Away to move into a 3 bed detached house (built 2014 so newish)

Just wondering what people in similar houses are for their gas/leccy?

We have a 4 bed built in the mid 80s. Double glazing, decent boiler. £92 a month for dual fuel.

lauryloo · 03/04/2018 14:34

4 bed detached here and we pay £70 a month for electric and have oil heating which costs about £50 a month

19lottie82- that's good! We have 3 bedroom semi and pay £110 for both but that's on a cheap 1 year fix and will soon go up to £130. Must shop around!

OddestSock · 03/04/2018 14:40

We’ve got a 3 bed semi, it’s £84 a month for gas / electric

candlefloozy · 03/04/2018 14:45

We have same size house. Built in the 50s I believe and we look at about £90 a month for both

19lottie82 · 03/04/2018 14:45

Falcon I always shop around at the end of my fix. We use Eon at the moment.

FuzzyPenguin · 03/04/2018 14:47

3 bed corner town house about 12 years old. £75 a month for both.
It’s very well insulated

SluttyButty · 03/04/2018 14:47

Three bed semi, relatively new build over three floors. We pay £110 a month, elec is £60 and gas £50. They've said we're overpaying so may get our monthly dd reduced.

FuzzyPenguin · 03/04/2018 14:48

Forgot to add that’s with Eon

FutureMrsTempah · 03/04/2018 14:58

3 bed 1920's terrace and we spend £70 a month for gas and electric together.
Maybe my dp is right when he says I'm miserly with the heating! We're with EDF on a price fix

19lottie82 · 03/04/2018 15:00

As I said we are £92 a month but there’s 4 of us inc 2 teenagers and we don’t think twice about putting the heating on if it gets a bit chilly.

Therunecaster · 03/04/2018 15:40

5 bed detached. Open plan downstairs. £124, 12 month deal with Ovo. 6 of us live here on the coast, up North. Cold even on a sunny day!

Astrid2 · 03/04/2018 15:42

3 bed semi detached new build 2014 as well. We pay DD £73 a month for gas and electricity.

Schroedingerscatagain · 03/04/2018 15:44

10 year old 3 bed detached well insulated heat on in the day as always home

£78 month for both with ovo who are fantastic, they have a great reputation here on mumsnet

kimanda · 03/04/2018 15:48

@StormCloakNord

About £85 a month - £40 gas and £45 leccie. (3 bed semi.) Early 80's... New-ish heating system though (Put in, in 2011.)

My pal lives in a 1990 three-bed semi too, with the original boiler and heating system.... (So it's nearly 30 years old.....) Her gas bill is more than double mine.... £90 a month. Just for the gas!

If yours is newbuild though. Your bills should be low-ish, coz of new heating system/new boiler/good insulation (hopefully...)

hidinginthenightgarden · 03/04/2018 15:49

We are in a 5 year old 3 bed terrace and I think we pay around £70 a month combined. We used so little last year, we were owed money as we needed so little heating.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 03/04/2018 15:52

Large two bedroomed converted flat (house built in 1737, sash windows, no double glazing). Gas/electricity £50 a month average but I like it being cold so don't use much heating.

StormcloakNord · 03/04/2018 15:56

Thanks guys! Just trying to get a rough idea, sounds like I'll be under the £100 mark anyway which is good news for budgeting! Grin

@lobsterquadrille2

A flat in a converted building, built in the 1700's? Shock

That sounds fucking lovely! Grin

DrCoconut · 03/04/2018 16:03

1920's 3 bed terrace. We pay £135 a month. I got that price by switching to bulb. British Gas wanted over £200 a month 😱. I'm getting the boiler/radiators investigated to see if there is a fault as the house is still cold despite the bill being big. We have loft insulation.

kimanda · 03/04/2018 16:03

Yes OP, should be under £100 a month for the 2 combined. Especially in a new house. Smile

Lobsterquadrille2 · 03/04/2018 16:07

@kimanda

Thank you! I love it but there are downsides .... the roof probably needs replacing etc. I can understand why people choose modern builds in some ways. Smile

mrsm43s · 03/04/2018 16:07

We're in a 4/5 bed 1930s semi, and we pay £65 for electric and £50 for gas each month. We're only heat the house to 16 degrees though, and only for a few hours a day - temps have regularly dropped to 12 degrees throughout the day. If we had the house heated to a nice constant 20 degrees throughout the day, I reckon our gas usage would at least double. We have a new condensing boiler, but our insulation won't be as good as a new build. I think under £100 all in is a tight budget for a 3 bed detached- but doable as long as you keep an eye on your usage.

Quandary2018 · 03/04/2018 16:14

3 bed semi built in the 80s, I pay £64 a month dual fuel- £25 electric and £39 for gas with eon
