Urgent need to get to Dublin today

Missed flight. Next cheapest is 380. Can anyone find a way to get me to Dublin by 8pm today? Plane, train, automobile?

OP posts:

If it was THAT urgent and THAT critical and THAT essential, OP wouldn't have missed the first flight.

Just pay the extra.

AnathemaPulsifer · 29/03/2018 13:38

And cancel the cheque!

NeverMetACakeIDidntLike · 29/03/2018 13:41

@FleurDelacoeur Not necessarily! You have no idea what's happening / happened to herConfused

YourWanMajella · 29/03/2018 13:42

Yeah, cos life always works like that Hmm

IAmMatty · 29/03/2018 13:42

Bit harsh to say pay the 380 if it's that urgent, and obviously it's not or you wouldn't have missed the original flight.

It's not too much of a stretch to imagine that the OP could be travelling for difficult, personal reasons, and also that they literally may not have £380 on hand today.

Bit of empathy?

Maryz · 29/03/2018 13:47

I'm not being harsh Hmm, I'm actually being helpful - there are no cheap flights from London to Dublin today, we've all looked.

So my advice is to take a deep breath and be pragmatic; I've been in the op's situation and, having missed the flight, she'll be in a right panic. The very worst thing to do is leave the airport and try to get on a train to some random place to (hopefully) get on a plane/ferry to another random place in the hopes of hiring a car ...

Fair enough if she was in Heathrow and there was a £100 flight from Gatwick at 5, for example. But as things stand she save very little by heading to another airport, she might miss a flight there too, it will certainly cost her to traipse around the country by train; the more urgent and closer the 8 pm deadline is the more of a panic she will end up in.

TatianaLarina · 29/03/2018 13:48

Realistically though she’s not likely to get it for much less than that whichever way she goes if she’s to be there by 8.

TatianaLarina · 29/03/2018 13:49

Xpost, that was to Matty ^^

NowApparently · 29/03/2018 13:50

Whatever it is, it's clearly very urgent. I hope you make it, OP.

IAmMatty · 29/03/2018 13:53

My comment was to Fleur, not you Mary.

It was Fleur' post that was a bit sneery for my taste.

Still doesn't change the fact that the OP may not have £380 though unfortunately., but your post was helpful.

EveningHare · 29/03/2018 13:53

good luck OP - let us know you got there!!

Maryz · 29/03/2018 13:55

Sorry Matty, missed that Smile

I suspect she may well not; maybe she can put it on someone's credit card and I hope she manages to get there ok though.

IAmMatty · 29/03/2018 13:56

Hope so! I know if I needed to find £400 while stood in an airport I'd panic.

abitunhinged · 29/03/2018 13:58

If you get a cheap flight to Belfast you can get the bus every hour to Dublin from glengall street for €8.00

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 29/03/2018 14:30

This is what credit cards are for. I am not being facetious. Sometimes you need to be able to act in an emergency and sort out the financial stuff later.
When DH's sibling died (expected they were very ill) we found out in the early hours of the morning and DH was on the 9am flight to his home country. We had a month breathing space to work out what to do about the credit card bill.

Sgtmajormummy · 29/03/2018 14:34

Ask along the Dublin checkin lines if anyone has booked but isn’t using one of their flights.
It’s happened to me several times when a group member pulled out. For £25 (Ryanair in my case) they can change it to your details up to 1 hour before. You’d also pay the original flight price.
Why not throw yourself on the mercy of the ground staff and see if they can do that for you?

bibliomania · 29/03/2018 14:39

Was it Ryanair? They'll put you on the next flight for £100 if there are spare seats.

lovemylover · 29/03/2018 14:40

Does anyone know what can be taken onto a plane ,in grams please

lovemylover · 29/03/2018 14:41

Very sorry, for above post, supposed to be the start of a new thread

BitOutOfPractice · 29/03/2018 14:42

Depends on the airline...

beboldbebluntbehonest · 29/03/2018 14:43

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude
Not everyone has a credit card though. I don't & neither do my parents. We save & pay for things. If we don't have the money then that's it.

heateallthebuns · 29/03/2018 14:44

Good luck op! Are you on the way again now?

purplecorkheart · 29/03/2018 14:44

Maybe see what the flights are to Cork and get aircoach to Dublin (3 hrs)

MadMags · 29/03/2018 14:45

I think Ryanair will put you on the next flight for a fee!

YourWanMajella · 29/03/2018 14:48

They occasionally do it as a goodwill gesture but generally don't and have no obligation to do so. They are a point to point budget airline, if you miss yoru flight they have no liability to assist you.
