To spend all day on the sofa with my baby?

DS 9 weeks old. Since he was born we both have had a pretty crap time. My recovery has been rubbish and he was life threatening poorly for the first two weeks . Older DC goes to nursery 4x a week and DH does the pick ups/drop offs so during this time for the past few weeks I have been making the most of literally sitting on the sofa with DS and pretty much just hugging him all day with films on. A lot of the time staying in leggings and just relaxing.

He’s very chilled and it’s been bliss. The offer days I have the older DC so we do get fresh air and lots of play etc but I’m starting to feel guilty. With my first, I was constantly playing with her and going to baby classes and walks etc but this time I’m loving our current set up. I don’t think I’ve felt this relaxed in about 6 years!

So WIBU to keep doing sweet nothing for as long as he’ll let me or do you think this is bad for him?

Well I’ve just spent the day on the sofa with my dog because I’ve got my period and feel like shite soooo....... I say go for it Grin

Seriously though, you’ve got a newborn, sit as much as you can!!

WizardLizard · 28/03/2018 16:38

Keep doing it. My DS Is 9mo now and very rarely wants to snuggle in. The thought of being able to binge Netflix and have tiny squishy cuddles all day sounds perfect. Enjoy!

StylishDuck · 28/03/2018 16:38

Of course not. Enjoy it while it lasts because they don't stay that tiny for long. Congratulations Thanks

Inseoir · 28/03/2018 16:38

How on earth could it be bad for him?? That's a genuine question btw!!

WannabeSurfer · 28/03/2018 16:39

Enjoy it while you can!

blackteasplease · 28/03/2018 16:39

Sounds like what you should be doing!

Dumbotheelephant · 28/03/2018 16:39

YANBU enjoy your time on the sofa with your little one, it's the best feeling when they are so small.
It will help your recovery and there's plenty of time for baby classes when you need a breather from being in the house, but until then enjoy!

Lazinganddazing · 28/03/2018 16:46

I’m so relieved!! I was worried I might be turning us into lazy folk or not engaging his brain enough or something.

Thank you, although ive started watching a lot of trashy telly it’s probably melting my brain somehow haha!

I did this for at least 3 months (had school runs, but otherwise we camped on the sofa.

Mine was life threateningly ill for the first couple of weeks too, I couldn't hold him when he was really ill, so once he was better I sat down and he slept on me. For about 10 weeks :)

Cheekylittlenumber · 28/03/2018 17:02

I miss the days of DD1 being at preschool while DD2 napped on me while I drank tea and re-watched Peepshow! She's now 6 months and naps are such a battle, I miss the sleepy newborn days (and her night sleep is worse now than it was in the early weeks!!)Sad

afrikat · 28/03/2018 17:07

God no make the most of it. I watched all 7 seasons of the Gilmore Girls on mat leave with my second. Hours and hours a day of just letting her nap on me. It was heaven

Embarrassed89 · 28/03/2018 17:09

Sounds good to me
Congrats btw Flowers

Kintan · 28/03/2018 17:11

Sounds amazing - enjoy these precious snuggly days :)

rach01pink · 28/03/2018 17:18

Try to relax and enjoy it. Parents always feel guilty about something but just think how much bonding you are doing. Its lovely. Mine are 5 months and apart from school runs and housework I have lots of sofa time with them.. Know what you mean about trash tv too.... How am I now watching loose women, Jeremy Kyle and judge rinder on a daily basis???!?!?!?!

GinIsIn · 28/03/2018 17:23

I made it through14 series of ER, 4 of Sleepy Hollow, 13 of Greys Anatomy and the whole of Spooks. Go for it! Grin

IWantMyHatBack · 28/03/2018 17:25

I also watched all of ER.
Then Buffy, Gilmore Girls (again), Dexter, and Sons of Anarchy

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/03/2018 17:26

Sounds idylic!
I watched all 5 series of Fringe with dc2.
Baby cuddles are bliss.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 28/03/2018 17:28

Enjoy it while it lasts, I feel blissful just thinking about those days. I watched the whole of ER too Smile

flowersWB · 28/03/2018 17:29

Do it and love it! I did this with DD2 but the window was tiny. She's 18 weeks now and stopped being chilled about a month ago so gone is my sofa time. I have to entertain her now. Obviously this stage is nice too (lies) but I'm mourning our lazy days.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 28/03/2018 17:32

Congrats! Enjoy every second on the sofa

Janleverton · 28/03/2018 17:36

I became obsessed by The Deadliest Catch when dc3 was tiny. It was always on and I now know way mor about the Alaskan crab fishing industry than I ever really needed to.

JaneEyre70 · 28/03/2018 17:41

My youngest granddaughter had reflux and was a very miserable baby unless being held upright against your chest. So DD took up residence on the sofa for around 5 months, and it got them both through it. Towards the end though she was getting very restless and thought she'd never watch tv again Grin.

KatnissMellark · 28/03/2018 17:42

Totally fine. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise!

0lgaDaPolga · 28/03/2018 17:44

Oh don’t feel guilty at all, enjoy it while you can. I felt the pressure to get out and go to groups. Baby got nothing out of it. It stressed me out too. Wish I’d just stayed in cuddling him on the sofa now. You’ve had a horrible time, be kind to yourself. There’s plenty of time for groups and activities when the baby is older

AnnieAnoniMouser · 28/03/2018 17:48

So, you have a 9 week old baby and you feel relaxed.

It’s virtually unheard of, don’t change a single thing! Just enjoy it while it lasts 💐🍫☕️
