To just call in sick?

Boss is off. Half the office is off. No students (work at a university office) no work to do. Workmates are work shy twats who will spend the day moaning about wanting to go home and doing dance routines to Justin Bieber (this actually happened yesterday)

My house is a mess. Not had me time in aaagees.

WIBU to call in sick and have a day if getting on top of house and bit of chill time?

SparkleBuns · 05/04/2018 07:52

Life’s too short. Call in sick.

MrsJayy · 05/04/2018 07:55

Sounds like you need to jobhunt sounds miserable if you really can't face it go sick.

Twinkie1 · 05/04/2018 07:55

YABU you aren't sick so why be dishonest.

ilovesooty · 05/04/2018 07:56

And you call your colleagues work shy twats?

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/04/2018 07:56

Go in easy day of doing not much if no one else is

PurpleDaisies · 05/04/2018 07:56

Don’t call in sick. You’re not.

orangesmartieseggs · 05/04/2018 07:57

It might be frowned upon but I would be so tempted!

WashYourPanda · 05/04/2018 07:57

I'd go in just so that I could learn the Bieber routine

liquidgold5 · 05/04/2018 07:58

Phone in sick

SparkleBuns · 05/04/2018 07:59

Thing is its a good place to work when it's busy. Going to have to start planning my holidays better I guess!

They are work shy twats. I'm only tempted because there is actually no work to do so I'll be stuck at a desk for 8 hours doing nothing productive when I have a house needing attention

You're right through it is dishonest. I'll go in.

pulls on big girl panties with a sigh

HollaHolla · 05/04/2018 08:00

I just want to know what area of a uni you work in to be so quiet just now?! I’m just jealous. We’re run off our feet....

ggirl · 05/04/2018 08:00

Can't you take annual leave day instead?
Surely doesn't matter if boss not there to approve it? Would be able to approve it when they come back.

AverageSnowflake · 05/04/2018 08:01

Only on MN are people this weird about calling in sick! IRL you'd tell a friend to definitely do it, but on MN it's a crime.

You should do it OP. Wink

hidinginthenightgarden · 05/04/2018 08:01

I would

SparkleBuns · 05/04/2018 08:02

@HollaHolla it's a specific area of student funding. We're right in between years so this year's applications don't open until next month

OP posts:
DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 05/04/2018 08:02

Can't see why they are work shy twats. If there is no work to do, as you say, what's up with pissing about and doing a dance routine.

If you want to ring in sick, do it, but there is no need to be mean about your colleagues, who ARE in work, just trying to make the day go quicker.

SparkleBuns · 05/04/2018 08:05

@DannyLaRuesBestFrock I wouldn't call them work shy twats based on this quiet period alone. They rarely work the rest of the time either even during busy periods and then moan about being understaffed to management

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 05/04/2018 08:07

I wouldn't tell a friend IRL to do it.
Only on Mumsnet have I discovered so many dishonest people.

Anyway the OP has realised it would be dishonest and is going in
In her position I'd be frustrated too and would be considering planning annual leave in future.

PringlesPirate · 05/04/2018 08:07

I would go into work and be a bit social. It’s money for nothing and save your sick and annual leave for other times.

I know it’s frustrating when you think of all the things you could be doing. And yy to planning annual leave better next year

Chocolatecake12 · 05/04/2018 08:13

Go in and spend the time writing lists of what needs to be done at home, shopping lists etc.
Can you sort out your desk? Re-arrange the office?
I agree with pp that phoning in sick isn’t really appropriate in this instance but an annual leave day would be. Surely there’s someone who can approve it?

WhateverTakesYaFancy · 05/04/2018 08:14

I wouldn’t. If there is no work to do, go in and have a relaxed day. Do some life admin - phone calls, emails, pay bills, online food shop etc. Look online for some online training you can do. Tidy out drawers, clean your desk.

It’s not worth using up sick leave for this.

Pikehau · 05/04/2018 08:14

Well done for going in. One day you’ll be sick and it will Be busy and if you are not a “Work shy twat” you will feel guilty for pulling a sick day today.

If it’s a nice day have a nice chilled lunch outside and soak up some sun. Go for a walk.

Do some personal admin if all work finished. Prep for busy period - tidy your drawer /desk (mine is always full of crap) etc etc
