...Dreamed of...

TheLadyhasarrived · 29/03/2018 13:37

I find that I’m now turning my nose up at anything I’ve seen advertised by instamums. Especially if it’s advertised simultaneously by a lot of people, like the m&s food the other night. That annoys me, why don’t they at least stagger it out a bit or vary it slightly, the wording is always the same from each. It’s boring and really switches me off.

Badmotherpukka · 29/03/2018 13:38

@fruitbowl2 I think it was a pretty specific brief to be fair to her. The mag decides what goes in ultimately. Alison is a great writer and has since penned a number of articles focused on Flex Appeal. Yours, The Primark Beckhams.

Stellastartsitall · 29/03/2018 13:38

Oh everyone is cooking with knorr tonightGrin

Fruitbowl2 · 29/03/2018 13:43

MP 😂

Fruitbowl2 · 29/03/2018 13:46

That's a really good point Lady. The cereal or example was such overkill (and a empty bowl debacle) Do you brands not realise people look at the same accounts, or do they do it deliberately to drum it in? The white ankle boot seems to be the next victim...

IsThisAWindUp · 29/03/2018 13:46

I think Alison is a very good writer and I believe her podcasts are a good listen, from what I have seen other people say (I don't do podcasts). She comes across as less comfortable with Instamum stuff she does. I think its a shame that very good print journalists are feeling they are unable to make a living from what they used to do. I think you have alluded to this before @badmotherpukka, it must be tough to try to find your new niche when writing is your USP, but the old forms of media don't pay their way any more.

blackmirror1 · 29/03/2018 13:48

There have been a lot of comments about people needing PR/marketing help on this thread.

Is that what people want - people media trained to become drones? If someone's not very nice I'd rather see it than have it erased to the point someone turns into something thsyre not.

However if someone is struggling to convert themselves as they genuinely are, then help is of course necessary (if you're a business/brand)

Also worth remembering, brands change. Someone can't stay the same forever and it's not right we expect someone to. If someone moves away from their career pre Instagram to doing something new that's up to them but audience will of course change too

I don't want to see them media trained. I would just like to see some of them taking their regulatory frameworks more seriously and perhaps they need more support in that area?

Mumofkids · 29/03/2018 13:52

If someone did actually feed their kid a fishfinger from the freezer and put it out there, then they should not be upset if it's looked on badly.
There are many funny things about children and parenting, but shit parenting should not be defended or celebrated.
It's noticeable that since this thread there's been less visible children. Probably just waiting for it to die down. There's way too many likes and views to be had with the cute ones.

3asAbird · 29/03/2018 13:56

It seems well follow different people pn insta

For me theres regional fashion bloggers who are fab and seldom show their kids.
London fashion bloggers who sometimes show their kids.

London insta mums guess we all know a few of them as they seem to be the biggest most affluent clique.

Regional Insta mums mostly see to have you tube background.
Its thw you tube kids who get exploited tje most.
Mrs m and mr m were doing daily vlogging now they do 3 on mrs m channel and 3 on the meldrums.
In addition to this she does insta with daily insta posts and stories
She also has fb and does fb live.
She has Pinterest possibly twitter and and chat.
Thats a lot of social media .

Im not sure if bloggings lost its charm as a busy mum of 3 i dont read many blogs but i follow their insta instead.
I also find you tube videos quite quickly assesible.
Manu of them have perfect looking homes whilst doing primark , poundland and home bargains hauls which makes other muns think they relatable and achievable as they shop in same cheap shops we have access to.
Channel mum vloggers/insta mum's are the ones who are very good and claiming just to be a regular mum but their disclosure is very poor half the time.

My nana always said always someone worse off than you.

I accept at nct group or in tbe playground theres a fair mix of mums.
But to some extent we can choose ti avpid the ones in real life if they do our head in too much.

On instagram its mostly perfect mums kids and families all the time.
When you feeling tired or down this can have a negative effect on parents mental health.

Its half term here we not done much.
Then i see all these fab family holidays and free days out and feel a bit rubbish.

Its totally different to me watching real housewives of cheshire as i knkw i can never jave their lifestyle and muxh if it is scripted and staged.

Its the lack of what's real on insta.
I think its safe to assume even if not declared 80% is gifted.

In business theres the term speculate to accumulate and many insta mums and fashion bloggers have the wealth to start out as they need to create an aspirational lifestyle/profile/ house to attract the brands in the first place.

I think on insta we have to ask ourselves is this mums life aspirational as i 1 day we can have a similar life or is it totally unachievable and out of reach.
For me many of them are the latter so i try pay less attention to the London/ south east girl gang.

NotASingleDamnBiroInTheHouse · 29/03/2018 13:58

Is that what people want - people media trained to become drones?

I don’t take it to mean that. I think people are talking about more expert advisors to help make more thoughtful decisions about which brands to work with, instead of taking a ‘say yes to everything and make hay while the sun shines’ approach.

Marketing help to understand advertising rules and maybe a little help responding to complaints, like a company does.

Mumofkids · 29/03/2018 14:08

They should be regulated if they use it to make money but I would have very little to say if their constant use of kids was monitored and regulated, the kids were aware if old enough and money put into their own accounts for what they earned.

Growingboys · 29/03/2018 14:10

They will have set themselves up as companies, given their incomes, management teams etc, so I think it's only fair they adhere to regulatory frameworks re tagging of posts. If they can manage the former, they can manage the latter.

Saying it's not fair that they are called to account because they show themelves and their lives to us is a total red herring.

Most of them manage the above - it's only the minority who fail to be transparent and treat their followers with derision, blocking/deleting comments etc, which is why they are mentioned by name on MN every now and then. I think that's fair enough.

Stellastartsitall · 29/03/2018 14:13

Just checking out dlam. She has 100k followers yet her pics have less than a thousand likes. That's barely 1% engagement. I can't understand what the brands are getting from this.

faceandpalm · 29/03/2018 14:15

@blackmirror1 Not media drones, no - just accountable and professional. Some have reached a point where their Instagram accounts have become businesses in a very real sense. Gas and Air is a limited company, for example, but that’s probably for accounting purposes. When you have a vaste audience and advertising income, you need to ensure you engage positively and transparently.

Lolly12 · 29/03/2018 14:24

Does anyone follow @deliciouslystella? Find her hilarious.

shesakeeper · 29/03/2018 14:26

Had a look at DLAM. Saw those pretty, pretty shoes. Got sucked in. Saw price. Over £150!! Ran away feeling like a dick for allowing myself to covet something so unaffordable.

BlueSapp · 29/03/2018 14:39

who is DLAM?

Growingboys · 29/03/2018 14:41
