Two things I can think of immediately.

  1. Moved to London on my own
  2. Flew to Spain to meet my Dad who I hadn't seen since I was five. I'd never been on a plane before either. Looking back at 17yr old me, I feel very proud of her courage.

AverageSnowflake · 27/03/2018 21:31

Joined the US Army, threw a grenade, moved alone to the U.K., gave birth, just to name a few.

TrickyLicky · 27/03/2018 21:32

I climbed Kilimanjaro. Fabulous experience but was petrified beforehand

shouldnthavesaid · 27/03/2018 21:33

Told someone I was suicidal, on NHS 24. My GP phoned me within 10 minutes of me hanging up the phone, somehow she was able to do so straight away - I still credit her with stopping me, as she made me laugh out loud in shock (said something along the lines of I didn't need to worry about suicide, as I'd given her such a bloody fright she was going to murder me anyway). Very, very long time to feel 'better' but I am so grateful I could talk to her , and over time, tell her much more beyond that.

I was made redundant from a job I hated and got a decent payout, my relationship had fallen apart and I felt rather low and wanted to escape.
Instead of banking the money and put it towards a flat deposit I paid for a coast to coast to trip across the USA, part with a tour group and part with just me. I set off completely by myself without knowing anyone, travelled alone and made wonderful friends up and down the country. It was the trip of a lifetime, I went everywhere from west to east and dipped into the south.

Some people said i should’ve saved the cash and done something sensible - but how often do you get an opportunity like that? I dont regret it at all, it was a very important part of my life, and I feel brave that I was able to drop everything and just go all by myself Smile

Calvinlookingforhobbs · 27/03/2018 21:37

Left my very unhappy marriage.

tea43 · 27/03/2018 21:41

ZoSanDesu · 27/03/2018 21:41

Moved to japan age 22.
Moved home from a successful career in japan aged 28 to be back with family: no friends or job or prospects. Both decisions were right

PunkrockerGirl59 · 27/03/2018 21:44

Started my nurse training when ny dc were 5 & 3 and my dh at the same time was having treatment for cancer.

notsomumsymum · 27/03/2018 21:44

Chased burglars out of my home.

gussyfinknottle · 27/03/2018 21:44

I'd say lived in Siberia or worked in Moscow during a coup and martial law. Actually , the bravest thing I've ever done was giving birth in a shit hole of a Uk hospital that got slated in the Keogh report.

SnowiestMountain · 27/03/2018 21:47

Moved to Florida age 23 with a suitcase and £500!

MarkBorrigan · 27/03/2018 21:48

Oh my word, you're all amazingly brave.
Mine's pretty tame, but it took a lot of courage at the time, moving away to go to uni. Second decision ever. The first being to marry my incredible DH.

steff13 · 27/03/2018 21:48

Gave my mom "permission" to die when she was suffering from terminal cancer. She was hanging on and the Hospice nurse said it might make it easier for her to let go. She died a couple days later. I was 24.

I broke my back. Not badly just a 50%+ wedge of L1 no cord involvement etc. But I gritted through it after five days, increased my mobility, kept going with pilates. On day 7 I was driving dd to school again. On day 4 I felt so low and miserable I could have given up. A poster called Matildathecat was a huge support.

holycityzoo · 27/03/2018 21:54

Leaving my abusive ex when my daughter was 8 months old with a small bag and not much else. I was 28 and it was the hardest but best thing I've ever done.
12 Years later and I'm now with a new partner and he took on my daughter and we went on to have 3 more children and have been together 10 years.
I haven't seen the arse hole ex for many years and I have a very good and comfortable life.

Mustang27 · 27/03/2018 21:54

Jesus @faireemuff I take it that doesn't have a happy ending? I can not imagine how traumatic that was for all involved. I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

Walkthroughthefire · 27/03/2018 21:54

Got pregnant again after my daughter was still born

waterlego6064 · 27/03/2018 21:56

I spoke at my dad’s funeral and there were quite a lot of people there. But I did a good job of it 🙂
