WIBU to fly with sick ds?

I probably won't and just venting really.

Booked a last minute mine-break for us on Friday and he threw up during the night. I think it's too much chocolate and the excitement of the last few days - relatives visiting/lots of treats etc. Nothing too ridiculous but he does have form for throwing up after parties/during holidays etc. But it could be bug of course.

He's insisting he wants to still go. Flight at 12 but a two hour drive away so need to leave within the hour. No insurance (don't know if this would be covered anyway).

We have to cancel don't we Sad?

If he has form for throwing up when excited and he hasn’t been sick again I’d just go.

maskingtape · 09/04/2018 06:56

Yes you have to cancel. It would be selfish not too.

GreenMeerkat · 09/04/2018 06:57

I'd go, if he is sick again on the journey (and if it's a bug he will be), then turn round and come home.

We did this in October when DD was sick in the night. That turned out to be a big and had to turn round 5 minutes from the airport though 😩

AjasLipstick · 09/04/2018 06:57

Go. I would.

Nicknacky · 09/04/2018 06:58

Why don’t you have travel insurance?!

OneStepSideways · 09/04/2018 06:58

If he was only sick once and has no other symptoms (no nausea, abdo pain, temp or diarrhoea) I'd assume it was excitement or overindulgence and still fly. Any other symptoms and we'd cancel.

thoughtyousaidgin · 09/04/2018 06:59

If he has form for throwing up I would go.

Even if you had travel insurance I'm not sure the doctor would sign him off it was only the once.

pasturesgreen · 09/04/2018 07:01

He's had too much chocolate, you said yourself he has form for throwing up when excited, it's highly unlikely it's a bug. I'd go.

Theduchessstill · 09/04/2018 07:04

No travel insurance because it was just a short, cheap getaway and family have been here so I never got round to sorting it. Typical - the one and only time I don't get it this happens - assuming it would have been valid.

Think we'll set off and see what happens on the way.

Not having travel insurance for your children is awful.

Nicknacky · 09/04/2018 07:07

Short or cheap, things can go badly wrong when you are away.

I’m not even necessarily talking about covering this sickness, loads of things can go wrong and I don’t understand why for a few pounds people risk it.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 09/04/2018 07:08

If he often does it and he isn't sick again, no diarrhoea, no fever it is probably just the excitement. With check-in etc it is likely to be hours before you are flying and you can turn back at any point before boarding. Obviously different if they usually have a stomach of steel. One of mine can feel sick just rolling over in bed but some travel sicknesses tablets help. If it was one of the other dc I would be more concerned.

ChangingStates · 09/04/2018 07:09

If he only threw up once and seems fine, has drunk & eaten since and it has stated down I would go but be prepared to turn back if he does not seem well.

SofiaAmes · 09/04/2018 07:09

My ds used to vomit on the way to the airport every trip we went on. I learned quickly that we should just bring a puke bag and a change of clothes with us on every trip. By age 4 or 5 he could get all the puke in a bag and we didn't even need to do a clothing change. He was eventually diagnosed with mitochondrial disease at age 10 and apparently the vomiting was either cyclical vomiting or migraines.

ChangingStates · 09/04/2018 07:09

Stayed down

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 09/04/2018 07:10

Yes and sort out some travel insurance on the way. It won't cover the sickness but will cover you when away if anyone had an accident/ became really ill.

Sammy901 · 09/04/2018 07:10

You already said he has form for this and he’s overindulged abit.

I’d go, if he’s sick on the way then turn round but otherwise I’d go

Queenio24 · 09/04/2018 07:10

If you are going abroad you still have chance to buy a policy online now. It most likely won't cover you for this but if someone breaks a leg or something will cover for that.

SaucyJane · 09/04/2018 07:11

I get travel insurance with my bank account - have you checked to see if you get it with anything like that? Or buy it online now - virgin is cheap.

Otherwise I agree with PPs, if he's just been sick the once and feels ok now, set off and see how he gets on.

Theduchessstill · 09/04/2018 07:18

We're not going abroad - that's another reason I didn't get insurance.

No insurance???

WTF.

Travel insurance takes two minutes to organise.

MaverickSnoopy · 09/04/2018 07:33

If it was during the night I'd err on the side of bug. Did he have a lot of chocolate right before bedtime? When in the night was it?

Unlimtately you know your child best and if this fits with normal patterns then in your shoes I would go. I say that as a parent who has a child who occasionally gets random one off loose bowel movements linked to tiredness/doing a bit too much and are not illness related at all (queue many conversations with school who don't want her in for 48 hours).

Does it fit with normal pattern though? Because if it does then I'm wondering why you're undecided.

LolaTheDarkdestroyer · 09/04/2018 07:35

Don't be selfish.

SinceWhenDid · 09/04/2018 07:36

I agree start driving and fingers crossed he is ok.

I wouldn't have got insurance either if you're not going abroad!

TammyWhyNot · 09/04/2018 07:39

Oh, ok, flight makes everyone think ‘abroad’!
