To think it's not that unusual to not know how you fell?

I fell and hit the side of my head pretty hard earlier. I'm not quite sure what happened but I was kneeling and my tights probably slipped on the laminate. I didn't fall far and am fairpy certain I didn't lose consciousness. If I did, it was only for seconds.

However my husband is stressing and thinks that I need to go to hospital. He is concerned I had some sort of seizure/black out (I have epilepsy) because I can't remember how I fell and that I don't know for certain I wasn't knocked out.

I don't think it's particularly unusual to not know how you fell though? I don't feel like I'm missing any memories before or after. I just don't know how I went from kneeling to lying. My 6 year old was with me and she didn't say anything about me "going to sleep". My husband was within ear shot.

I've had a headache since but I hit my head hard and broke my glasses (my only pair) so hardly surprising. I could have happily gone to sleep straight afterwards (I didn't) and am still really tired but I'm "with it". No lumps, bruising or leaks.

I also hit my head pretty hard either yesterday or the day before too. Different spot. But that was because I lost my balance standing up. No sinister reason, just one of those things. After the initial pain, I was fine.

I've always been clumsy. Bashing myself and random bruises isn't unusual.

@Tothappy That was supposed to be grippy not grumpy. Auto correct got me. Grin

Snorkpod · 26/03/2018 22:56

OK. Thank you.

I'm on lamatrogine but I'm not completely controlled. I normally have partials but have had a few complex. The complex ones normally come in groups.

Not pregnant.

111 will just tell me to go to A&E. I'll give my epilepsy nurse a call tomorrow morning.

Thank you.

Please listen to your husband, and get yourself checked out.

JaneEyre70 · 26/03/2018 22:57

You've hit your head twice. Get checked over.

I knocked myself out in the back garden, cleaning the kids water slide. No idea how long I was out for, tremendous headache but didn't seek help until the next morning when my brain felt like it was trying to escape from my skull.... I had the worst headache ever and the Dr went mad at me in A & E. Took me over 2 years to fully recover.

Don't underestimate a bang to the head. Ever. Do what your DH says. Even if its for peace of mind.

Ceebs85 · 26/03/2018 23:00

Dizzy so bad you fell yesterday and an unexplained fall today. You definitely need a check up. Glad to see you'll be contacting your nurse.

Snorkpod · 26/03/2018 23:02

Yeah, to be fair, the fact I didn't stop my fall and just landed on my head isn't a good sign really. I didn't think about that.

Jane. I hope you are OK now. X

You do need to get checked, and I think you do know that, as annoying as it is. You shouldn't wait until tomorrow, either, and I think that you know that, too. You shouldn't go to sleep tonight without being checked over first, then you'll be advised that your DH should be checking on you throughout the night, at the very least, I should think, if they don't want to do any more thorough checks. You need a full set of neurological observations by a face to face clinician tonight. Get to A&E Flowers

MyKingdomForBrie · 26/03/2018 23:03

I don’t think I’ve ever not known how I’ve fallen OP, sorry.

Graphista · 26/03/2018 23:05

You're more at risk of stroke with the epilepsy and the meds can affect balance. You do need to see someone. It's not normal not to recall how you fell and as pp said 2 head injuries in a few days needs checked out anyway you could have a concussion as a result.

Personally (ex nurse) I'd want you seen ASAP.

Gottokondo · 26/03/2018 23:06

I fell down the stairs and broke my wrist last year. Didn't bang my head or anything. I have no idea i I slipped or missed a step or whatever. So it does happen.

I still think you need to check it out though.

Travelledtheworld · 26/03/2018 23:07

Definitely get checked out. A normally healthy person would not just fall, twice in two days.

JaneEyre70 · 26/03/2018 23:08

Yes Snorkpod all fine now, unless I get really tired then my brain turns to scrambled egg! Was lucky to have an amazing head injury clinic at local hospital, and had great support from physio. Was a very long slow recovery from such a stupid silly accident. And waterslides are banned from our garden Grin

eurochick · 26/03/2018 23:12

I think you should get checked out. I'm pretty clumsy too but usually have some idea how I hurt myself.

Snorkpod · 26/03/2018 23:16

Goddamit. Husband just pointed out I fell down the stairs last week as well.

OK I will ring 111.

Thank you everyone.

I think most people would feel and remember the sensation of falling and landing on the floor, even if they are not quite sure initially how they lost their balance.
I think it would be wise to be checked out. I hope you feel better soon.

ChasedByBees · 26/03/2018 23:29

Hope it’s ok OP but you’re doing the right thing.

drinkyourmilk · 26/03/2018 23:36

I think you are smart to take advice.
Fwiw I am forever covered in bumps and bruises I can't explain. I am also incredibly clumsy- my spacial awareness is dreadful.

marymoosmum · 26/03/2018 23:45

Please go to the hospital an offer checked out you could have a mild concussion which can be made worse by being on electrical devices. My DH (boyfriend at the time) hit his head once hard enough to knock himself to the floor and my DM just laughed it off and said he was fine, let him sit at the computer all night until I got back from work and then we spent the night at A&E as he started to feel dizzy and sick at 12am, turned out he had mild concussion and shouldn't have been on the computer as it made it worse and he should have been taken to hospital before then. Please get checked for your families sake.

MrsEricBana · 26/03/2018 23:52

Yes def to ringing 111. Hope all ok.

Graphista · 27/03/2018 12:49

Hope you're ok you seen someone?

OurMiracle1106 · 27/03/2018 13:00

Sounds possible you had an absence- I am also epileptic and do have absences. Although they can last as little as 10-20 seconds they can cause injuries. I also have tonic clinic (full) seizures.

Always worth speaking to someone.

Snorkpod · 27/03/2018 14:05

Sorry, I should have updated.
I rang 111 who just said to go to my GP as I wasn't showing anything worrying. I've left a message with my epilepsy nurse.
My headache has gone and I'm feeling much better today.
I fell again today although this was a genuine slip - wet floor and slippers, that's all. No need to worry. Husband got all panicy, until he slipped on the same spot while I was getting a towel to wipe it up!
Thank you all for your concern.

Most health adults do not fall. They might trip over things or slip, but they will usually be able to break the fall before they hit the ground (slipping on ice/seaweed/oil is an exception because both feet are pulled from under you).

Finding yourself on the floor with a head injury, with no effort to break the fall and no recollection of falling, is worrying and definitely not normal.

Graphista · 27/03/2018 14:37

Have you gone to gp?
