Do you have an interest or hobby you are passionate about?

I have a interest which i spend my spare time and evenings doing when I have the time. I feel passionate about it and feel it enhances my life. DH has something similar. Chatting to friends I find that many don't do hobbies or interests outside work and family.
Do you? If not, why not?
And if so, do you think your life is richer because of it?
Or...am i just selfish and self indulgent?

Yes, I have a couple. I don't really talk about them all the time but I love doing them. Both are creative and I feel I need a creative outlet, one is relatively new (just over a year of doing it) but something I've wanted to do for years. This is a class so not just a creative hobby in the house. I think being creative helps me, I can get very stressed and they definitely help with that.

I'm also a gamer, so I guess that's a hobby - I only really talk online to like minded others about that.

MissPiggysKarateChop · 06/04/2018 12:51

Oh and yes, I do think my life is better for them; as an outlet, as skills and just the sheer pleasure of creating. Sometimes it is OK to be selfish and indulgent - we should all do one thing we really enjoy in my opinion (if we can).

I discovered a running club in 2015 and love it and all the new friends with a shared interest it brought to my life.

helpconfused · 06/04/2018 12:53

Pressed the button too quickly!
Wanted to say it's the only thing I do for myself. I empty my head when I run and feel that I have achieved something at the end of it.

GrannyGrissle · 06/04/2018 13:43

Gardening. Absolutely love it. Also Mumsnet and shopping on Ebay. I am very passionate about those two.

I have 3 hobbies, 2 (craft type) which have long periods of waiting around during which time I read.

I fit my work around my interests, not the other way around. Grin

GemmaB78 · 06/04/2018 19:31

Endurance riding (horse), knitting & crochet and playing instruments. Fairly creative and yes, completely enrich my life.

arethereanyleftatall · 06/04/2018 19:33

Yes, sport, and I think hobbies are vital. Not particularly for now in my forties with young children, but vital for when I'm older and dc have left.
Of all the people I know 60+, those with hobbies are loving life, those with none are not. Anecdotal but my experience.

Moominfan · 06/04/2018 19:38

Yea they get me through my working week. I love hiking, yoga, reading and powerlifting. Couldn't imagine life without

Id love to have something that i got ezcited about. Unfortunately i just dont have time. When i get a moment to.myself im so exhausted that I think about these things but never have the energy to actually do them.

Glumglowworm · 06/04/2018 19:45

Yes, I think it’s good to have hobbies, I used to do a sport (mostly solo) but now do craft and volunteer with Girl Guiding if that counts. They’ve given me something to focus on when other things in my life are a struggle and I’ve met friends through them.

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 06/04/2018 19:46

Parkrun, talking bollocks and nagging DH. I used to read voraciously but have had readers’ block for a year or so. I would like to change that

isseywithcats · 06/04/2018 19:46

Motorbike, in a club so go to that and other bike clubs every week several rallies a year, go out on club rides, go to fundraising rock nights at other clubs, bike shows , went to austria and back on the bike,

Studying and reading.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 06/04/2018 19:47

Do you? If not, why not?

No. I wish I did. I’ve never really fallen into anything and have no idea what I might like. Also restricted by finances and lack of childcare.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 06/04/2018 19:48

Grem, just send me a slice? Cake

KirstenRaymonde · 06/04/2018 19:53

@Lotsofplanetshaveanorth I had readers block for a while too, I found downloading audio books (audible) got me back into the swing of it. I could listen to a book whilst doing other things, over time I got back in the mood to sit down and read. I still like audio books but real reading is better.

Im on the hunt for hobbies. I tend to get really into something for a short time and then lose interest. I bullet journal and that wanes between something very functional and something more creative. I like to spend hours cooking things I’m making up as I go along, I guess that’s a hobby as it’s more creative than just functional meal making. I’d like to get into some other things though.
