my tracks.
The humungous beast of a dog started jumping up at me, had it's nose in my crotch an allsorts. Twas most undignified.
"He's only playing with you" came the idiot response from it's owner.
There's also a woman who's regularly there with 4 rottweilers (sp?), none of them on leads.

There should be some kind of law that insists on dogs being on leads.

Clarinet60 · 11/05/2007 22:46

I've got the best dog story ever.
I was on the beach with ds last year on a blustery April day. A dog ran up to us and did a WEE straight INSIDE ds's buggy with the most perfect straight aim you've ever seen. (ds was not in it at the time). The owner was most apologetic, but did nothing to help me clean it.

Seconds later, another dog bounded up and weed into ds's sand-castle bucket before anyone had a chance to stop it. It was amazing. The buggy still smelt after I'd bleached it, so it went for scrap

Elf · 12/05/2007 07:50

Has anyone got a really witty and wonderful retort that we can all have ready the next time a dog owner tells us how their dog won't hurt our dc when it's frightening the life out of them?

foxybrown · 12/05/2007 07:53

Not a smart retort, but when the dogs jump up on my smart children I the idiot owner says "don't worry, he's only playing" I say "And how would you feel if a 6 foot dog came and jumped up on you?" My DS1 is now scared of dogs which is a shame.

The just don't think that children are little and the dogs are probably bigger than they are. Dur!

kimi · 12/05/2007 08:03

My sister was attacked by a dog when she was small had has been scared of them ever since.
I remember this big black dog, (no owner in sight) running at her and barking and jumping on her biting.
My mother folded up the buggy and beat the dog to get it off my sister (she half killed it).
This was at least 26 years ago but I still remember my sister screaming and all the blood.

whomovedmychocolate · 12/05/2007 08:08

I'm a cat persons. Cats might bring in dead things, but at least they don't try and hump your leg

Dogs are smelly too - how come dog owners aren't aware of this fact. I can spot a dog owners house at ten paces these days. My SiL has three large dogs and the entire house REEKS!

NB I'm sure Mumsnet dog owners have nice smelling houses in spite of the dogs but honestly, give your dogs a sniff now and then, they do pong!

kimi · 12/05/2007 08:10

I love my cats (although they live with DH1 as DP is allergic

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2007 08:11

Sorry Droile but I'm PMSL at your doggy stories!!

I don't hate dogs, we had one when I was a child. I dislike them running loose though and think that some owners should take the time to appreciate that dogs 'being friendly' ie sniffing and jumping up isn't everyone's cup of tea.

kerala · 12/05/2007 09:56

We have neighbours who have a big nasty fighting dog type animal. It has recently learnt to leap over the 6ft fence we paid for to keep it out. It would have landed on dd (9 months) if DH not fought it off. Now I cannot relax in our garden.

When I complain the response "its my right to have dogs innit" and "its cruel to tie them up". Surely its cruel to keep big dogs in tiny one bedroom flats in the middle of London?

Personally think you should only have dogs if you live on a farm. Know I will get berated by dog owners but cant stand them. Was bitten on the face by labrador when a child and still remember the injustice of the owner telling my mum it was my fault for teasing it when I knew I hadnt

Rant over!
