To think someone could offer me a seat

I'm on a packed train so all reservations are void. I've just run a marathon - I'm on the train wearing my medal, kit and flip flops. I can barely walk. Not a single person has offered me a seat.

AIBU to ask if I can sit down?

I used ‘walking around’ figuratively BTW, bad choice of words for a packed train and if you can hardly walk anyway.

Trinity66 · 08/04/2018 18:07

Yes yabu

ButternutCrinkleFries · 08/04/2018 18:11

Just sit on the floor. You’re probably the healthiest person on the train ffs. The fact you’ve chosen to run 26 miles and probably guilted your friends and relations into paying for you to do so was your choice.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 08/04/2018 19:09

Seriously?! YABU.

DairyisClosed · 08/04/2018 19:12

Why should someone else give up their seat for you because you are tired from your hobby. Does this mean that I get to ask for seats when I have a long hard day?

blackteasplease · 08/04/2018 19:12

I'd sit on the floor in those circumstances I think. maybe by the loo bit or just anywhere- perhaps on your kit bag. I don't think someone needs to offer or give you a seat cos you've been exercising. Sorry.

I have a bad back and am in pain all day at jwork if I have to stand. I often sit on the floor if there are no seats tbh.

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 08/04/2018 19:12

Fuck that.

I don't scour people's outfits to

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 08/04/2018 19:14

See what they have been up to that day.

YABVVVVU!
Why should i offer my seat, that i paid for and got before you, just because you ran?
I get the elderly, the disabled and people are pregnant, but why you? People go to the gym all the time but don't expect a seat?

goinggoinggonegirl · 08/04/2018 19:18

There were no reservations because the train was packed. Nowhere to sit between carriages either so ended up standing in the aisle for three hours!

This is a windup, right?

Spangles1963 · 08/04/2018 19:26

You probably look so fit and capable, everyone thinks you are able to stand,or failing that,of sitting on the floor!
I got on a packed bus today. I am disabled, use a walking stick (arthritis in numerous joints, plus frozen shoulder and balance problems). No one offered me a seat. Everyone pretended they hadn't seen me. And before someone says it,sorry, but I don't believe that EVERY single person on that bus had a 'hidden disability'.

Changebagsandgladrags · 08/04/2018 19:31

You'd knacker your knees if you sat down for three hours after a marathon.

SerenDippitty · 08/04/2018 19:42

Did you do the marathon for charity? If so I might feel inclined to offer you a seat, but not if you’d just done it for the sake of it? Well done anyway.

HollowTalk · 08/04/2018 19:46

People are so miserable. I wouldn't sit a whole journey and let someone else stand for the whole journey. I just couldn't do it.

Tistheseason17 · 08/04/2018 19:54

This is a windup, right?
My thoughts, too...

goldentriangle · 08/04/2018 19:55

It think it's really anti social to get on busy public transport after exercise without showering. I'd get up just to move away from you.

Herbalteahippie · 08/04/2018 19:56

Why don’t you just walk home?

flowerslemonade · 08/04/2018 19:57

this reminds me of when i didn't dare ask anyone for a seat on the bus and didn't feel very well and i passed out :/

Mammyloveswine · 08/04/2018 19:57

Stealth boast... you've just ran for 26 miles.. I'd not be giving up my seat! And im.always offering my seat!

Certcert · 08/04/2018 19:57

I'm on the train wearing my medal...

Still doesn't make you royalty, I'm afraid. Well done on your race.

Aozora13 · 08/04/2018 20:01

Ha ha I pretty much always had to ask for a seat even when massively pregnant so good luck with that one! Well done on your marathon though!

iwanttobeatree1234 · 08/04/2018 20:06

Did you actually run the marathon in your flip flops?? ... Just curious.....

alibongo5 · 08/04/2018 20:11

I wouldn't sit a whole journey and let someone else stand for the whole journey. I just couldn't do it.

Why not? Unless they are demonstrably more needing of a seat than you? Tbh for a three hour journey, someone would have to be very much more in need of a seat for me to give it up. I regularly give up a seat for a shorter journey but on a long journey I book a seat and stay in it.

No way would I think to stand up for someone who had done a marathon (even if I noticed). And I don't understand why there were no reservations because the train was busy? Reservations work even when it's busy surely? They wouldn't be invalid just because the train was packed.
