Who have had a hip replacement.

It just seems a bit - I know most on the NHS don’t get chemo over 80 and my dad had to fight a bit for a joint replacement at 82.

I don’t mean to sound mean but I dunno maybe IABU as he probably fucked his hip on all those walkabouts - and obvs a fraction of the wedding.

I am not anti Royal I just was a bit perplexed.

Considering hes never done a hard proper days work since he married the richest woman in the country

GrinGrinSo,a hard days work,or a proper days work - definitions? What kind of job do you need to do to qualify for this accolade?? I wouldn't want to have done Prince Philip's schedule of engagements, until the age when he did actually retire.
There this puritanical attitude to work sometimes - if you have enough money to live without paid work, what's the big deal? But Prince Philip has worked both as a naval officer and in his capacity as the Queens husband.

Amanduh · 06/04/2018 23:26

I’d say you should probably do some more research in to the Royal Family and their money. Paid for by the taxpayer 😂

5foot5 · 07/04/2018 00:03

But where did they get a hip donor at such short notice?

PerfectlyDone · 07/04/2018 00:06

Titanium, ceramic and cement are all available without a donor.

Confused

Am I the only one who has wondered (given his form Wink) what he may have come out with under the influence of morphine? Grin

Wouldn’t have minded being a fly on the wall!

fuzzyduck33 · 07/04/2018 00:34

My aunt had a hip replacement with an epidural and said it was the best thing ever, so maybe they won't have to knock him out?

Schnauzermum2 · 07/04/2018 06:54

Fingers crossed he is up and about soon. I always thinks it’s weird he never seems to get any visitors in hospital

RedDwarves · 07/04/2018 07:01

I worked in aged care for a long time. You'd be surprised the seemingly excessive extremes they go to to keep people alive and functioning.

I knew several people in their mid-late 90s who had pacemakers put in, hip replacements, knee reconstructions etc.

I don't agree with it personally, and am generally against the idea of prolonging the life of someone who, without serious medical intervention, would otherwise die a natural death. But I appreciate that the families of those 97 year olds rarely feel the same.

Fuckingitupforfree · 07/04/2018 07:32

Did someone really think that hips are donated and transplanted?

5plusMeAndHim · 07/04/2018 07:50

Redwarves. But hip and knee replacements aren't keeping people alive, they are just making people more comfortable. You don't think people should be made more comfortable after a certain age!! Shock comfortable

ferntwist · 07/04/2018 08:12

He definitely had a general anaesthetic. The palace put out a statement confirming that on Wednesday.

Mightymucks · 07/04/2018 08:15

If he didn’t have it done on the NHS then who paid for it

I imagine Brenda took one of her crowns to cash converters to get the readies.

headstone · 07/04/2018 08:20

He is in good health so I don't see the problem as it will improve his quality of life. The NHS is a funny thing really. I know a 97 year old who was successfully resuscitated then given some cardiac device, maybe a pace maker. Another old lady on the ward was refused a similar cardiac device and was put on end of life care. I do wonder how they make these decisions.

GnotherGnu · 07/04/2018 08:48

Considering hes never done a hard proper days work since he married

Define a hard proper day's work. Apart from the years in the navy, I'd hate a job where, even if I was feeling a bit rough, I would have to travel around potentially on several engagements a day where I had to be polite and smiley to a load of strangers, brief myself on whatever it was I was visiting/opening no matter how dull, make sure I appeared fascinated by it and could ask intelligent questions about it,I'd have to change several times a day, and was constantly on show. To say nothing of having to carry on doing that job till the age of 94.

Best image is the OT whose gone round the Buckingham Palace to raise the chairs and toilet seats.

Ha, I also thought to myself "wonder if the Queen went round measuring the height of his bed and his chair"!

But where did they get a hip donor at such short notice?

^This made me laugh! (My hip joint is ceramic). You can, however, donate your old hip joint to the bone registry (which I had no idea existed before I was asked to donate during my pre-op). They can use it in bone grafts/reconstructive surgery etc.

If Prince Philip was in anything like the grinding pain I suffered before my hip replacement, he has my every sympathy.
