To think someone could offer me a seat

goinggoinggonegirl · 08/04/2018 17:24

I'm on a packed train so all reservations are void. I've just run a marathon - I'm on the train wearing my medal, kit and flip flops. I can barely walk. Not a single person has offered me a seat.

AIBU to ask if I can sit down?

YANBU, just ask.

KittyVonCatsworth · 08/04/2018 17:25

You can ask but don’t expect! Well done on your achievement.

60sname · 08/04/2018 17:26

Grin at the idea of offering someone who is capable of running a marathon a seat on a train.

TheSpottedZebra · 08/04/2018 17:27

I'd stand up for old people, ill people, pregnant women, small kids who can't hold on etc, but not sure I'd feel any moral obligation to stand up for someone who's done lots of exercise.

justawhisper · 08/04/2018 17:28

Tough titty I think

Glumglowworm · 08/04/2018 17:28

Probably people think someone fit enough to run a marathon doesn’t need a seat. Just open your mouth and ask for one like a grown up.

mum11970 · 08/04/2018 17:29

Don’t be daft, the fact you chose to run 26 miles doesn’t give you automatic right to a seat. Should everyone wear a fitbit and those that have walked/run the furthest get first dibs on the seats.

flowerslemonade · 08/04/2018 17:30

I would sit in the aisle or the bit by the toilet tbh.

Tika77 · 08/04/2018 17:31

Or you can sit on the floor.

Grobagsforever · 08/04/2018 17:31

I sat on the floor post marathon...

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 08/04/2018 17:32

Have you reserved a seat? Why are reservations void?

Glug44 · 08/04/2018 17:32

Ask and you might get.

flowerslemonade · 08/04/2018 17:35

Sometimes there is free space between carriages by the window which might be nice if there is no other option but I'd roll up something to sit on maybe. Hopefully someone give you a seat though.

hibbledibble · 08/04/2018 17:40

I think most people would assume that if you are physically fit enough to run a marathon, then you are physically fit enough to stand.

You can ask.

Springnowplease · 08/04/2018 17:42

Sit on the floor. It would be very cheeky to ask for a seat.

Floralnomad · 08/04/2018 17:43

Sorry but I wouldn’t be giving up my seat for someone who had run a marathon , elderly , pregnant , disabled or ill - yes but knackered because they’ve run a marathon - no .

willynillypie · 08/04/2018 17:44

There's no moral obligation or even really social etiquette to suggest people need to give you a seat - otherwise people who have been at rugby practice, football, swimming, tennis or even just tired from the gym would all end up asking. Well done though!

TammySwansonTwo · 08/04/2018 17:52

As a disabled person who has been bent double in agony many times on public transport and only been offered a seat once, yes I think you are probably BU. Just make sure if you do ask you don’t direct it at one person - they may need the seat far more than you.

Rainboho · 08/04/2018 17:54

To me, you’re the last person that needs offering a seat!

arethereanyleftatall · 08/04/2018 17:54

You're might have more chance if you take your medal off.

Ubercornsdiscoball · 08/04/2018 17:55

Dis you book a seat? If not then just sit on the floor!

expatinscotland · 08/04/2018 17:57

Just sit on the floor.

RainbowBriteRules · 08/04/2018 18:04

Seriously? Well done on your marathon but YABU. Especially walking round with a medal thinking that means you will get a seat. I might have offered if you looked knackered but not if you still had your race number, medal etc.

OneStepSideways · 08/04/2018 18:06

I wouldn't give up my seat, if you are fit enough to run a marathon you should be capable of standing on the train or sitting on the floor?

I would give up my seat to a pregnant lady or elderly person, unless it was a long journey (I have low BP and faint if I stand too long).

Mulberry72 · 08/04/2018 18:07

YABU.
