People dying their hair in public places...arrrrgghhhh can I do anything?

A few times a year for a period of a few weeks at a time when I go to the gym there are people who use the gym facilities to shower etc. Unfortunately this also includes dying their hair. It gets all in the shower, across the floors...everywhere.
The whole mess aside, I am allergic to PPD. Like seriously allergic.
The last time I came into contact with it I ended up in hospital for days. The only reason I'm still alive is because my neighbour saw me collapse on the path.
I always explain this to the gym manager who in the past has let me use the staff changing room and put signs up.
I went to the gym tonight....hair dye everywhere again. I spoke to the new manager who said she knows who is responsible but they pay to use the facilities so there is nothing they can do.
I reasoned that if I had been repeatedly told to not do something and carried on doing it then I'm sure my membership would be revoked. So why won't they take that approach.
Her whole response was "short of following them in and dragging them out, which I can't do, what do you expect me to do"
I just felt so frustrated. It's the only gym round here and it's where I go to destress and it really helps with my anxiety. But now it looks like I'll have to leave.

But bleakbetty is a homeless person really likely to be dyeing their hair? And even if they are can't they just be asked to stop. That doesnt mean they are banned from showering.

WhaleTasting · 09/04/2018 19:28

Homeless is the only thing that makes sense. I wonder if they have seen the signs, I knew the allergy was a thing but only for people actually dying their own hair. It must be scary as hell for you.

ThePinkOcelot · 09/04/2018 19:29

I can’t understand why anyone would dye their hair at the gym! Bizarre.

Is there a head office you can write to?

PuppyMonkey · 09/04/2018 19:29

I was thinking the same Miss Mary. Have only ever seen people in films do this, people who are on the run and serial killers etc. There’s your answer OP. Grin

Pusheenicorn · 09/04/2018 19:29

Are they actually dying their hair or is it just running from their hair after washing?!

I cannot believe people would dye their hair at THE GYM but my hair runs dye for about 2 weeks after I've dyed it at home when washing...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/04/2018 19:29

I used to wash my henna off in the shower (my shower at home) then spend the next 20 minutes cleaning the shower Hmm
The thought of de-hennahing and leaving the abbatoir type mess behind does appeal......but I wouldn't .

DoctorWhatTheFuck · 09/04/2018 19:30

So strange. Some very good points have been made. Either a cf who doesn’t want to mess up her bathroom, someone homeless or someone in disguise. The magic word ‘liability’ may light a fire under the management.

Undercoverbanana · 09/04/2018 19:32

Say what now?

I am very laid back and can’t get very fussed about the dos and don’t of life, but no. Just no.

I can’t really explain why, but it’s just inflicting yourself on other people isn’t it? I wouldn’t sit in the changing room and wax my southerly bits either. Is that a thing too?

Gemini69 · 09/04/2018 19:34

I've ever heard or witnessed such a thing ? this has to be deemed as inappropriate for many reasons... this is unbelievable.. Flowers

LardLizard · 09/04/2018 19:35

I’ve seen people use that sort of wash in due that you leave in for ten mins type thing
Makes a right mess and stains shower doors and tiles etc
It’s very odd

StrangeLookingParasite · 09/04/2018 19:35

Oh that's fucking ridiculous. And how can they think it's not possible to stop them?

Not the point of the thread, but I have a thing about people who trim their nails in public places. You have no idea how often I end up sitting next to the person trimming their toenails on the train. Please tell me it isn't just me who attracts them?
I was in a bookstore once with a friend when she just started clipping her nails. I didn't know what to do or where to look. I just walked away in the end, because, yuck.

never

HappyFeet1212 · 09/04/2018 19:36

I'll bet it's someone who doesn't want to dye their hair in their own bathroom because of the mess they make.

RoloAddict · 09/04/2018 19:37

Op - could you try making a complaint to the council that run the centre? Firstly about the problem itself and the managers attitude. Good luck - this sounds incredibly serious and I hope you get it sorted. The people doing it are cf's Hmm

ichifanny · 09/04/2018 19:39

There will be a COSHH policy I bet that’s not on endangering your life like that and being so flippant .

SistersOfPercy · 09/04/2018 19:40

Many years ago I was sat in the job centre when a woman appeared from the toilets with dye on her head. She proceeded to wait to be called until her 30 minutes on her hair were up and then went back in to the toilets to rinse.
Was so strange I never forgot it.

Gemini69 · 09/04/2018 19:41

but doesn't Tinting your hair involve a 20 minute process of a product on your hair.. how do they manage that then Hmm

Marcipex · 09/04/2018 19:41

Put your complaint in writing. Write to head office, or the council, whoever runs it.
Keep writing.
It's ridiculous to allow that.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/04/2018 19:42

pushieenicorn the boxes are always dumped in the bins or in other empty lockers so they are definitely dying it there.

This is ridiculous it's obviously not appropriate to dye your hair at the gym. I can't believe the gym won't ban it either. It's got to be a nightmare for them to clean too. If your safety isn't of importance to the gym then you need to find another gym. They are making it very very clear that they do not value you as a customer.
