To wonder if AIBU is full of anti labour & anti Lib Dem fake news

Logged into AIBU this morning to find an anti labour- anti Corbyn post and an anti Lib Dem post. As mumsnet is considered quite influencial, is it becoming a hunting ground for fake news and Tory propaganda. I find it all a bit disturbing to be honest - Aibu

As mumsnet is considered quite influencial

Spat my coffee out and laughed at that!

MissionItsPossible · 02/04/2018 11:10

Why is people having a different opinion to you ‘disturbing’? YABU.

EasterRobin · 02/04/2018 11:11

I think it's anti crappy politicians in general. Feel free to add a new "aren't Tory's terrible" thread... There's plenty of examples to choose from.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/04/2018 11:11

YABU. There’s a lot wrong with the libdems, and a lot lot lot wrong with Corbyn, so it needs to be discussed. Nothing wrong with the threads appearing amongst breastfeeding, mil problems etc. I like the fact politics is discussed brashly on here.

Timeforachange2018 · 02/04/2018 11:12

It’s not nescessarily that it’s a different view point- it’s that I think it’s become a useful audience!

sarcasmisnotthelowestformofwit · 02/04/2018 11:13

do you only approve of anti Tory posts OP?

Timeforachange2018 · 02/04/2018 11:13

Maybe I have missed the anti- Tory threads!!

OP posts:
Timeforachange2018 · 02/04/2018 11:15

It’s not that I approve of one or the other- it’s a general comment that mumsnet is prime territory if you wanted to get your ideas accross- especially as Corbyn is currently all over the news.

OP posts:
Trumpdump · 02/04/2018 11:17

If you disagree, then debate them?

LifeBeginsAtGin · 02/04/2018 11:45

There are plenty of anti Tory threads and calls to 'hang your head in shame'

But is Corbyn, Abbott etc, and the state of the Labour party acceptable? Are they a credible oppostition? They are just a joke really, boyed up by Momentum.

As a Tory I would love to see the return of Ed Milliband!

YouTheCat · 02/04/2018 11:47

There are local elections coming up soon so all the torybots will be out in force.

UpstartCrow · 02/04/2018 11:48

YABVU. I can no longer vote Labour, that does not mean I will vote Tory.

Politics is now a farce. When all political parties have been hijacked by activists with the same agenda, the appearance of choice becomes a lie.

Firstworddinosaur · 02/04/2018 11:49

YANBU

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/04/2018 11:51

YANBU. I have suspected shills/bots for a good while. Run up to EU referendum was particularly telling.

WhalesOfYore · 02/04/2018 12:11

Looks like diversity of opinion isn't your thing then?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 02/04/2018 12:13

I think the problem is disingenuous posts not diversity.

Timeforachange2018 · 02/04/2018 12:22

No matter what anyone says- politicians will see any large demographic of people (as in parents on here) as important and in this age of fake news and trolling (which goes on a lot on here including by journalists) it wouldn’t surprise me at all if some of the posts on here are solely to influence opinion and garner support

OP posts:
thecatfromjapan · 02/04/2018 12:23

The Conservatives have, finally, got round to setting up a social media action group (which I guess could be called a 'troll factory' or an 'on-line media wing' depending on where you stand on these things) having seen the success of the Momentum counterpart - and, crucially, the success of the on-line Leave campaign.

It would be odd if they don't turn up here. However, I think it would also be silly to think that other groups don't turn up here, too.

So - general warning - retain your criticality. We're living in times when social media is developing, we have to think about what it is we're looking at, and what it is we're contributing to.

Timeforachange2018 · 02/04/2018 12:28

And I referred to labour and Lib Dem as they were the ones I saw this morning. And for the record, I don’t vote for any of the 3 mentioned parties and vote for a small party because of where I live

OP posts:
SnowJokeAnymore · 02/04/2018 12:30

There are disingenuous posters.

It doesn't stop threads throwing up interesting view points and stories.

UnicornRainbowColours · 02/04/2018 12:32

Haha so basically your saying that someone being anti labour should be allowed on Mumsnet..haha I vote conservative no propaganda just what I vote...

SaucyJane · 02/04/2018 12:33

Anyone who bases their vote on what they've read on mumsnet shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Fortunately I suspect that is nobody.

SnowJokeAnymore · 02/04/2018 12:34

In was accused in a Brexit " let's get on with it" type of post of being a Russian bot( I think!)

If someone thinks that it doesn't bother me but it does make me think that they are not hearing the other side irl.

I still try to hear views in the real world, it does get too polarised on line.

thecatfromjapan · 02/04/2018 12:35

This is a nice guide to dealing with on-line trolls C4News and the fact it's been put together tells us what a problem it is.

A poster on another thread linked to an absolutely brilliant US one, which pointed out that the best response was to get involved, politically.

If I have time, I'll have a look for it. I thought it was fascinating because it really does tell you that this is a significant change in the political and information landscape - and we need to develop ways of dealing with it.

Timeforachange2018 · 02/04/2018 12:37

@unicorn no, I am saying that sometimes I wonder if the posts on here are fake. It applies to the anti- Tory ones too but it was the anti Corbyn one that I saw this morning. As I have also said, I don’t vote for any of them so have no political interest. I didn’t phrase my OP very well either!!
