To think it's not moral to knowingly sell products to people

OutofSyncGirl · 05/04/2018 21:53

That you know they won't need or are bad value for money? I know it's necessary part of many jobs to sell things but when does it become wrong?

I know people can say know but some are vulnerable eg. Old people.

Their marine cream is shite as is the other over priced stuff they sell.

I can’t stand going near an elemis counter because the staff spout ‘scientific facts’ that they haven’t got a clue about.

speakout · 06/04/2018 06:36

I love my ALDI moisturisers.

londonrach · 06/04/2018 06:46

Not tried the aldi one speakout. Is it as good as the ldll one.

TheMaddHugger · 06/04/2018 06:46

I do like the Aldi moisturisers.

But I keep going back to my Castor Oil and Jojoba oil blend.. mix 50/50 as a night cream. Magical. Under $10 lasts a year.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/04/2018 06:52

I prefer Temple Spa and Espa personally.

Your post absolutely reads as an ad for Elemis. If you didn’t want it to be, you shouldn’t have started banging on about it for the past billionty posts. And you’re still going on about it now. If you don’t want it to be a beauty debate, get it back on track by not responding. You do have a choice to ignore posts, you know.

speakout · 06/04/2018 06:52

ondonrach I prefer the ALDI ones. They do a range of different types. I use the Lacura Soy Day and Night creams for Mature skin ( £1.69)

The Caviar range ( £6.99) is amazing for when I want to spoil myself.

outofmydepth45 · 06/04/2018 06:54

So what your saying is you went to Elimis training they said it was the best thing ever. You have completely brought into this and now bang on about it yourself.

Ps the frangepan smells awful

AuntieStella · 06/04/2018 06:58

I thought this might have been about cowboy builders, unsolicited drive repairers etc, who really do cause horrible problems.

Not which expensive face cream - both items of OP's choice for an example are very overpriced and do nothing different to the basic ranges (other than better packaging and parfum)

The Aldi range is very good, as are Superdrug own brand.

It would be interesting to have a 'blind' trial, and see if people really could tell which was the expensive brand.

runningoutofjuice · 06/04/2018 07:04

Elemis products say anti-ageing not anti premature ageing, is that not mis-selling to naive buyers? Although anyone who considers spending £80 on a face cream is not just naive but mad also. Shock

londonrach · 06/04/2018 07:08

I have used the superdrug one in a silver long container. Was £7 on a buy one get free. Good but more pricy than my ldll one. Might try aldi thanks speakout

londonrach · 06/04/2018 07:11

Sorry £80! Thats alot of money for cream. Is it made of gold. Its kinda ill moral selling something that costs more than most weekly shops but if someone wants to spend £80 on something they could spend £1.99 on thats there choice.

UpperWallop · 06/04/2018 07:12

You need to up your game op. Your proposition/justification skills are dire.

RoadToRivendell · 06/04/2018 07:19

I'm amused that you'd consider Elemis an exception to the predatory nature of capitalism, because it genuinely works.

Their.

GlacindaTheTroll · 06/04/2018 07:26

i know people can say know but some are vulnerable eg. Old people.

I wouldn't really class anyone who spends £80 on a face cream as remotely vulnerable!!

londonrach · 06/04/2018 07:27

Lol..miaow. I dont get this looking a different age as most people look their age or if not its down to jeans (sorry dyslexic and cant spell the other jean), medication someone is on and life style choice. Eg. If you smoke it doesnt matter what cream you put on you will look alot older than you are. At £80 i expect the cream to put its self on and give you a massage at the same time. Why would anyone spend that much. Still their choice as its their money.

Emmageddon · 06/04/2018 07:29

I prefer Nivea, thanks all the same OP. Poor attempt at stealth advertising though.

I like simply :)

GrumpyOldMare · 06/04/2018 07:42

''But you won't find many people who don't love their marine cream''

Cream for marine life?
Didn't know that was a ''thing''

Seriously though,I've not heard of it,but then I only ever use Superdrug's coconut oil.Cheap, effective and smells gorgeous. Lasts forever too.
Okay it doesn't help with the signs of aging, premature or not but I really don't want to look in my twenties when I'm nearly halfway through my fifties.

TheMaddHugger · 06/04/2018 07:47

SharronNeedles Yes, fab range of skin care. It's one of my Faves along with the Aldi ones.

I dont give two hoots about looking younger. I just want to look my best.
I earnt every one of these 'Lifelines'

Hypermice · 06/04/2018 07:48

I’m a scientist. elemis is stuff smells lovely but is no more efficacious than generic 3.99 Nivea. Or diprobase, or any general emulsified fat moisturiser.
The toss they spout about free radicals etc is utter, utter bollocks. No it doesn’t protect against anything like pollution. Anything with sunscreen in is a good idea. That’s aboit it. All the science, the twirly DNA molecules, the breathless excitement about ‘phyto’ this that and the other. All bollocks.

The pseudoscience that’s allowed around the marketing of cosmetic products is quite staggering. It’s a source of bemusement, hilarity and annoyance amongst scientists. I still think this is one of the funniest sketches ever - ^this is MY laboratoire!!’

@GrumpyOldMare You just reminded me I was doing a coconut oil Yogurt and honey hair mask tonight.

Summerisdone · 06/04/2018 07:50

I used to work for a major mobile company, as sales in a call centre, and I could never bring myself to push a sale on an elderly person or someone who seemed vulnerable if it wasn't something that would benefit them.
We did have strict rules on doing this anyway, but many would find loopholes based on how they worded things, yet I just couldn't have ever done it.
