To think we have to share our discount with everyone

We're going somewhere this weekend with several other family's. We earn by far the most but also get it half price as work for the nhs. We have to buy as a group and share our discount. Equally right?

So, say it costs £50 each you get it for £25, and if there are another 4 people total is £250, divided by 6 = £42 each. So you're paying £17 more than you would if you kept your discount to yourself?
I wouldn't expect a friend to pay extra to make it cheaper for me. If you weren't there they'd have to pay full whack.

MakeItRain · 05/04/2018 21:56

I don't know, if I were going away with some families to a place, and one family were getting a discount for working for the NHS, I wouldn't dream of asking/ expecting them to share that discount. I'd probably think, good for them, they do a tough job.

NapQueen · 05/04/2018 21:57

If you dont offer them your discount would you be profiting?

Either way if one person is booking for everyone why wouldnt the person who gets the discount book for everyone then get the cash off people (at the cheaper rate obvs)?

I dont understand why you being the.high earner is at all relevant.

Lucked · 05/04/2018 21:58

No you can't offset the your costs against a discount applied to the total costs of the whole group.

NapQueen · 05/04/2018 21:58

Oh is it not a whole group discount?

Amanduh · 05/04/2018 21:59

Well is it like a £35 discount and you share it out... or is it 50% off for everyone? If it’s half price fo however many tickets you buy, why wouldn’t you share it? You get the same discount and so do your friends?

My teaching union gives half price entry to all Merlin attractions, so if I bought ten tickets we’d all pay half price, if I bought one we’d get half price...

UpOver · 05/04/2018 21:59

I need to know the details before giving my verdict 💁🏻

PattiStanger · 05/04/2018 22:00

I don't understand what you're asking.

Are you stating that you have to buy as group or asking if that's the right thing to do?

You need to provide a bit more information - what are the rules on using the discount?

lrjsng · 05/04/2018 22:01

I wish it wasa holiday! its just an attraction, you need id for the discount per person else of course we would get everyoje the discount

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 05/04/2018 22:02

I am confused too.
If you can share the discount, so your whole group benefits from it, why on earth wouldn't you?

If you can't, and it works out a lot cheaper for you, then no, of course not.

How much other people earn is completely irrelevant, unless they are your own children or your parents.

DextroDependant · 05/04/2018 22:02

It depends on how the discount is applied as PP have said.

If It makes no difference to the price you pay then you should definitely let everyone else in on it.

Amanduh · 05/04/2018 22:04

Well if you get the discount individually with your id then no I wouldn’t share it.

So if you’re in a group of five and all pay say £50 each to get in..and you get in for £25... you’ll give four mates a fiver each?
I wouldn’t want/expect you too either.

Appuskidu · 05/04/2018 22:05

Why don’t you actually explain carefully what it is you are talking about so we understand and can give you some sensible answers?!

OOMG · 05/04/2018 22:05

Well if you need ID then surely it’s irrelevant as they wouldn’t be able to get a discount anyway so you don’t have to share it?

Theimpossiblegirl · 05/04/2018 22:05

I would always go online and look for a discount code- can you do that for the rest of the group too?
If it was me, I'd use my discount but then buy the ice-creams/coffee so I felt we all paid the same.

Weezol · 05/04/2018 22:07

If they haven't got NHS ID then they don't qualify for the discount. I don't see where the confusion is.

PattiStanger · 05/04/2018 22:08

I still don't understand the problem, surely you go to the ticket office, show your ID and get the discount.

The other people also go to the tciket office and pay whatever their price is - where is your dilemma?

Quartz2208 · 05/04/2018 22:10

Whenever we got with other families we queue and then go to the ticket office separately. If it were me and you could buy enough tickets for everyone on the discount great if not its fine just for you

Its not a big deal

WatchoutDSisdriving · 05/04/2018 22:10

I also don’t see why you should pay more so that other people get it cheaper. Which is what would happen if the usual price is £50, you get it at £25 and you all split the total cost.

I don’t think you need to share it.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 05/04/2018 22:11

I think the way you’ve described it each family should buy separately and use any discount they might have themselves. Different if you could also get discount tickets for all in the party but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

GabsAlot · 05/04/2018 22:11

no they need id so wouldnt get it anyway so whats the problem

WeirdyMcBeardy · 05/04/2018 22:14

What others said. You can't share discount if you have to show NHS ID. It's awkward to advise though as you aren't being very forthcoming with any actual information.

missbonita · 05/04/2018 22:19

Does it work that say the price is normally £20 each and 10 of you going, 2 are half price so total cost 8x£20 +2x£10 = £180 as opposed to £200? In which case I would charge everyone £18.

NapQueen · 05/04/2018 22:20

Hang on......

So say 10 people, 1 is you with discount, you get 50% off your ticket.

Unless its a grand each to get in is it even worth splitting the discount out?

Inertia · 05/04/2018 22:23

So you are all going to (say) the Turnip Museum. You get your ticket for £5 rather than £10. Everyone else pays £ 10 and you give them 50p each - is that what you’re getting at? I don’t think that will work in practice.

If it’s a percentage discount that you can apply across everyone’s fee it would make sense to share.
