To ask how you got your overdue baby out?

Posting mainly for traffic.

It's my second and I'm really unsure if he's back to back with me at the moment. I'm having just waves of pain for the past two days but it's in my lower back and it's agony. But I have been suffering with sciatica this pregnancy 🤔 so it could be that.

Hes 3 days overdue now and I can feel him ready to come just nothings happening and I'm in so much pain. I'm worried about being induced etc as I've not heard many pleasant stories about it.
What did you do to help ease on an overdue baby? He's a big boy and at 39w the midwife said he was measuring 41 Confused my dd came a day overdue and I always thought the second was always early :(

Nothing worked for me I'm afraid, in the end i had to be induced at 41weeks+6 days.

Apparently walking and sex works the best though.

Ducktalesooooh · 01/04/2018 13:13

A sweep. A four mile walk. A hot curry. Sex.

He arrived two days later

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 01/04/2018 13:13

Walking. Doing as much walking around as you can bear should help gravity help him out.

Amanduh · 01/04/2018 13:13

Nothing and I tried it all!

ItchySeveredFoot · 01/04/2018 13:14

Both my dds were late. 13 days and 4 days. Nothing helped the first time including 2 sweeps. Had a sweep with Dd2 and then walked round tesco for ages, had a relaxing bath with essential oils and then went into labour during the night. Apparently being relaxed is key.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 01/04/2018 13:16

Hoovering got things going for me more than once!!

Whitelisbon · 01/04/2018 13:17

I tried everything with dc2 - those slides at soft play with the bumps on them? Don't work, and lead to the staff asking you nicely to leave and not come back until baby has been born. Blush

He eventually made an appearance at 42+3, after 2 days of induction and a threat of a c section. The midwife threatened to call cave rescue at one point Grin

PastaSauceHoarder · 01/04/2018 13:17

I had a sweep and then went for a really long walk - she eventually came out after over thirty hours of labour, the little monkey!

Mrscog · 01/04/2018 13:19

Sex worked for both of mine - 24 hours from shag to baby both times.

ShowOfHands · 01/04/2018 13:19

Nothing. They come when they're ready. No scientific evidence for any of it. Induction is a choice and you can't be forced into it.

Remember, a normal pregnancy is 37-42 weeks so you're not overdue really. In fact, in France, they set the "due date" at 41 weeks. It's arbitrary really.

"I had sex and gave birth two days later" is conflating two events in error. Zillions more women have sex and don't go into labour. And why the sex? Why not, I ate quiche and had the baby 2 days later or I did a crossword. Or I napped. Or I watched Pride and Prejudice. It's not cause and effect, it's coincidence.

Try and get as comfortable as possible and do things that make you happy.

cheshiremama89 · 01/04/2018 13:19

Walking up the stairs sideways!

Could be coincidence but I went into labour that night!

JackieReacher · 01/04/2018 13:21

Vigorous hoovering (back to back, 2 weeks late)

Homemadearmy · 01/04/2018 13:22

Aside from the first mine were all 9/10 days late. Tried everything sex, sweep walking etc. The last one no sex and I refused a sweep. He was 10 days late so I don’t think it really matters what you do.

Forevertired19 · 01/04/2018 13:22

Sex is kinda out the question for me aha.
Curries anyone? Do they help? I did think about just eating tonnes of pineapple.
Ex dp is with me at the moment for the birth and I think I've come down with the flu in all honesty. He pointed out this morning as he had a gut feeling it'd be last night. Nope. He said basically because my body is fighting off this flu thing that it's more focused on that then the baby.. Not sure how true that is but this could go on for a while if it is 😣

I didn't! She was born at 42+1 after induction and forceps.

Forevertired19 · 01/04/2018 13:24

@white 😂 in that case why shouldn't you try the slides?! I'd have thought by 38 weeks ds would have came! I'd have never have thought I'd have been overdue. This is terrifying in a way.
I'd try the slides 😂

Up and down the stairs sideways. I went from 2cm yo baby in 30 minutes🙈

Forevertired19 · 01/04/2018 13:25

Does anyone want to share some positive quick induction stories too? I hear ones from people where their legs have been strung up like a chicken and you're constantly prodded etc, emcs. It terrifies me. But people love to share horror stories. Never good ones.

Nothing will make a baby arrive before it’s ready except proper stuff from the hospital. I had a full induction, it was fine, a few stitches after. Not traumatic at all. And DS was over 10 lbs!

Forevertired19 · 01/04/2018 13:31

10 pounds? See that gives me hope. He's a big boy and I don't think it's just water. I've been told bigger babies slip out no problems though. I just hope if I do have to be induced I'm not in there for days :(

I’ve sent you a PM OP.

stubbornstains · 01/04/2018 13:35

DS1 was 17 (!!) days late. I fought induction for as long as I could, and then when I finally allowed myself to be induced, it took another 2 days. Pessary didn't work, had to go on the drip, it hurt like fuck, an epidural made it all go away.

With DS2 I was induced at term, due to being of crone age, had the pessary and my waters broken, and then went off and walked and walked and walked and WALKED around and around the hospital and its grounds. That made the contractions start- and come on like a bloody express train! No need for the drip this time, but I was on an epidural at 3cm dilated. No goddess of birthing, me.

So, my advice would be, walk- and take ALL the drugs Grin

BalloonSlayer · 01/04/2018 13:36

A friend reckoned that hearing a newborn baby screaming started off her labour.

Forevertired19 · 01/04/2018 13:38

I loved the epidural with dd. I got to 8cm and it was wonderful. I'd like to not go down that route this time but induction does sound more painful. Apparently you don't get a break from contractions?
