To get use the hot tub?

After an excruciating bikini wax where I seem to have come out hairier than I went in, my period has come on. I’m joining a hen party tomorrow and I’d hoped I had another few days before it reared it’s ugly head.

I mentioned it to my friend earlier (she’s not on the hen), how I was annoyed about missing out on the hot tub and she said she’d still use it with a tampon in.

I don’t go swimming with my period, so just sitting around in a hot tub while having it didn’t cross my mind.

Am I being overly cautious??

Do you ever use tampons? Id go in with a tampon in. Fresh one, then change it immediately after.

privateporcupine · 29/03/2018 22:25

Yes, I often use them. Not usually to bed, but I will this weekend. It’s not heavy just now and a tampon wouldn’t be comfortable just now. Don’t know how it will be tomorrow Confused

Yes, go in with a fresh tampon, then change when you are done. You can swim with them in too.

I am 50 and even at school having a period when I was younger would not have been a valid excuse to not go swimming.

BertieBotts · 29/03/2018 22:28

I would use one with a mooncup or tampon. The jets would probably be soothing. If your flow is too light and you don't have a cup just wear it for the immediate period you're in there.

Floopbloop · 29/03/2018 22:31

I learned to use tampons a few years ago in my early 30s for this very reason! A weekend away with a hot tub coincided with my period. I use them all the time now. Not sure why you wouldn't tbh?

Storminateapot · 29/03/2018 22:33

Should be fine but I would change it afterwards as the water in a hot tub is basically just warm human soup and you don't want that water sitting inside you for long afterwards Shock

loopsdefruit · 29/03/2018 22:35

The first time I ever used a tampon was so I could go in the hot tub at our friend's house for NYE, I've also gone swimming with them in, you'll be fine :)

Lacucuracha · 29/03/2018 22:54

That's archaic. Lots of people use pads, not tampons. We weren't forced to go swimming when on period.

Lacucuracha · 29/03/2018 22:55

OP, there's an app called Clue which is great at tracking your periods and estimating when you're due. I plan around it.

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/03/2018 22:59

Yes of course you can go in a hott tub with a tampon. I would use a fresh one and then change afterwards just to be sure, but I have always gone swimming etc. With tampons and have never had a problem, especially if it is not heavy it will be fine. There's no need to miss out because it's your period and it will probably be good for cramps because it's essentially a giant hot water bottle.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 29/03/2018 23:33

I agree. Similar age. Pretty much everyone used tampons and probably would have been told to use one for swimming lessons. Pads were hateful uncomfortable wodges (wadges?) of cotton wool then and few of us wanted to use them.

Lethaldrizzle · 29/03/2018 23:36

Of course you can go in the hot tub. That's bonkers

mummyrabbitpeppapig · 29/03/2018 23:52

If you use a brand beginning with 't' am sure I saw a TV ad years ago claiming you can ride a bike / swim play tennis and go rollerskating ...... Didn't mention a hot tub though .....😀😁😂🤣😃

BunnyEars1 · 30/03/2018 08:54

Erm... I'm a swimming teacher and work in the water for 25 hours a week. I'm not allowed every fourth week off, I'd get the sack! Do you think Olympic swimmers stop training whilst on?

Dark ages!

Sparklingbrook · 30/03/2018 09:11

I would be thrilled to have an excuse not to get in the hot tub. Grin

They were indeed awful. When I had to use them, I felt like I was walking like John Wayne and everyone could see!

MidniteScribbler · 30/03/2018 11:03

I have used tampons from the first day that I got my period. I live in a beach community with a pool and a spa in my home. At no point in my life have I ever had to think about my period when it came to choosing recreational or any other activities.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 30/03/2018 11:11

I feel your pain OP, I've just realised that I'm due on slap bang in the middle of our week abroad-exactly as I was last year ffs, note to self-must plan better. I'm too heavy on the first 2 days to safely go in the water even with a fresh tampon in & also since I had kids they don't seem to be as effective, as in they leak Sad sometimes being female is just shite.

Notevilstepmother · 30/03/2018 11:23

Just use a tampon and enjoy the hot tub.

girlsyearapart · 30/03/2018 11:26

nofuckingroom I’m exactly the same as you and recently got a prescription of some tablets that delay your period think they are nohisterone

Notevilstepmother · 30/03/2018 11:27

Any one who is having leaks and ridiculously heavy flow should try these, and they are on offer at the moment.

Applicator tampons get longer, these get wider.

Reviews and on offer here too

It's fine to go in the hot tub, OP, enjoy! Sorry to hear about the awful wax. Hope it's a great weekend.

pigeondujour · 30/03/2018 11:40

I assume most swimmers/swimming teachers and similar don't have problematic periods though. For lots of women, myself included, such a career just wouldn't ever have been an option even if you were a talented swimmer. And good luck to anyone telling me I have to use a tampon when I don't want to.

OneStepSideways · 30/03/2018 12:14

Mooncup! More hygienic than tampons, as they form a seal. I'd worry a tampon would suck up the germy hot tub water!
