To ask how you got your overdue baby out?

Posting mainly for traffic.

It's my second and I'm really unsure if he's back to back with me at the moment. I'm having just waves of pain for the past two days but it's in my lower back and it's agony. But I have been suffering with sciatica this pregnancy 🤔 so it could be that.

Hes 3 days overdue now and I can feel him ready to come just nothings happening and I'm in so much pain. I'm worried about being induced etc as I've not heard many pleasant stories about it.
What did you do to help ease on an overdue baby? He's a big boy and at 39w the midwife said he was measuring 41 Confused my dd came a day overdue and I always thought the second was always early :(

Forceps .... sorry

I tried fresh pineapple at 41 weeks, braxton hicks for a while and then stopped.
Tried again the evening of 41+6 and my waters broke in the early hours of the next morning.
Whether it was the pineapple or it would have happened anyway is anyone's guess.

AIUI, there is scientific fact with pineapple - something to do with chemicals and similarity to hormones. It's pleasant enough and as far as I know no bad side issues.

Just don't go with caster oil as it can give you both the runs and cause the midwife to think gaby must be distressed, thus increasing likelihood of intervention.

Good luck. Flowers

Breastpump worked for me. But, I wouldn't recommend it as I ended up with an extremely long latent phase, and I wonder if that was at least partly due 'forcing' contractions. Good luck!

None of the old wives tales have ever been clinically proven. Most just give you an upset tummy - what irritates the gut, theoretically irritates the uterus.

Sperm contains some of the same chemicals (?!) that are present in the induction drip, so thats theoretically why sex can sometimes help.

Walking helps as gravity helps things move.

Bouncy ball helps as it keeps your pelvis open and helps things move.

My sweep helped - labour started 5hrs after, but they're not successful for everyone.

I think ultimately they come when they come and it sucks! The rest of the stuff is you just keeping yourself entertained so you don't go crazy. (I say this as a crazy lady who spent 8 days googling how to get him to come as I was desperate to avoid an induction Grin)

Good luck!

Sounds to me like you might be in prodromal labour where your body is turning baby into a better position. I had that with my second and it was a good week of painful back and bump then turned into full labour.

Stay active and positive. Get walking and move around as much as possible and I reckon baby will be here fairly soon.

You're not overdue till 42 so don't panic! Trust your body :)

Also: my friend was induced last week with twins and had a lovely birth which didn't seem especially intense so I don't think induced births are necessarily harder work than ones that start naturally.

Good luck!

Tried a laxative, nothing major happened. My waters broke that night with no contractions so went into hospital just to get checked. Turns out I was nearly 5cm with no contractions which suddenly started happening thick and fast. Got the epidural which was amazing except for the fact the laxative kicked in and I shat everywhere because I couldn’t feel anything. I was beyond mortified as the poor midwife cleaned me up Grin

Nipple stimulation worked for me. I actually started to feel contractions and had baby next morning.

jayho · 01/04/2018 16:32

All three were 10 days 'late' - I just think that's my natural gestation.

House hunting with number 1 - lots of stairs -I wasn't planning to move-

Clary sage oil in the bath with number 2

chilled with number 3, he was bang on 10 days 'late'

Shipshapeit · 01/04/2018 16:34

Induction. After trying everything in the book.
Sorry.
If you are getting cramps it’s probably work keeping active as they do say that can help in early labour.
Good luck Smile

Only thing that shifted either of my tardy little bundles was a mixture of castor oil orange juice and bicarb - but I would recommend asking the MW to make sure you take a sensible dose.
