Or is this okay for a typical days food?

Breakfast: 2 slices of Seeded toast with sunflower spread and a tiny bit of marmite. A glass of fresh orange juice (fresh).

Or

Wheatabix (2) with a little skimmed milk and low calorie sweetener sprinkled

Lunch: Usually don't eat it, but if I do, two scrambled eggs or 1 avocado, sometimes on a Davina McCall cracker

Dinner: Vegetable rice with Linda McCartney pulled chicken (not real chicken), or pasta with Quorn mince and a light sauce

Snacks options: Banana, handful of fresh berries, a passion fruit

Does this sound okay? Anything I need to add/cut back on?

If eating out, I will usually order a kid's meal chicken nuggets with chips and a blue WKD or lemonade. Maybe a chocolate brownie and ice cream for desert, or sorbet. But I don't eat out very often at all.

I'm a very fussy eater and struggle to add more variety to what I eat

Didn’t you post about this a few weeks ago? You got exactly the same responses, so you’ve obviously not took any advice on board. Why are you asking again?

CleanOnMe · 05/04/2018 22:39

My DS is 5 months x

I did post about the WKD and chicken nuggets before Grin It was in AIBU and titled AIBU to eat xyz (because I've had comments from people before).

How does this sound...

Breakfast: The usual sunflower spread and marmite with a banana and glass of fresh orange juice

Lunch: Avocado on a Davina M cracker, maybe with scrambled eggs?

Dinner: The same, but maybe Bolognese or salmon as an option too?

I am currently 10 stone 6 and 5'4. I'm trying to lose weight as I got too comfortable with my eating habits and indulged myself far too much. I was swiftly reminded that I'm now overweight

Admittedly, food is now quite boring and I often dream of more calorific stuff but stay away as I cannot be trusted to eat things sensibly! I've tried and failed. It's much easier for me to only have treats out of the house

So long as you have lunch I just think you need to add more fruit and veg into your day. You need more vitamins and fibre.

FrozenMargarita17 · 05/04/2018 22:41

I've read a post by you, I'm sure of it...

ShapelyBingoWing · 05/04/2018 22:42

I'm very happy with the flavours offered in fruit

I really can't seem to imagine this being something someone without an eating disorder would say. A few other things you've said fall under that category too OP. My advice would be to discuss your diet with a GP or dietician if you can get a fast referral. They'll be able to properly assess your requirements vs intake and your attitude towards foods far better than we can.

weneedtotalk · 05/04/2018 22:42

Not enough calories
Not enough Saturated fat
Not enough monounsaturated fats
I’ve not looked into the ingredients of the meat substitutes but I’d be concerned about your essential amino acids.

Add:
Nuts
Spinach
Fish
Increase portion sizes
What is it in the dairy that disagrees with you? Have you had this tested?

Bambamber · 05/04/2018 22:43

You absolutely do not need dairy when breastfeeding. My DD has CMPA and there's absolutely no concern for either of us being dairy free. What you do need is calcium. There's lots of dairy alternatives that are fortified with calcium. We use dairy free sunflower spread, oatley milk (and oatley creme fraiche for cooking), and koko yogurt.

Breastfeeding does use up a good few calories so you do need to account for that. Too little calories can begin to affect your supply. You're not eating a lot, and you're not getting a lot of variety. But you know that.

Just think if you would be happy if you found out it was your child in your situation eating that diet. Would you be completely happy and supportive or would you be concerned? You need to lead by example.

betterbemoreorganised · 05/04/2018 22:45

If you’re cutting dairy out when you’re breastfeeding you should ask your GP for calcium tablets
With regard to quantity of food eaten I can’t believe you’re managing to breastfeed on so few calories, I’d have collapsed on that calorie intake

Ollivander84 · 05/04/2018 22:47

I love dairy but recently tried Oatly barista and it was SO good. It's like v creamy oats but not as strong tasting as say porridge if that makes sense?
Or dark chocolate almond milk is really good especially heated up (blue diamond brand)

LizzieDarcy1907 · 05/04/2018 22:48

Sounds similar to my diet OP. But I'm eating around 800 cals a day for 8 weeks to get my diabetes under control. It's fecking miserable.

Fruitcorner123 · 05/04/2018 22:48

You absolutely do not need dairy when breastfeeding.

Fair enough but you need alternatives for the calcium.

Schnauzermum2 · 05/04/2018 22:50

Sorry missed the fact you’re breast feeding. Definitely up the veg and fruit. You need more fat. Who the hell reminded you you were overweight at 10 stone 6?

OohMavis · 05/04/2018 22:51

Fuck me, you're breastfeeding?

EAT!

OohMavis · 05/04/2018 22:52

Your calorie deficit must be shocking. You're going to make yourself ill Shock

Are you not starving hungry?

Enko · 05/04/2018 22:52

op have a look at this plan Personally I think you have good basis (apart from the nuggets) but far to little of it especially if breastfeeding.

Fruitcorner123 · 05/04/2018 22:53

Ive just plugged your weight and height into a bmi calculator and your bmi is 24.7 which is healthy. If your weight is reducing slowly thats fine. You gave birth a few months ago and its normal to put on weight and then take a while to lose it.

Please make sure you are having at least 2ooo calories.

You are not overweight and skipping lunch when breastfeeding is irresponsible.

artichokehearts · 05/04/2018 22:53

Not any veg in your diet examples. do you eat and veg or salad? Try for at least a couple of portions a day then with 3 fruit snacks you’ll hit your 5 a day. Veg is important for fibre as well as getting variety of nutrients.

I’d also skip the artificial sweetener - use a sweetener like honey or date syrup if you don’t like sugar.

I can’t tolerate much dairy because of lactose so I take calcium tablets. I would certainly make sure you have these when breastfeeding to protect your bones.

Coconut milk based ice cream is yummy if you have not tried it, give it a go! I use orange juice on cereal as don’t like any of the non dairy milks.

Jestem · 05/04/2018 22:57

Shock at the poster who couldn't possibly eat two eggs in one sitting, wtf that's something like 150-200 calories (ie not a lot)!

OP's diet is not good - too little of it and what there is is not particularly nutrient dense, especially if you're breastfeeding.

Disagree that you need dairy to breastfeed - why would you? However, a healthy diet is pretty important if you are cutting out major food groups in that way, to compensate for calcium, iodine etc etc

FairiesVsPixies · 05/04/2018 22:57

What's with the Davina M cracker? Can't you have normal/full fat crackers and a bag of Doritos?
I'd be chewing my arm off breastfeeding on that.

trickyex · 05/04/2018 23:00

How about porridge for breakfast with fruit coulis/sliced banana and nut butter?
Flapjacks are good snacks, make them and add dried apricots/toasted nut or seeds or just almond or peanut butter.
Sliced apple with nut butter is tasty and filling and full of good stuff.
Add veg to your evening meal, eg wilted spinach with butter and lemon juice, steamed broccoli/carrots/cauliflower/beans.
Roasted sweet potato is easy and tastes great. Fruit sorbet is a nice light pudding.
Loads of good ideas on pinterest.

Fruitcorner123 · 05/04/2018 23:00

Disagree that you need dairy to breastfeed - why would you

I accept that. I am following slimming world at the moment and I have to eat extra portions for breastfeeding from a list of food which includes milk and cheese it does include other foods too but I end up drinking a glass of milk and either grating cheese over my food or eating a lump of cheese at the end of the day. I assume it's the calcium thats important.

CleanOnMe · 05/04/2018 23:01

Fruit I'm definitely overweight, my BMI says I am too so not sure where you're getting from that I'm in a healthy weight range?

I definitely need to add more to my diet vitamin wise but I struggle, I really do not like vegetables at all.

I love fruit but it's full of sugar. Good sugar, but not quite as good for you as a lot of veggies

I say I am a fussy eater but I'm never afraid to try anything. I try anything at all. No problem. It's just that I rarely like it

Vickxy · 05/04/2018 23:01

Agree with others, its not enough when breastfeeding. I know it must be hard to try and up your intake when you are not hungry though, I found it pretty hard to eat an extra 500 calories when I was (briefly) breastfeeding.

LanaorAna2 · 05/04/2018 23:02
  1. You don't need to lose weight.
  2. You're not eating enough.
  3. A lot of people on these food threads will have eating problems themselves, so be careful what you read.
CleanOnMe · 05/04/2018 23:03

Lana My BMI is over, not on target or under so I do need to lose a few pounds at the very least

I understand and can accept that my current diet isn't nutritionally dense enough though
