To think it's not that unusual to not know how you fell?

I fell and hit the side of my head pretty hard earlier. I'm not quite sure what happened but I was kneeling and my tights probably slipped on the laminate. I didn't fall far and am fairpy certain I didn't lose consciousness. If I did, it was only for seconds.

However my husband is stressing and thinks that I need to go to hospital. He is concerned I had some sort of seizure/black out (I have epilepsy) because I can't remember how I fell and that I don't know for certain I wasn't knocked out.

I don't think it's particularly unusual to not know how you fell though? I don't feel like I'm missing any memories before or after. I just don't know how I went from kneeling to lying. My 6 year old was with me and she didn't say anything about me "going to sleep". My husband was within ear shot.

I've had a headache since but I hit my head hard and broke my glasses (my only pair) so hardly surprising. I could have happily gone to sleep straight afterwards (I didn't) and am still really tired but I'm "with it". No lumps, bruising or leaks.

I also hit my head pretty hard either yesterday or the day before too. Different spot. But that was because I lost my balance standing up. No sinister reason, just one of those things. After the initial pain, I was fine.

I've always been clumsy. Bashing myself and random bruises isn't unusual.

I am sorry that was so long and rambling.

I agree with your DH that you should get checked out in hospital.

I’ve never fallen and “not really known how.” Confused

BTatemyhamster · 26/03/2018 22:26

Hmmm, could have been a seizure, which come in many forms, as I am sure you know. Are on on men's and usually seizure free?

Dancinggoat · 26/03/2018 22:27

The only reason to not know what happened to make you fall is if you knocked yourself out or for a medical reason
Listen to your husband.

BTatemyhamster · 26/03/2018 22:28

'Meds' not men's.

Do you have a neurologist or an epilepsy nurse you could refer to?

What sort of seizures do you usually have?

BlueIsTheNewBlue · 26/03/2018 22:28

Hi I think that your husband is probably right and you could do with getting checked over. For you to have broken your glasses from falling from being on your knees you must have gone down pretty hard/fast, and with the fact that you can't remember actually falling too.
Maybe try ringing 111 if your in the UK and see what they suggest.

anon99827 · 26/03/2018 22:28

To be safe I really would get checked out. That's twice you've banged your head and once hard enough to break your glasses. Better to be safe than sorry. Xx

Tiggy78 · 26/03/2018 22:29

I agree with your DH too. You need to get yourself checked out.

FlibbertyGiblets · 26/03/2018 22:30

I've fallen over a few times and known exactly what caused each tumble.

Your husband is right to be concerned if only because you have sustained x2 head injuries in the last 3 days.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/03/2018 22:31

I've always known. Get checked out.

Puffycat · 26/03/2018 22:31

I’m with Puppy on this. Chances are all is fine but it’s worth seeing someone as you could have had a fit and maybe your medication needs a review? People die from epilepsy, I worry that you seem to be putting a disturbing incident down to being clumsy.
Don’t ignore your condition

twinone · 26/03/2018 22:33

I would say it's pretty unusual for a healthy adult to fall twice in 2 days and not know why.
I do think you need checking out.

Puffycat · 26/03/2018 22:33

@MrsTerryPratchett big salute to a total genius! Good user name!

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/03/2018 22:35

Thanks @Puffycat Smile

S0upertrooper · 26/03/2018 22:36

Humour your DH and get it checked out, could be something simple like low blood pressure. Any chance you could be pregnant?

BTatemyhamster · 26/03/2018 22:38

I agree with others. Get it checked. Might just need a meds adjustment. Good luck.

wingingit123 · 26/03/2018 22:40

Definitely get checked out, I'm not sure if this is an old wife's tale so please don't flame me everyone if it is, but I've been told no lumps, bumps etc.. is actually a bad sign? As in a bump is reassuring because there is swelling external

Glumglowworm · 26/03/2018 22:40

I think you should get checked out. A healthy adult to fall and hit their head twice in quick succession for no aparant reason is not quite normal. It probably is just clumsiness/random but definitely worth investigating if anything else is going on causing it.

85PercentGolden · 26/03/2018 22:41

I slipped and fell and broke my leg recently. It all happened so fast I don't know exactly what happened. I have come to the conclusion the soles on my boots weren't grumpy enough and I lost my balance on a slight incline where there was ice. You should get yourself checked out, especially if you hit your head. You can't be too careful. Has it happened before?

TenancyTroublesAgain · 26/03/2018 22:41

I've always known.

SpacePenguin · 26/03/2018 22:46

Def get checked out. I have a neighbour who couldn't explain how they fell, and it was (much) later found that they'd had a TIA (a minor stroke event). They are now on medication, but it was a long time before they got the right treatment.

Casmama · 26/03/2018 22:47

If you don’t remember the sensation of falling, you don’t know how you fell, you don’t know whether it was yesterday or the day before when you fell previously and you fell from standing and hit your head without apparently breaking your fall and you have a headache?
I think you need to get it checked out. Clumsiness is one thing but your lack of clarity over these incidents would raise my concern

BTatemyhamster · 26/03/2018 22:47

You don't always know you've had a seizure; plus the fact you feel v tired suggests it could be a seizure to me (non medic but parent of children with epilepsy).

Afreshcuppateaplease · 26/03/2018 22:50

I do sometimes do things, fall or hurt myself in another way and have no idea what happened but i think you should get checked out

TotHappy · 26/03/2018 22:51

@85PercentGolden, love the idea that if your soles are grumpy enough, you won't fall!
There's nothing like the grump for seeing off ice Smile
