People dying their hair in public places...arrrrgghhhh can I do anything?

A few times a year for a period of a few weeks at a time when I go to the gym there are people who use the gym facilities to shower etc. Unfortunately this also includes dying their hair. It gets all in the shower, across the floors...everywhere.
The whole mess aside, I am allergic to PPD. Like seriously allergic.
The last time I came into contact with it I ended up in hospital for days. The only reason I'm still alive is because my neighbour saw me collapse on the path.
I always explain this to the gym manager who in the past has let me use the staff changing room and put signs up.
I went to the gym tonight....hair dye everywhere again. I spoke to the new manager who said she knows who is responsible but they pay to use the facilities so there is nothing they can do.
I reasoned that if I had been repeatedly told to not do something and carried on doing it then I'm sure my membership would be revoked. So why won't they take that approach.
Her whole response was "short of following them in and dragging them out, which I can't do, what do you expect me to do"
I just felt so frustrated. It's the only gym round here and it's where I go to destress and it really helps with my anxiety. But now it looks like I'll have to leave.

That is unbelievable!

I saw a woman shaving her legs in the steam room once, I thought that was bad enough.

GabsAlot · 09/04/2018 19:50

not going tobe homeless is it im sure theyve got better things to spend their money on

conmplain to the council andmention being sued

Hassled · 09/04/2018 19:51

At my GP's surgery last time I was there, there was a sign in the ladies' loo apologising for the dodgy looking brown smears on the wall and floor and explaining that someone had decided the loo at a GP's surgery was a suitable place to dye their hair. People are absolutely fucking nuts sometimes.

MumofBoysx2 · 09/04/2018 19:51

That's bonkers! And gross. Can't get over that. WTAF do they do that??

yawning801 · 09/04/2018 19:53

Am I the only one who thought the title said "dying their hair in pubic places"...?

mouseistrapped · 09/04/2018 19:53

Get in touch with Environmental health- of
Course this can't be tolerated.

Email the leisure manager and ask
Him to Confirm What he said in writing.

chubbymummy · 09/04/2018 19:55

Homeless people .... really?
Do people seriously think that dyeing your hair is a priority when you can't afford food, warm clothing and a roof over your head? I'm absolutely baffled by that suggestion and even more bewildered that several people are in agreement with it. I don't think you have any concept of what it's like to be homeless at all!

GnotherGnu · 09/04/2018 19:56

Can we pack in the racism against travellers? theredcard.ie/travellers-racism/

GnotherGnu · 09/04/2018 19:58

The manager is being ridiculous. Of course there is something she can do about it - she can revoke the membership of the people responsible if they've been asked not to do this and are ignoring the requests. It would also be helpful if they put up large notices saying it is not permitted and pointing out that it can be life-threatening to people with allergies.

Bloody hell I read this as "people dyeing their hair in PUBIC places... aaarrgh can I do anything" and opened it to find out why and how you'd help with that 😳😱

Note, I was NOT surprised that it would be a MN post though 😂😂👍

GreenTeek · 09/04/2018 19:58

I’m not sure it’s racism to point out that travellers use leisure centres as bathrooms quite regularly.

It’s a fact. Neither positive or negative

CallThePenguins · 09/04/2018 19:59

Years (20) ago some friends lived in squats. There was a public pool 5 mins away so they and the kids used to go there to shower.

TroubledLichen · 09/04/2018 19:59

Homeless doesn’t necessarily mean sleeping on the streets and begging for change. I could very much imagine someone in temporary council accommodation like a b&b without access to a private bathroom would resort to this, especially if they had a job interview coming up. Let’s have some sympathy.

Although I agree it’s totally unfair on the OP and her allergies. However, the most the leisure centre management can realistically do (except for banning the pay for showers which would be awful), is stick up a no hair dye sign. They can’t spy on people in the changing rooms/showers and if people ignore the request realistically there’s not an awful lot that can be done. So as the OPs allergies are life threatening, she might be best switching to a private gym that’s members only.

MimpiDreams · 09/04/2018 19:59

I asked DH about this as he's a chemistry prof and his response was Shock with a 'fucking hell' added. He said leisure centre = chlorine bleach. Hair dyes often contain acid. Chlorine bleach + acid = chlorine gas ie the stuff used in the trenches during WW1.

QueenieS · 09/04/2018 20:02

Do does she sit there for 30 minutes waiting for it to develop then?

flowerslemonade · 09/04/2018 20:03

The swimming pool one of my friends uses has a similar issue. He stopped going there. Basically there were people shaving their beards, doing all kinds of stuff, brushing their teeth. His theory was similar to what a poster said above. It was in an area with lots of bedsits and because there was a day pass for £6 he thought people were using it kind of as a bathroom and doing all kinds of personal hygiene stuff there. However... the allergy issue is way more serious. I hope you get it sorted.

flowerslemonade · 09/04/2018 20:04

BTW grossest thing I ever encountered was someone flossing their teeth on the bus :( :( :( :( on the seat in front of me. I moved :( :( :( :(

Glug44 · 09/04/2018 20:07

They need to understand that hairdye allergies develop and get worse with more contact. The lady dyeing her hair is putting everyone at risk.

Globetrotter100 · 09/04/2018 20:07

I read this as people dying their hair in pubic places ConfusedHmm but I actually think dying it in public places is even stranger. And gross.

missbonita · 09/04/2018 20:08

our leisure centre has big signs up in all the changing rooms saying 'NO DYING HAIR OR SHAVING'. I always wondered what weirdo would do that?

I’ve flossed my teeth in my car before. (No one else in the car) - would you think that’s gross if you saw that in the window? Genuinely curious. I don’t make a habit of it btw.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 09/04/2018 20:11

Op is it travellers? I'm curious really
